My Mini Guide to Agios Georgios Beach Corfu, Greece (Updated 2025)

Last Updated on February 19, 2025 by Oliver

For this summer, I think Corfu is one of the best destinations in Europe. It’s just as stunning as other Greek islands like Mykonos or Santorini, but way more affordable. And when I say affordable, I mean compared to those islands—it’s still Greece, after all. What I love about Corfu is that it’s a great all-rounder. Whether you’re after adults-only resorts, small boutique hotels in quiet beach towns, or full-on all-inclusive resorts, Corfu has it all.

One of our favorite little towns in Corfu is Agios Georgios Beach. It’s up on the northern part of the island and is perfect for both couples and families. The sandy beach is gorgeous, there are plenty of boutique hotels and guesthouses, and the village has loads of cute restaurants and beach bars.

We recently spent some time in Corfu and made it our mission to explore as much of the island as possible—Agios Georgios Beach Corfu was, of course, part of that. It’s a small town, so rather than writing a bunch of separate articles about it, I’ve put together this mini guide with everything you need to know: where to stay, how to get there, what to do, and more.

Why Agios Georgios Beach Corfu?

Well, like I already said, I think Agios Georgios Beach is one of the best beach towns in Corfu for a few solid reasons. For starters, it’s far enough from Corfu Town that you don’t have to deal with the cruise ship crowds—since that’s where they all arrive. I’m not saying Agios Georgios Beach doesn’t get busy or touristy, but even in August, it never felt completely overrun.

Another big perk is the beach itself. Unlike a lot of Corfu’s smaller coves and bays, this is a long, wide stretch of sand with plenty of space. There are some sunbeds for rent, but you can also just throw down your towel on the fine sand without having to pay ridiculous prices. The shallow waters make it great for water sports or just relaxing in the sea—perfect if you’re traveling with kids.

But honestly, my personal highlight is that Agios Georgios Beach is right next to Porto Timoni, hands down the most beautiful beach in Corfu. You can either walk there first thing in the morning to beat the crowds or hop on a water taxi—both options are totally worth it.

Where to Stay in Agios Georgios Beach

Zeus Throne Suites

If you’re looking for something unique, Zeus Throne Suites is a great pick. It’s a small apartment located right on top of one of the cliffs overlooking the beach, so the views are incredible. The highlight is a private terrace with a hot tub, perfect for soaking in the scenery. It’s a bit up the hill, so I’d definitely recommend having a car if you stay here.

Things to do in Agios Georgios Beach

Agios Georgios Beach might be a small town, but there’s actually a surprising amount to do—especially if you love the water. From scuba diving and snorkeling to boat trips, there are so many fun options. It’s also a great base to explore the island and take some day trips too.

Try Out Some Watersports

If you’re into watersports, Agios Georgios Beach is a great spot to try a few. We went jet skiing one afternoon, and flying across that calm, turquoise water with the cliffs in the background was just so cool and fun. If that’s not your thing, you can try windsurfing (if the wind plays along), go scuba diving to check out the underwater world, or keep it chill with a pedal boat rental (kids usually love them).

Rent a Boat with Sun Fun Club

This was hands down one of the best things we did. Sun Fun Club rents out speedboats (up to 30hp), and since you don’t need a license, it’s a super easy way to explore. They give you a quick rundown on how to drive it, and then you’re free to go. We packed some drinks, cruised along the coast, and made our way over to Porto Timoni Beach, stopping at a few hidden coves along the way.

Oliver Hiking Down to Porto Timoni Beach

Hike or Take a Water Taxi to Porto Timoni Beach

Porto Timoni Beach is an absolute must. You can hike there—it’s a bit of a climb, but the views on the way down are unreal. We did the hike early in the morning to beat the heat (and the crowds), and by the time we got there, we had the whole place to ourselves. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can always take a quick water taxi from Agios Georgios Beach.

Take a Day Trip to Angelokastro

If you want a break from the beach, Angelokastro is worth the effort. This old Byzantine castle sits on a hill with ridiculous views over Corfu. The walk up is steep (bring water!), but once you reach the top, you’ll see why it’s one of the island’s best viewpoints. We didn’t expect much before going, but standing up there with the whole coastline from the northern to the southern parts, stretched out in front of us was definitely a highlight.

Go Snorkeling in the Coves

At either end of Agios Georgios Beach, there are some little rocky coves that are perfect for snorkeling. The water is super clear, and we spotted loads of fish—and even an octopus hiding under a rock! If you bring your own snorkel gear, you can just hop in whenever you want, but there are also places to rent gear if you need it.

Watch the Sunset from a Beach Bar

After a full day of exploring, nothing beats ending it with a drink by the water. We grabbed a table at one of the beach bars, ordered some cold Mythos beers, and just sat there watching the sun dip behind the cliffs. Our go-to spot for sundowners is ‘San George Food Bar,’ a cool little beach bar.

How to get to Agios Georgios Beach

First things first—there’s a bit of a name confusion you need to know about. There are actually two places called Agios Georgios Corfu. One is a small inland town (which is not where you want to go), and the other is Agios Georgios Beach, also called Agios Georgios Pagon—that’s the little beach town we’re talking about. So whenever you see Agios Georgios Pagon on signs or maps, that’s the one you want.

Now, let’s talk about how to get there.

Renting a Car – The Best Option

If you ask me, the best way to get to Agios Georgios Beach (and honestly, to explore Corfu in general) is by renting a car. You’ll most likely be arriving in Corfu Town, either by plane or ferry, and that’s where you’ll find plenty of rental options. The drive to Agios Georgios Beach takes about 45 minutes and is pretty easy—just a few winding roads as you get closer to the beach.

Having a car also means you’re not stuck in one place. While Agios Georgios is amazing, Corfu has so many hidden beaches and cool little villages to check out, and it’s way more fun when you can just hop in a car and go.

Taking a Taxi

If you’re not renting a car, your next best option is a taxi. A ride from Corfu Town to Agios Georgios Beach costs about $60 USD (€55), so it’s not the cheapest option, but it’s quick and convenient. Just keep in mind that taxis in Corfu often don’t run on meters—they have fixed rates—so always confirm the price before getting in.

Booking a Private Shuttle

If you prefer something a little more organized, you can book a private shuttle in advance. These usually cost around $50 USD (€45), and they’ll pick you up directly from the airport or ferry port and drop you off at your accommodation. It’s a solid option if you want a hassle-free ride without worrying about finding a taxi.

Best Bars & Restaurants in Agios Georgios Beach

For a small beach town, Agios Georgios Beach has some solid food spots. Whether you’re after a proper breakfast, a traditional Greek meal, or just a good place for sunset drinks, here are a few of our favorites.

San George Food Bar – The Best All-Rounder

If there’s one place we kept coming back to, it was San George Food Bar. It’s the best all-round spot in town—good for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even cocktails. In the mornings, we’d come here for eggs benedict and proper coffee (sometimes you just need a break from Greek breakfasts). It’s also right on the beach with sunbeds, really good cocktails and all the amenities you need, so some mornings turned into full beach days.

The Night Owl – Traditional Greek Food

If you want classic Greek food in a nice setting, The Night Owl is a great pick. It’s located just outside of town, so it’s a bit more peaceful, and the views are really nice. The food is exactly what you’d want from a Greek taverna—grilled meats, seafood, moussaka, and big fresh salads. Definitely worth the short drive or taxi ride.

Pergola – Another Solid Greek Spot

Another great option for traditional Greek food is Pergola. Like The Night Owl, it’s a little outside the main area, but the atmosphere is great, and the food is solid. It’s family-run, super welcoming, and serves up all the classics.

Cool Water – Best for Coffee & Light Lunches

For morning coffees or a light lunch by the beach, Cool Water is a great little spot. They do proper espressos (which can be surprisingly hard to find) and have some great Mediterranean-style lunches like salads and light pasta dishes.

FAQs About Agios Georgios Beach Corfu

Is Agios Georgios Beach worth visiting?

Yes, 100%. It’s one of the best beach towns in Corfu if you want a more laid-back vibe without the cruise ship crowds. The beach is beautiful, there are some great restaurants, and you’re right next to Porto Timoni.

How much is a taxi from Agios Georgios to Corfu Town?

A taxi will cost you around $60 (or €55). Prices can vary slightly depending on the season, but that’s the general rate. If you’re planning to explore more of Corfu, it’s worth renting a car instead.

Is Agios Georgios Beach a sandy beach?

Yes! It’s one of the longer sandy beaches in Corfu, which is nice because a lot of beaches here are small coves. The sand is soft, the water is shallow, and there’s plenty of space to lay down a towel without renting a sunbed.

Final Thoughts About Agios Georgios Beach Corfu

Agios Georgios Pagon is easily one of the best little beach towns in Corfu. It’s small enough to keep that local charm, with no massive resorts—just boutique hotels and guesthouses—but still has some of the most beautiful beaches around.

It’s also the perfect base for exploring northern Corfu, visiting nearby villages, doing an olive oil tasting, or even taking a day trip to Corfu Town. If you’re looking for a relaxed beach getaway with plenty of options to explore, Agios Georgios Beach Corfu is a winner.
