A Mini Guide to Porto Timoni Beach Corfu: Everything You Need to Know in 2025

Last Updated on June 17, 2025 by Oliver

Porto Timoni Beach is easily one of the most talked-about beaches in Corfu and probably one you’ve already seen on Google Images or Instagram while figuring out if it’s worth the hike. Spoiler: it is.

There are hundreds of beaches in Corfu, some sandy, some pebbly, nearly all with ridiculously clear water but Porto Timoni is different. It’s basically two bays back to back, split by a narrow strip of land. From above, it looks almost too perfect, and yes, the view really is as good as it looks in the photos (which is rare, to be honest).

I’ve been there a couple of times now, and while I do think it’s worth seeing, there are definitely a few things I wish I’d known before my first visit. So here’s a quick mini guide to Porto Timoni with how to get there, what to expect, and some tips to help you not hate your life halfway through the hike.

Porto Timoni Beach – My Experience

When we visited Porto Timoni Beach for the first time, I’d already seen photos of the absolute chaos it can turn into with towels everywhere, people packed like sardines, so I decided to be a little smarty pants and made us go early. And honestly, that made all the difference.

We got there around 9AM. Not left the hotel at 9 AM, arrived at 9 AM. That early arrival meant we got a free parking spot on the side of the road, relatively close to the trailhead. Which is key, because there are about 30 parking spots total for what feels like a million cars. By midday, the roads are completely clogged, and getting out turns into a whole production. We, however, had a clean exit.

Now for the Porto Timoni hike, let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a casual stroll. It took us about 20 minutes, and even though it was early and not yet scorching, it still wasn’t what I’d call “easy.” Definitely wear decent shoes. But once you get down there, you’re rewarded with that classic double-bay view, white sand, and crystal-clear water. It’s beautiful, and at 9:30 AM we basically had our pick of spots.

We swam, took some photos, had a snack, did the usual beachy things. By around 11 AM, it started filling up. By 1 PM, it was chaos, towels touching towels, people everywhere. We took that as our cue to leave and get lunch somewhere less intense.

The hike back up was definitely not as charming. By now, the sun was fully blazing, and the uphill climb felt more like a mini punishment. But hey, worth it for the experience and the fact that we were already on our way out while everyone else was still circling for parking.

What to Expect at Porto Timoni Corfu

Here’s exactly what to expect and what to watch out for, when visiting Porto Timoni. It’s beautiful, yes, but you’ll want to be prepared.

The View from the Top:
From the trailhead, the view is incredible. Two turquoise bays, white sand, and crystal-clear water. If you’ve seen pictures of Porto Timoni online, this is where they were taken. Definitely stop here before the hike down.

The Hike:
It’s about 20 minutes down to the beach and yes, it’s a real hike. Not a casual stroll. It’s manageable in the morning when it’s cooler, but the way back up in the midday sun can be brutal. Wear shoes with grip and bring water.

Parking Situation:
There’s a small paid car park near the trailhead (€10), but it fills up quickly. If you’re too late, you’ll have to park along the narrow road, which is free, but can be chaotic. Arrive before 9 AM if you want an easy time.

The Beach Itself:
There are two beaches back-to-back, so you can pick your side. Both are gorgeous, with clear water and soft sand/pebbles. It’s great for swimming, lounging, and taking photos.

The Crowds:
This is the biggest downside. By 11 AM, it starts filling up. By 1 PM, it’s full-on chaos. Towels touching towels. People everywhere. If you want to enjoy it properly, get there early. Like, before-9 AM early.

Facilities:
There aren’t any. No café, no toilets, no sunbeds. It’s a wild beach, so bring everything you need like water, snacks, towels, and whatever else you’d usually overpack.

How to Get to Porto Timoni Beach

Alright, so how do you actually get to Porto Timoni Beach? There are a few ways, including public transport but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend taking the bus. It’s slow, unreliable, and you don’t want to get stranded somewhere near the trailhead with no shade and no way back.

Here are the best ways to get there (in order of what I’d actually do):

1. Rent a Car
This is hands down my top recommendation. If you’re in Corfu and want to explore, just rent a car. It’s cheap, easy, and saves you a lot of stress. I usually grab mine at the airport and keep it for the whole trip.

When driving to Porto Timoni Beach, just know the roads are narrow, and in peak season, they’re packed. People also drive like they’re in a video game, so take it slow, especially near beach areas.

2. Take a Boat from Agios Georgios Beach (or a Kayak)
Don’t feel like hiking down in the heat? Totally fair. You can head to Agios Georgios Beach (right around the corner from Porto Timoni) and rent a small boat without a license. Just hop in and drive yourself to the beach.

It’s a pretty popular option, especially during the hot months. The downside is you miss the Porto Timoni viewpoint on top of the cliffs, but your knees will thank you.

There is also the option of taking a Taxi Boat, which will drop you off at the beach and pick you back up later.

3. Book a Tour
There are plenty of tours in Corfu that include Porto Timoni Beach. Some are private boat charters, others are full-day excursions that hit a few different spots. If you go this route, I’d personally recommend a private boat tour, that way you can control how long you stay and avoid being herded around like a cruise passenger.

What to Bring & Tips for Visiting Porto Timoni Beach

Explore a Bit Further:
If you keep hiking past the twin beaches, there’s a small chapel hidden away on the cliffside (a little creepy, not gonna lie), and another beach nearby literally called “Beach near Porto Timoni” on Google Maps. It’s usually way quieter than Porto Timoni Beach.

Proper Shoes:
You’ll be hiking down a rocky, sometimes slippery trail. Flip-flops are a one-way ticket to a rolled ankle. Wear actual shoes. Thank me later.

Water (and Lots of It):
The hike back up in the midday heat is no joke. Bring more water than you think you need. Dehydration here hits fast.

Arrive Early:
Like, actually early. Aim to be parked by 8:30 AM if you want space on the beach and a parking spot that doesn’t require a 2km walk.

Beach Towel or Mat:
There’s no sunbeds or beach bars here, it’s a wild beach. Bring something to sit on.

Snacks or a Small Picnic:
There’s no food or drinks for sale once you’re down there, so pack snacks or a light lunch. Just don’t forget to carry out your trash.

Mask & Snorkel (Optional but Worth It):
The water is insanely clear and calm, perfect for a bit of DIY snorkeling. You’ll probably spot fish even in the shallow areas.

Sunscreen & Hat:
Shade is minimal to non-existent, especially as the sun moves. Unless you plan on becoming a rotisserie chicken, cover up.

Cash (Just in Case):
If you park in one of the paid lots or want to rent a boat nearby, it’s good to have some cash on you. Don’t rely on card machines in remote spots.

Is Porto Timoni Beach Worth Visiting? My Final Thoughts

100% yes, no question about it. It’s the prettiest beach in Corfu. The water is crystal clear with that perfect Mediterranean blue, the view from above is insane, and being down there is even better. I genuinely love everything about it.

Now, I know I’ve listed a bunch of things to watch out for and yes, it gets crowded, and yes, the hike can be sweaty but that’s just me being honest with you. It’s still totally worth it.

If you take my advice and go early, you’ll have a great time. I wouldn’t plan on spending your whole day there, though. Come in the morning, stay for 2–3 hours, then head somewhere else. Agios Georgios Beach is just around the corner with a wide stretch of sand and lots of places for lunch. Or go for a dip at La Grotta Bar, super cool vibes or even Rovinia Beach, which is another one of my favorites (yes, there’s a hike again, but it’s less crowded and just as beautiful).
