The 9 Best Coffee Shops & Cafes in Weligama: A Local’s Guide to Great Coffee & Delicious Food
The little beach towns on Sri Lanka’s south coast are getting more and more popular—probably because Sri Lanka as a whole is blowing up as a travel destination. It’s definitely not a hidden gem (and never really was), especially with surfers and backpackers, but it feels like in the last few years, even more people are catching on.
With that, it’s no surprise that businesses, restaurants, cafes, and hotels are all evolving to keep up. Weligama—along with Ahangama, Mirissa, and Hiriketiya—is developing an amazing café culture, with some of the best breakfast and brunch spots I’ve ever been to. Fingers crossed it holds onto its cozy charm and doesn’t get too over-commercialized.
Anyway, with so many great cafés in Weligama, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed—It feels like there are at least 50 that look amazing. So, to make your life easier (especially when you just want a solid post-surf coffee), I’ve put together a list of my favorites.

What are the best Cafes in Weligama? We’ve got the Answers!
Weligama, Sri Lanka, is pretty small, and I’ve always felt like it’s not the easiest place to just stumble across a new café. It’s not the most walkable spot, so unless you’re staying right in the center, you’ll definitely want a scooter to get around. That’s why I’m putting together this list of the best coffee spots in town—so you don’t have to go searching.
One of my favorites, for sure, is Nomad Café. They recently renovated to fit more people, and honestly, I think they have the best shakshuka in the whole country.
If you just need a solid, no-fuss coffee on the go, there are some great little spots around, too. I love Soul Temple, which is right next door to Nomad, for a quick flat white or espresso.
And since I know Sri Lanka is full of digital nomads, if you’re looking for a café to work from, Plan B (which is also a coworking space) is definitely the way to go.
One last thing—this isn’t a ranking, just a list of my personal favorites in no particular order. So please don’t come at me if you don’t love one of them (highly unlikely, though), because I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences at most of these places!

1.Nomad // My TOP Cafe in Weligama
Opening Hours: 8am-6pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Website
First up on this list—okay, fine, this one might actually be my favorite—is Nomad Café. They recently renovated and expanded, so it should fit more people now since the last time I was there.
Nomad has a super cool, laid-back boho vibe, and the staff is always really friendly. It’s my go-to spot when I want to sit down and treat myself to a proper breakfast.
They’ve got plenty of gluten-free and vegan options, but I always go for their shakshuka or the potato rösti eggs Benedict—both are insanely good. Of course, they also make great coffee, whether you’re after a flat white, latte, or cappuccino.
Another thing I love is, they have their own little bakery where they make all their sweet treats in-house. Think almond croissants and cinnamon rolls—fresh, buttery, and way too easy to eat.

2.Plan B // Best Cafe in Weligama to Work From
Opening Hours: 8am-9pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Website
Plan B is the ultimate digital nomad setup—they’ve got a café, a coworking space, and even a coliving space all in one. The café is in their courtyard, and it’s super cute and cozy. They make fantastic coffee here, and I was also really into their smoothie bowls. But honestly, their whole kitchen is great—they do a nice fusion of Sri Lankan and Western dishes, so it’s a solid spot for lunch or dinner too.
They have a designated coworking space that’s indoors and air-conditioned, which you can reserve. Prices range from $6 to $12 USD, depending on how long you stay, but the cool part is that you get about half of that back as credits for the café. So if you’re planning to have breakfast and coffee here anyway, it’s not a bad deal.
I’m pretty sure you can also work from the courtyard café—I’ve seen plenty of people with their laptops out—but I can’t 100% vouch for that.

3.After Surf Rooftop Cafe
Opening Hours: 8am-9pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Website
After Surf Rooftop Café, part of Lucky’s Surf Camp, might just be the prettiest rooftop café in Weligama. It’s beautifully decorated, has an amazing ocean view, and is a great spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner—or even cocktails if you’re in the mood.
I especially love it for a late breakfast after an early surf session—it’s got that perfect laid-back vibe. The surf shop and school are downstairs, and the café sits up on the rooftop, making it a great place to chill out post-surf.
They’ve got plenty of vegan friendly and gluten-free options, and everything I’ve tried has been delicious. Their French toast and pancakes are seriously good, so if you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t skip those. Pretty sure they’re open daily, and honestly, it’s just one of those spots you’ll probably end up coming back to more than once.

4.Soul Temple Coffee Shop // Best Coffee Shop
Opening Hours: 8am-4:20pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Website
First of all, the vibe here is just super cool. There’s a little upstairs terrace, a skate half-pipe at the bottom, and the whole design is just effortlessly stylish. It’s part coffee shop, part surf school, and part boutique hotel. I haven’t personally stayed here, but honestly, it looks pretty cool.
This is my go-to coffee spot in Weligama—I come here mainly for a really good coffee and maybe a quick bite. They don’t do full sit-down breakfasts or anything, their menu is just specialty coffee and a small selection of bakery items. But if all you need is a solid flat white and a chilled-out spot to enjoy it, this place is perfect.
5.Nutry Cafe
Opening Hours: 8am-4:30pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★
Menu & Website
I love Nutry Café because it’s a bit more chill than some of the other spots. Places like Nomad are great but can get pretty packed, whereas Nutry feels a little more low-key—plus, it’s more affordable, which is always a bonus.
They’ve got both downstairs and upstairs seating, and if you grab a spot upstairs, you’ll get a great ocean view. All the food I’ve had here has been solid—the avocado with feta on toast is really good, but if you’re coming for lunch, I’d definitely recommend their poke bowls. Had one last time, and it was so good.

6.Kopi // Best Hidden Gem Cafe in Weligama
I really loved their little mugs, and if I had space in my backpack I definitely would’ve bought one or two!
Opening Hours: 8am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Website
I actually stumbled upon this place by accident, and honestly, I’d call it a bit of a hidden gem. It literally feels like someone just turned their house into a café, with the outdoor seating set up in what looks like a driveway. But somehow, it just works. If they don’t have their sign out, you’d probably walk right past it.
It’s super cute and has that homemade, personal touch. The coffee is spot on—I had one of the best flat whites here, and they serve them in these beautiful ceramic mugs (which you can actually buy in their shop).
For breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the Turkish eggs, and they were phenomenal—but if you’re more into a classic breakfast, their full English is also really solid.
They also bake their own desserts and cakes, with both vegan and non-vegan options, which is a nice touch since it can be hard to find good vegan sweet treats around here.
7.Layback Rooftop
Opening Hours: 8am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Website
Another surf school with a rooftop café and bar on top—seems to be a common thing around here. Not complaining, though!
I really liked this place because it felt very health-focused, which I love. Honestly, I always find it easier to eat healthier in hot countries—just feels right, especially when you’re surfing all day.
The views from up here are amazing, the coffee is solid, and they have this incredible bowl with roasted veggies, a salad, and grilled shrimp. I totally forgot what it’s called on the menu, but you’ll figure it out when you get there. Highly recommend!

8.Hangten Rooftop Restaurant // Best Cheap Cafe
Opening Hours: 7am-9:30pm
Price: $
My Rating: ★★★
Menu & Website
Hangten Rooftop Restaurant is part of the Hangtime Hostel in Weligama, where I actually stayed for a few nights—otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have discovered this place.
I was honestly surprised by how great a rooftop restaurant and café a hostel can have. It’s definitely the place to be if you’re backpacking or traveling around Sri Lanka. The vibe is super social, and the atmosphere is really fun.
The breakfast here was fantastic and surprisingly affordable, especially compared to other cafés in the area. Their smoothie bowls and acai bowls are really good, and their juices are tasty as well. I’ve also had lunch here, and they do some surprisingly good burgers. So, if you’re ever craving a good ol’ burger, this is definitely a spot to check out.
9.Ceylon Sliders
Opening Hours: 7:30am-10pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★
Menu & Website
Ceylon Sliders is a bit outside the main area of Weligama, so you’ll probably want a scooter to get there. We stopped by one day on our way from Ahangama to Weligama, absolutely starving, and had a great experience.
The place has a nice rooftop, and I was surprised by how good the coffee was. They offer a little bit of everything—burgers, bowls, and even some Sri Lankan meals.
Since it was still morning when we got there, I went for a coffee and then had their breakfast burger, which had avocado and a fried egg. We stayed for a while and decided to get some of their carrot cake for dessert, and honestly, it was fantastic. Definitely a cool little spot to check out if you’re looking to venture outside of Weligama.

Absolutely! Weligama is hands down the top spot on Sri Lanka’s south coast for beginner surfers—it’s definitely the most popular. You’ll find loads of surf camps, some of which are super cool and beautiful. Plus, the restaurant, cafe, and bar scene here is great, with a pretty decent nightlife to match.
What is the best cafe in Weligama?
Well, in my humble opinion, Nomad Cafe takes the top spot. It’s not that other cafes aren’t good, but the breakfast at Nomad is just on another level. Their Shakshuka and Potato Rosti Eggs Benedict are delicious, and they make a fantastic flat white—what more could you want?
Are there laptop-friendly cafes in Weligama?
Yes, definitely! Most places here are really considerate and welcoming, so just read the room. If you’re looking for a designated working space, Plan B is a great option—it’s a coworking space as well as a cafe, so you can work there no matter how busy it is. Final Thoughts on the Best Coffee Shops in Weligama
All in all, the coffee and cafe culture in Weligama, and really across a lot of Sri Lanka’s beach towns, is amazing. It’s a bit wild how fast it’s growing, and I get why people are a little nervous that it could turn into the next Bali (overdeveloped and commercialized). But for now, it still has that chill vibe.
I hope this guide helps you find your next breakfast, brunch, or coffee spot in Weligama. And if you’ve got the time, just try them all—it’s totally worth it!
