The 11 Best Restaurants in Tulum Mexico: My Guide to the Top Food Spots
I’m a foodie through and through, which is probably why this is the Tulum guide I’m most excited to share since it’s all about the best restaurants in Tulum Mexico.
I’ve always loved exploring new flavors, but my obsession with Mexican food is on another level. Honestly, I think it’s the best cuisine in the world, fresh, bold, comforting, spicy in all the right ways and Tulum has no shortage of amazing places to try it.
Since most of you visiting Tulum will be eating out for pretty much every meal, I thought I’d put together my personal list of favorites. These aren’t just the “Instagram-famous” spots; this guide includes everything from hole-in-the-wall taco joints to cute local cafés, vegan kitchens, and some of the chicest dinner spots in town. Basically, the kind of list I wish I had when I first came here.
So let’s get into it, because if there’s one thing you don’t want to waste time on in Tulum, it’s a bad meal.

Looking for the Best Tulum Restaurants? I’ve Got the Answers Right Here
I’ve been to Tulum a few times now, and one of the things I love most is that every trip feels like a new food adventure. I always go back to my favorite spots (because once you’ve had a perfect taco, you can’t just move on), but I also make it a point to try new places each time. That’s the beauty of Tulum, there are long-time institutions that everyone swears by, but also fresh new restaurants popping up all the time.
This list isn’t a ranking; it’s more of a mix of everything I personally enjoyed. I didn’t want to just make it “10 fancy dinner spots” (no one needs that). Instead, I pulled together a real mix with everything from street tacos to vegan spots, casual local favorites, a few nice dinner restaurants, and even one pizza place I couldn’t leave out. I know some of you can’t eat Mexican food every single night (though personally, I definitely could).
Before we dive in, I have to give a quick shoutout to two of my all-time favorites: La Taqueria, which is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in Tulum, and Tacos Pepe, which makes the best street tacos I’ve ever had.
Every trip, I eat at Pepe’s multiple times, no shame. Honestly, I could live off those tacos, but part of the fun in Tulum is exploring all the different food it has to offer… and that’s exactly what this list is about.

The 11 Best Restaurants Tulum Mexico
1. La Taqueria (Pinches Taco Shop) // Best Mexican Food in Tulum
Opening Hours: 8pm-10:30pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Location
Okay, so technically this list isn’t a ranking, but I couldn’t resist putting my actual number one favorite restaurant in Tulum right at the top. La Taqueria in La Veleta is the spot I come back to every single time I’m in town. I think my first visit was sometime around 2020, and honestly, I’ve been hooked ever since.
What I love most about La Taqueria is that it feels like the perfect mix between a casual local joint and a stylish Tulum restaurant. You get all the charm of Mexican street food, but served up in a beautiful open-air patio surrounded by palm trees, to me it just feels like the best of both worlds.
Now onto the food (the reason we’re all here, right?). At this point I’ve pretty much worked my way through most of the menu. Their tacos are always a win, but the quesadillas al pastor might just be my personal favorite. I’ve also had their burritos and nachos and let me say, they do it all really well. And yes, they also have vegan and vegetarian options, which is great if you’re traveling with friends who don’t eat meat (fun fact, I actually used to be a vegetarian the very first time I visited Mexico).
And before I forget: their margaritas. Seriously, so good. I’d come here just for tacos and margaritas alone, but luckily, you get so much more.

2. La Negra Tomasa // Best Seafood in Tulum
Opening Hours: 12pm-11pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Location
La Negra Tomasa is hands down one of my go-to spots in Tulum when I’m craving seafood. It’s not exactly a hidden gem (it’s pretty popular), but honestly, it deserves the hype, the food is fantastic.
If you don’t know this about me already: I’m straight-up obsessed with ceviche, aguachile, and basically anything that falls into the Mexican seafood category, so this place feels like it was made for me.
I’ve been here a couple of times now, and I think it’s the perfect lunch spot in Tulum. On a hot day, nothing beats a plate of fresh seafood with a cold beer.
Their ceviche and aguachiles are my top picks, both are made with raw fish or shrimp that’s “cooked” in lime juice or chili water, giving it that tangy, refreshing kick. I’ve also had their fish tacos, and they’re excellent too. La Negra Tomasa serves proper, authentic Mexican seafood, and it’s definitely worth adding to your Tulum food list.

3. Il Bacaro La Veleta Tulum
Opening Hours: 12pm-12am
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
Next up is Il Bacaro in La Veleta, which I have to say is probably my favorite neighborhood in Tulum for food and drinks. Don’t get me wrong, the beachfront hotel zone is stunning, but when it comes to actual good restaurants, coffee, and bars, La Veleta is where it’s at (the hotel zone is mostly overpriced and overrated, there, I said it).
Il Bacaro is just down the road from La Taqueria, and it’s another really cool dinner spot with an open-air concept and that stylish Tulum vibe. The place feels like a mix between a proper restaurant and a laid-back cocktail bar, which makes it a great choice if you’re after a nice evening out.
And listen, as much as I’m obsessed with Mexican food, sometimes I just crave a pizza, a bowl of pasta, and a glass of wine and Il Bacaro delivered perfectly on that. I’ve only been once so far, but the pizza was excellent, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere made it feel like the perfect spot for a relaxed but special night out. Definitely one to add to your list if you need a little Italian break while in Tulum.

4. El Bajon Vegan Tacos // One of the Best Vegan Restaurants in Tulum
Opening Hours: 12pm-9pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
If there’s one place in Mexico where vegans and vegetarians don’t have to miss out on the flavors and soul of Mexican food, it’s Tulum. On my very first trip here, I was actually vegetarian myself, so naturally I tried just about every vegan taco joint in town. Honestly, Tulum does vegan Mexican food better than anywhere else I’ve been, and El Bajon Vegan Tacos is a big reason why.
What I love about this spot is that it doesn’t feel like a “vegan health café” at all. You know the type with buddha bowls, all-white walls, green juices everywhere. Nope, El Bajon looks and feels like a proper little Mexican taquería: colorful décor, a tiny building tucked away on a side street, and a super casual atmosphere. The only difference is that everything on the menu happens to be vegan.
I had their al pastor and bistec tacos, and they were honestly incredible, juicy, flavorful, and seasoned the right way. If you’re vegan, this place is a no-brainer, but even if you’re not, you’ll still love it. I eat meat these days and I’d still come back in a heartbeat because the tacos here are just that good.

5. Tacos y Tortas El Tio // My Top Tulum Street Tacos
Opening Hours: 6pm-2am
Price: $
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
Now we’re getting into my absolute favorite part of Mexico: the street food. And Tulum does not disappoint. Before you get skeptical, I’m telling you don’t be a weeny. Try the street tacos. I promise they’ll be some of the best you’ve ever had.
I learned early on that if you want the real best Mexican food in any town, you have to head out in the evening and follow the locals. In Tulum, that usually leads straight to El Tio, right in the city center where all the street food carts gather.
My usual order here is five tacos al pastor. When I was last there, they cost only 50 pesos (that’s under $3!), and they were amazing. Of course, El Tio also serves plenty of other tacos and tortas (basically big, delicious Mexican sandwiches), but honestly, the al pastor is my go-to.
If you want to eat like a local and get a true taste of Tulum, don’t skip El Tio. It’s proper street food, messy, flavorful, and unforgettable.

6. Boccanera Pizzeria
Opening Hours: 4pm-10:30pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
Because I didn’t want this whole list to be only Mexican food, I had to sneak in another pizza spot (sorry not sorry, I just really love Italian food too). Boccanera Pizzeria easily makes some of the best pizza I’ve had in Tulum.
Like many of my favorite restaurants, it’s located in La Veleta and honestly, the neighborhood is a foodie’s dream. The space is chic, modern, and has that cozy-but-cool vibe that makes it a great dinner spot, especially if you’re staying nearby. Perfect if you’re in the mood for wine, wood-fired pizza, and a proper sit-down dinner after a long beach day.
7. Raw Love Café
Opening Hours: 9am-6pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★
Menu & Location
I also had to include Raw Love, which is probably one of the most famous cafés in Tulum. These days it has its own location downtown, but I first knew it back when it was tucked away in the hotel zone. Wherever it’s set up, the food is always fantastic.
It’s an all-vegan café with bowls, smoothies, and healthy plant-based dishes that leave you feeling light and energized. Not that I don’t adore a greasy Mexican breakfast, but sometimes I just want something fresh and nourishing and for me, Raw Love has always been that go-to spot.

8. Taqueria Honorio
Opening Hours: 6:30m-3pm
Price: $
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
Next up is another true Mexican spot in Tulum, not chic, not fancy, but absolutely authentic and, most importantly, delicious.
I love mixing it up: yes, I enjoy a stylish dinner out, but I also crave real, no-fuss Mexican food, and Taqueria Honorio delivers exactly that. It’s simple, inexpensive, and the kind of place I usually head to for lunch.
What makes it stand out is that it’s not all about tacos (don’t get me wrong, I love tacos, but variety is key). Here I’ve had incredible chilaquiles, basically tortilla chips drenched in salsa with an egg on top, a typical Mexican breakfast, as well as their rich, flavorful mole. In case you’re new to it, mole is a traditional Mexican sauce, often layered with spices, chili, and sometimes chocolate. At Honorio, you’ll find it served like a hearty stew with meat or veggies, and it’s absolutely delicious.
I always tell people: Mexico has so much more to offer than just tacos, quesadillas, and burritos. If you want to explore that side of the cuisine, Taqueria Honorio is the place.

9. Moro By Our Habitas
Opening Hours: 8m-10pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
Okay, I know earlier I was hating a little on the Hotel Zone and the whole Tulum Beach dining scene (and to be fair, most places there really are overpriced and overrated). But credit where credit’s due and Moro by Our Habitas is an exception, and I actually really loved it.
I only went here once, on my most recent trip to Tulum, but it ended up being one of those dinners that sticks in your memory. The restaurant is set right on the beach, and it’s basically as “boho Tulum” as it gets with cozy corners, lanterns, and dreamy beachside vibes.
Food-wise, I went for the catch of the day (don’t ask me which fish, because I genuinely forgot but I remember it being perfectly fried and super flavorful).
We also ordered the pide and the octopus, which was tender and so good. We came here for a date night, and honestly, that’s exactly what this place is made for. It’s definitely pricier than eating in town, but for the atmosphere and experience, I’d say it was absolutely worth it.

10. El Agavero
Opening Hours: 9am-12am
Price: $$$
My Rating: –
Menu & Location
Since we’re getting toward the end of the list, I wanted to add a couple of spots I haven’t tried yet but that are already at the top of my list for my next trip to Tulum. El Agavero is one of them.
It’s a Mexican restaurant in La Veleta (again, I know, but what can I say, all the best food seems to be here). From everything I’ve seen and read, the place looks absolutely gorgeous with stylish décor and a warm atmosphere. Their menu covers all the Mexican staples like tacos and mole, but they also serve steaks and some really good-looking cocktails.
Honestly, what first caught my eye was the design of the restaurant, it looks like such a cool place to hang out, but the food looks just as tempting. I’m super excited to give it a try next time I’m in Tulum.
11. La Brasa Tulum
Opening Hours: 5:30pm-12am
Price: $$$
My Rating: –
Menu & Location
Last but not least on my list is La Brasa Tulum. I haven’t made it here myself yet, but a friend of mine just recommended it and now it’s high on my “next trip” list.
From what I’ve seen, it looks like a super chic dinner spot the kind of place that’s perfect for a date night. It’s a grill and wine palace (yes, that’s really what they call it), so naturally steak is the star of the show. And since I’ll never say no to a good steak and a glass of red, I’m already excited to check this one out next time I’m in Tulum.

At the end of the day, Tulum’s food scene is incredible. I know some people like to say Tulum is overrated or “ruined,” but honestly, they probably just don’t know where to eat. If you stick to the flashy hotel zone, sure, you’ll end up with overpriced, underwhelming food.
Most of my best meals have been in La Veleta, which has quickly become my favorite neighborhood in Tulum. From little local eateries to chic dinner spots, the variety there is just unbeatable.
