The Best Way to Travel from Cebu to Bohol
There are a couple of ways to get from Cebu to Bohol, but taking the ferry is by far the easiest way to reach the island. It’s cheap, quick, and runs multiple times a day.
We took the ferry and it was super smooth—no seasickness, no chaos. That said, we did run into a few hiccups we weren’t expecting. That’s why we put this guide together: so you don’t make the same mistakes we did.
Lets get into the details
Ferry Companies Operating from Cebu to Bohol
Two main companies run ferries from Cebu to Bohol: OceanJet and SuperCat.
We went with OceanJet, as it’s the most popular route and the ride itself was great—assigned seats, solid air-con (actually too solid), and it got us to Bohol on time. But the boarding process at the Cebu Port was kind of a mess. There were multiple ticketing and check-in lines, and it felt like we were just hopping from one line to the next for no reason. Once we finally made it into the terminal, things got much better.
The seats weren’t the comfiest, but they were totally fine for a short trip. Just don’t forget a hoodie or something warm.
SuperCat by 2GO is the other big player. It’s about the same price but goes way less often. If OceanJet is full or the ferry schedule fits your timeline, SuperCat’s a solid option.
Both ferries leave from Pier 1 in Cebu Cityand arrive at Tagbilaran Port in Bohol.

Where to Catch the Ferry from Cebu to Bohol – Our Experience
Some guides will give you every possible ferry port in Cebu or take you to Tubigon Port in Bohol, but honestly? Not necessary. Almost everyone takes the ferry from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Tagbilaran Port in Bohol, and that’s what this guide is based on.
Pier 1 is about 13 km from the airport, but depending on traffic, it can take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes to get there. A Grab ride from the airport to Pier 1 cost us 418 pesos, so it’s pretty straightforward if you’re coming straight from the airport.
If you don’t already have a ticket, you can technically buy one before heading into the terminal — but don’t do it. We made that mistake and missed the first ferry we planned to take. The ticket counter was painfully slow. Like, we waited 45 minutes behind ten people and still didn’t make it to the front. Meanwhile, the line behind us tripled. Total chaos.
If you’re smart (which you obviously are because you’re reading this), book your Cebu to Bohol ferry ticket online ahead of time. Then, you can skip that disaster and go straight into the terminal.
Once you’re at Pier 1, here’s what to expect:
- Go through security.
- Pay the terminal fee (25 pesos, cash only).
- Check in at the counter to get your proper boarding pass and seat assignment. (OceanJet and SuperCat check-in counters are side-by-side — one’s on the left, the other on the right.)
- If you have big luggage, you’ll need to check it. We kept our backpacks with us after hearing stories about bags going missing in action when boats continued on to Siquijor. If you’ve got a big backpack, they’ll probably make you check it, though.
Once you’ve cleared all that, you’ll enter the main waiting area. There’s decent seating, free Wi-Fi, a few food options, and clean bathrooms. We grabbed fries from Potato Corner and just hung out until boarding.
Check-in closes 30 minutes before departure, so give yourself plenty of time — especially if you’re coming from another part of Cebu City, where traffic loves to play games.

How Much is the Cebu to Bohol Ferry Ticket Price?
Here’s what passengers can expect price-wise (as of 2025): Cebu to Tagbilaran City Port (Bohol’s Port)
- Tourist Class: ₱800 (~$14 USD)
- Business Class: ₱1200+ (~$21+ USD)
- Terminal Fee: ₱25 (paid in cash at the terminal)
If you buy your tickets at the terminal, it must be paid in Cash and you’ll need a valid ID. Online booking is 100% the way to go, as you’ll skip that dreaded ticket line and there are no fees. It’s seriously a win/win.

Cebu to Bohol Ferry Schedule
Fast Ferries run daily, starting as early as 6:00 AM and going until around 6:30 PM. We originally planned to catch the 11:40 AM OceanJet ferry, which would have gotten us to Bohol just in time for check-in. But thanks to our ticketing office delays, we ended up on the 1:00 PM ferry instead. Honestly, it was fine—just made for a super long day since we’d already taken an early flight from Siargao.
The ferry ride typically lasts about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending on the boat and weather.

Should You Book in Advance?
In our experience, it’s not really necessary to book far in advance. We’ve always booked our ferries in the Philippines on the day of or the day before, and we’ve never had an issue getting the time we wanted and decent seats.
Things can be a bit unpredictable on the islands, so your plans may change last minute. That said, we definitely recommend booking online—DO NOT book at the terminal!
Arriving in Bohol: Where the Ferry Drops You Off
You’ll arrive at Tagbilaran Port, the main ferry terminal in Bohol. It’s super straightforward—grab your bags, head out, and brace yourself for the swarm of taxi drivers. If you know where you’re going, it’s actually not all that bad.
Pro tip: the tuk-tuks are hidden around the bend, past all the taxi action.
From there, it depends where you’re staying—but if you’re headed to Panglao Island (especially Alona Beach), which is where most travelers go, here’s what the ride looks like:
- ₱800 for a private van – quick and comfy, but definitely the priciest.
- ₱400–500 for a tuk tuk – depends on your haggling skills. We got it down to ₱350 (shoutout to Oliver who is a very persistent German) making it the cheapest way to Panglao.
- ₱250 per person for a shared van – this is what we went with. Even after Oliver haggled with the Tuk Tuk driver, I really wanted that A/C. And they drop you off right at your accommodation. For a few extra bucks, I was fine with it.
You can also ask your accommodation to arrange a transfer. It’s usually the most expensive option, but also the easiest if you don’t feel like dealing with the chaos.
🔥 Don’t miss the best of Bohol. We made the trip, tested the routes, found the good food (and the not-so-good), and packed it all into one super easy Bohol itinerary. If you want to make the most of your time without wasting a second — check it out here!

Cebu to Bohol Flight? Not Worth It
Yes, there’s an airport in Tagbilaran, and Cebu Pacific technically flies there — but the flights are infrequent, often delayed, and by the time you factor in getting to the airport, checking in, and waiting… it’s just not worth it. The ferry wins every time.
Final Tips for Traveling from Cebu to Bohol
- Bring a light jacket – Ferries crank the AC like it’s winter.
- Have pesos ready – Especially for the terminal fee and transport in Bohol.
- Eat before boarding – Snacks onboard are limited and overpriced. I also recommend having a sprite or something fizzy to help with any nausea.
- If you get seasick – As someone who struggles with motion sickness, the ferry ride was super manageable and short. I would only take a dramamine if the weather is bad or else you might be super groggy the rest of the day.
