The 16 Best Anna Maria Island Restaurants and Why We Loved Them

Anna Maria Island on Florida’s Gulf Coast is one of those dreamy places that makes you ask yourself, “Should I just move here?” Honestly, I get it—because that’s exactly what we did. Well, kind of. Luckily for us, even though Carae’s originally from Texas, she has family on Anna Maria Island. That gave us the chance to live here for a summer a while back, and let me tell you—it was just amazing. This place feels like it’s straight out of a Caribbean postcard, with its white sand beaches and laid-back vibes.

Now let’s talk about the food. When it comes to dining, the Anna Maria Island restaurants offer some amazing experiences. From super fresh fish & local seafood to killer margaritas and some of the best happy hours you’ll ever stumble into, this island has it all. In this guide, I’m sharing not just the big-name spots, but also some hidden gems that locals absolutely love.

So, if you’re ready for a foodie adventure packed with flavor, sunshine, and good vibes, let’s dive into my guide to the best Anna Maria Island restaurants.

What Are the Best Anna Maria Island Restaurants That We Tried on Our Visit

I’ve organized all the restaurants and bars into categories—breakfast spots, happy hour favorites, and dinner options—to make things easier for you. But first, I’d like to share a couple of my personal favorites. These are places I kept going back to again and again, so they definitely deserve a special mention!

1.Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant on Longboat Key

Number one, even though it’s on Longboat Key and not technically Anna Maria Island, it doesn’t matter. If you have a car, it’s an easy trip—and honestly, Longboat Key is worth visiting on its own.

Now, onto my favorite spot: Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant. The location is stunning. The restaurant is set in an old fisherman’s house from the early 1900s, right next to the pier. Inside, it’s a modern take on old Florida style. Outside, you can eat right on the water, surrounded by mangroves.

The food? Incredible. Their signature dishes hit every time. My go-to is the spicy shrimp with french fries—hands down worth it.

2.Poppo’s Taqueria

If you’re on Pine Avenue and looking for a quick bite, Poppo’s Taqueria is hands-down my absolute favorite spot! Their burritos and tacos are insanely good—similar to Chipotle, but SO much better. The atmosphere feels like you’ve stepped into a Caribbean beach shack, and honestly, I’m here for it.

It’s the perfect place for a quick lunch or snack, and trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Oh, and a major shoutout to all my vegan and vegetarian friends—Poppo’s has plenty of options for you too! Honestly, it’s the best quick food you’ll find on Anna Maria Island.

3.Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe

If you’re looking for something easy and convenient, Anna Maria Island Beach Cafe is the way to go—especially if you’re heading to the beach because, yep, it’s right on the beach. The menu is super simple, but their breakfast pancakes are delicious. Plus, what’s better than soaking up the sun, toes in the sand, enjoying a tasty breakfast, and then diving straight into the ocean after?

4.Ginny’s & Jane E’s Cafe

If sitting in the sun isn’t your thing, Ginny’s & Jane E’s Cafe is the spot for you. This is my go-to brunch place when it’s way too hot to sit outside because they’ve got a nice air-conditioned indoor area. The vibe here is a little wild—with bright colors and a quirky shop full of the most random souvenirs—but honestly, that’s what makes it so fun.

Now, the food. I’m obsessed! My favorites are Ginny’s Benedict (classic eggs benedict) and the cream cheese Lox bagel—both are next-level good. And if you’ve got room after that, you have to try their cinnamon roll for dessert. Trust me, it’s worth it.

5.The Donut Experiment

This is definitely a must-do on Santa Maria Island! It might not be a hidden gem, but everyone—including the locals—loves it. The Donut Experiment serves all kinds of donuts. You can stick with the classic form (always delicious) or go for crazy toppings—they’re hands-down the best donuts on the island. On top, they make amazing iced coffee, and the little bakery has a super cute front porch. It’s the perfect spot to sit back, take a break, and enjoy your coffee and donut. Add it to your bucket list!

6.North Shore Cafe

Alright, saving the best for last—North Shore Cafe, hands down my favorite breakfast spot. The location is absolute perfection. It’s this cozy little shack right on one of the canals, with an outdoor seating area tucked between palm trees, right by the water. Their regular menu is all about the fancy classics: flat whites, cappuccinos, avocado toast, and acai bowls. I get it, not everyone’s into that kind of vibe, but I love the fresh, natural flavors. And let’s be real—it’s just super tasty.

7.The Waterfront Restaurant

One of my favorite restaurants on Anna Maria Island is The Waterfront Restaurant. It’s not super fancy, but it’s such a great spot for lunch or dinner. It’s a little on the pricier side, but it’s my go-to for date nights or a nice meal with friends and family.

I’m a big fan of their charcuterie board—it’s packed with delicious meats and cheeses. For dinner, their tuna steak is amazing, but they also have an extensive menu for their fresh seafood that is updated seasonally! They also offer classics like burgers and fish and chips if that’s more your thing. Plus, their bar is fantastic—it’s the perfect place for some really great drinks and cocktails.

8.Vinny’s Italian Kitchen

Definitely the best Italian food on AMI, hands down. I’d come here multiple times a month because it’s just that good. They nail the Italian classics like spaghetti bolognese and carbonara, and their pizzas are perfect for dinner.

It’s also an awesome lunch spot. Their subs and sandwiches are loaded with high-quality meats and cheeses, and they’re super filling.

9.Wicked Cantina Bradenton Beach

Wicked Cantina on Bradenton Beach is my go-to sit-down Mexican place on AMI. They have amazing food and drinks, and I’ve never had a bad meal here!

Their chips and salsa are always fresh, and they have some unique margarita flavors that are definitely worth trying. Plus, their outdoor seating area offers a great view of the ocean.

10.Anna Maria Oyster bar at Historic Bridge Street Pier

One of the must-visit spots in Bradenton Beach! It’s always packed, so definitely make a reservation. Sometimes touristy places feel overrated, but Anna Maria Oyster Bar lives up to the hype. Locals love it just as much as visitors because the fresh fish and seafood are top-notch, made with only the finest products. Carae is all about their oysters, but since I’m not a huge oyster fan, I usually go for the grilled prawns or crab—both are amazing. They’ve also got great craft beer, wine, and tequila, and the view is unbeatable. If you can, come at sunset—it’s worth it!

11.The Ugly Grouper

One of my favorite lunch and drink spots has to be The Ugly Grouper. They’ve got it all—great vibes, live music, and even cornhole. It’s the kind of place where you come for lunch and end up staying for a few drinks with friends because it’s just that much fun.

If you go, you’ve got to try their craft beers or grab some cheap spirits during happy hour. And for food, you should get the grouper tacos. They’re a must-have: soft shell fish tacos with a crispy cheese rim—they’re to die for.

12.Rod & Reel Pier

I used to love Rod & Reel Pier. It’s an amazing seafood spot right at the end of a pier in the middle of the ocean—perfect for lunch.

Unfortunately, after recent hurricanes and flooding, they’ve had to close down due to severe property damage. They’re currently rebuilding and could use some help. If you want to learn more or support their efforts, check out their website!

13.Skinny’s Place inc.

Skinnys Place Inc is your classic beach shack/dive bar restaurant with a laid-back vibe. The spot has a super cool old Florida feel, complete with picnic benches and all outdoor seating. The food is exactly what you’d expect—pub favorites like burgers and fries. It’s tasty, and best of all, it won’t break the bank.

The real highlight? is the happy hour. They used to do $1 beers from 3-6 PM about 5 years ago, but now it’s $2 beers—which is still an absolute steal.

14.Freckled Fin Irish Pub

No spot is complete without an Irish pub, and Anna Maria Island is no different. If you’re craving a taste of Ireland, head to Freckled Fin. It’s the perfect weekend hangout, with things like karaoke and live music to keep the vibes going.

My go-to to is the Reuben sandwich with tater tots and a Guinness. Simple, but exactly what you’re looking for. Word on the street is the cheese curds and poutine are a must-try too!

15.The Doctor’s Office

The best cocktail bar on Anna Maria Island has got to be The Doctor’s Office, right next to Freckled Fin!

You might miss it if you’re just walking by—it’s super lowkey from the outside. But head to the back, and you’ll find a cozy garden with fairy lights, perfect for chilled-out drinks.

The bartenders here are pros. We tried the Painkiller and an Espresso Martini, and honestly, they nailed it.

The outdoor deck is right on the beach, so you can enjoy a cocktail while taking in the stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s perfect for a date night or special occasion.

Be sure to try their signature drink—the Sandbar Sangria—and pair it with some fresh seafood dishes for the ultimate dining experience.
