Looking for a good coffee and breakfast in Taipei? You’re in the right place, because Taipei’s coffee scene is actually incredible. I didn’t expect that either, but it really surprised me.
When I visited Taipei ( and Taiwan) for the first time, I had no idea the city had such a strong coffee culture. Great cafes are everywhere and since I’m kind of obsessed with a good cup (thanks to living in Australia for three years), I made it my mission to head out every morning and try one of the best cafes in Taipei.
In this article, I’ll share my personal experience and round up the best coffee spots in the city. And yes, I’ll also call out one place I thought was super overrated, so you know what to skip. Let’s get into it.

What are the Best Cafes in Taiwan? I’ve got the Answers
Quick disclaimer: this list isn’t ranked, it’s just a collection of places I’ve personally been to, really liked, and would recommend to anyone looking for good coffee in Taipei. I usually order a flat white (or a latte if that’s all they do), so that’s the baseline I’m judging from.
Let’s talk about the cafe culture here because it’s a little different from what I’m used to. In Taiwan, a lot of places are coffee shops and not full-on brunch cafes. That means you’ll usually find great pastries, but not always a full breakfast menu. What I did most mornings was grab a local Taiwanese breakfast (which, by the way, is amazing) and then head to a proper coffee spot after.
One thing that threw me off at first: cafes here don’t open early. In Australia, people are lining up for coffee at 6am. In Taipei, a lot of places open at 10am and stay open late, like 10pm late. I guess it makes sense, the city feels like it runs on a night owl schedule.
Also, coffee is a bit pricier than I expected with usually around $5–6 USD for a latte, but to be fair, most spots take it seriously, and the quality is definitely there.
If I had to pick a favorite, I’d probably go with Summer Savage, it’s a tiny coffee window in a quiet neighborhood, super cool vibe, really good coffee.
One place I wouldn’t go back to is definitely Fika Fika Cafe. Not sure what all the hype is about, the coffee was fine, the food was forgettable, and it was overpriced for what it was.

1. Wilbeck Cafe // Best Cafe in Taipei to Work From
Opening Hours: 7:30am-6pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Website & Location
Wilbeck was actually one of the first coffee shops I went to in Taipei, and I was properly surprised by how good it was. I ended up coming back a couple times, and both times I had a flat white which was great and one of the best value-for-money options in the city.
The vibe here is very laid-back. You’ll see a few people working on their laptops, so if you need to get some stuff done, it’s a decent spot for that too. They don’t have a full menu, just a handful of pastries. I didn’t try any, but the cinnamon rolls looked delicious.
Little tip: if you’re also looking to get some breakfast, head to 秦小姐豆漿 信義店 first (it’s a great local Taiwanese breakfast spot just around the corner), then swing by Wilbeck for your coffee afterwards.

2. 小川珈琲所 (Ogawa Coffee) // Best Outdoor Cafe in Taipei
Opening Hours: 9am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Website & Location
Like with a lot of food spots in Taiwan, especially smaller or more local places, this one only shows up under its Chinese name on Google Maps which is why I’ll make sure to tag it properly so you can find it.
Ogawa Coffee is a tiny little coffee window located in a cute small building in a really nice neighborhood not far from Taipei 101. It’s a small setup, no full breakfast menu or anything, just tasty coffee and a few pastries or cakes on display. If you’re into pour over, this is a good place to try one, but their latte was also excellent.
Out back, there’s a little courtyard with outdoor seating, which makes it a great place to hang out on a sunny day. This spot is actually in the same area as Wilbeck Cafe, so I’ll repeat my earlier tip: grab breakfast first at 秦小姐豆漿 信義店 (one of my favorite Taiwanese breakfast places nearby), then come here for your coffee.

3. After 5 // Coolest Cafe in Taiwan
Opening Hours: 8am-7pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Website & Location
Maybe this is the best Cafe in Taiwan?!
After 5 ended up being one of my favorite cafes in Taipei. From the outside, it already looks cool, kind of industrial and typical Taiwanese and inside it’s got a super cozy vibe, especially on a rainy day (which is when I went). I feel like Taiwanese cafés have this really cool mix of modern design and calm atmosphere, and this one really nailed it.
The coffee here was great, no complaints at all. They do have a slightly bigger food menu than most of the other places I went to, but still nothing heavy, just pastries and small bites. So don’t come here expecting a full brunch, but if you just want to relax with a fantastic cup of coffee, this place is a win.

4. Summer Savage // Best Coffee Shop in Taiwan
Opening Hours: 8am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Website & Location
Summer Savage is probably my personal favorite cafe in Taipei. It’s nothing more than a small coffee window on the side of a quiet street, but the coffee here was easily the best I had in the city.
They roast their own beans just down the road, and you can really tell, everything just tasted incredibly fresh and well-balanced. It’s mostly a takeaway spot, but there are a couple of chairs on the sidewalk where you can hang out for a bit. When we first arrived, it seemed dead quiet, but five minutes later people started lining up and it got busy real quick. Definitely a super cool local coffee shop in Taipei.

5. Kikumo
Opening Hours: 8am-5pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★
Website & Location
If you thought the other places on this list were minimal, Kikumo takes it one step further. It’s a tiny little café with just a couple of spots to sit, and no real food menu aside from pastries and cakes. Definitely more of a grab-a-coffee-and-go kind of place.
That said, the coffee was great. I wouldn’t come here to hang out for hours, it didn’t really have that cozy vibe but if you’re nearby, it’s a great spot for a good takeaway cup.
6. D23 Coffee Roasters
Opening Hours: 9am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Website & Location
D23 is a small specialty coffee bar where the focus is very much on quality. They do great pour overs, and if you’re into matcha, cold brew or other specialty drinks, this is a good spot too. I had a pour over here that was excellent.
It’s not huge, just a few chairs inside, but they do have a bit more on the food side than some of the others. They offer banana bread, croissants, and simple sandwiches. Still not a full breakfast café, but more than just a pastry.
7. Mountain Kids Coffee Roasters
Opening Hours: 8am-10pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★
Website & Location
Mountain Kids is one of the few places in Taipei I actually came back to a couple times to get some work done. It’s a small café, mostly takeaway downstairs, but there’s a little upstairs area where it’s okay to set up your laptop for a few hours.
The flat white here was spot on! If you’re traveling and need to get a bit of work done while still having good coffee, this place works.

I might not be the best person to ask for this, but I’d say After 5 or Summer Savage. Both have a cool look and make for a good photo.
What are the best restaurants in Taipei?
There are so many, but Din Tai Fung is definitely up there for me. Also, don’t skip the street food markets, they’ve got some of the best food in the city.
Is Taipei worth visiting?
Absolutely. No question. For me, it was my first real experience with Chinese culture, and it was such a good introduction, especially when it comes to food.
What are the best cafes in Taipei with a view?
I didn’t really go to any view cafés myself, but Simple Kaffa is one I’ve heard people rave about for its view and setup.
Final Thoughts on the Best Coffee Shops in Taipei
I loved the coffee shops in Taipei. Most of them were more on the “coffee-only” side, so I didn’t really get proper meals, but the coffee was consistently great.
That worked out fine, though, because Taiwanese breakfast is amazing. I’d usually grab a scallion pancake, sandwich, or some dim sum somewhere, then head to a café for coffee after. It became part of the routine.
Taipei, for me, was basically one big food trip with night markets, cafés, random noodle spots and that’s exactly how I’d recommend you approach it. Less sightseeing, more eating.
