What to Eat in Fredericksburg?
If you’re heading to Fredericksburg, you probably already know it’s a German town. This area of Texas has a ton of German influences, which I (Oliver, born and raised in Germany) found super entertaining to see. There are German signs and restaurant names everywhere, thanks to the settlers who came here almost 200 years ago.
The number one thing you HAVE to try when visiting Fredericksburg is Kolache. Okay, technically not German—it’s actually Czech—but you’ll find them in every bakery here. Kolache are baked goods, kind of like a bigger version of pigs in a blanket, and they’re so good.
Another favorite of mine is Jägerschnitzel. It’s a breaded cutlet with mushroom gravy, and yes, it’s 100% truly German (approved by me!).
Oh, and if you’re feeling adventurous, try the Rouladen! We got ours at Auslander in Fredericksburg, and honestly, they were super authentic and delicious.

Our 3 Favorite Restaurants in Fredericksburg
Auslander Fredericksburg – Authentic German Cuisine
When it comes to German food in Fredericksburg, Auslander is a must-visit. The name translates to “foreigner,” and this restaurant delivers an experience that feels straight out of Germany. From the authentic décor to the traditional dishes from Bavaria, it’s a true taste of German culture.
We tried the Rouladen, Jägerschnitzel, a pretzel, and, of course, some beers. Everything was absolutely delicious. If you’re looking to enjoy authentic German food, this is my top recommendation.

Hondo’s on Main St – Best Mexican Food
One of my favorite non-German spots in Fredericksburg has to be Hondo’s on Main St. I’ve been there a few times now, and it’s a solid choice for lunch or dinner. The outdoor seating is awesome—perfect for families or just hanging out with some beers and sunshine. Inside, it’s all about live music and drinks at the bar.
For lunch, I had the Reuben, and honestly, it’s probably the best I’ve ever had. The pastrami was incredible, the sauerkraut was super flavorful, and the portion was huge.
For dinner, I usually go for their Mexican dishes. The enchiladasand their queso are a must-try—made with fresh ingredients and served with rice and beans.
If you’re in town on a Saturday or Sunday, definitely swing by for some great live music!

Pontoc Vineyard Weingarten – Best Place for Drinks
After all that delicious food, it’s time for some drinks. For that, I highly recommend Pontoc Vineyard Weingarten. This winery has an incredible outdoor seating area with a beautiful courtyard, fire pits, and a very cozy atmosphere overall.
They have a wide selection of wines to choose from, including reds, whites, and rosés. They also offer cheese plates to pair with your wine.
The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about each wine they serve. If you’re not sure which one to try, they are more than happy to give recommendations based on your preferences.

Best German Restaurants in Fredericksburg, Texas
Otto’s German Bistro (Best Place for German Food)
Some of the best German food I’ve had in Fredericksburg is definitely at Otto’s German Bistro. Heads up, this place leans more toward fine dining, so it’s a little pricier—but totally worth it.
Carae and I tried the duck and scallops, and both were absolutely delicious. I also saw a lot of people enjoying the sausage platter, which gave me a little food envy!
For dessert, do yourself a favor and order the homemade cheesecake—it’s seriously so good.

Old German Bakery & Restaurant
Another top spot for German food is the Old German Bakery & Restaurant. This place has been around since 1982 and is a local favorite.
Their menu features classic German dishes like schnitzel, bratwurst, and sauerbraten. But what makes this place stand out is their bakery items—specifically the pastries and breads. They have some great kolaches, which I can totally recommend, but they also have loads of sweet German danishes.
So, if you have a sweet tooth, make sure to save some room for dessert here!

Best Restaurants in Fredericksburg for Coffee & Brunch
Kaffee Haus
If you’re anything like me and can’t resist a good espresso drink—flat whites, lattes, cappuccinos—you’re going to love this spot! It’s the cutest little café with super talented baristas making what I honestly think is the best coffee in town. The whole vibe reminded me so much of Australia, where coffee culture is basically a way of life.
They also serve homemade cookies and banana bread, making this my go-to spot for a quick coffee break and a little snack.

Sunday Supply
Sunday Supply has a similar vibe to Kaffee Haus but with the added bonus of some delicious baked goods. We had a slice of banana bread and a berry Danish, and the flavors were just so good.
What really sets this place apart is its outdoor patio area. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely brunch with your friends on a sunny day. You can even put together your own picnic basket, take it to the nearby park, and have a picnic.
They even have gluten free options!

When it comes to finding a good and budget-friendly lunch spot, Longhorn Street Cafe is definitely the place to go. The food here is simple but so tasty because it’s all homemade.

West End Pizza (Best Place to Watch Sports)
The best spot to watch any type of game, whether it’s NFL, NBA, or baseball. They have a large outdoor patio with multiple TVs. The pizza and other snacks here are decent, and the beers are cold.
We went here for lunch, and to be honest, the food is not life-changing, but if you want to sit outside, relax, and watch the game, this is the best spot.

Best Dinner Spots in Fredericksburg
Cabernet Grill Texas Wine Country Restaurant
If you’re looking for the best dinner spot in town (at least in my opinion), you have to check out Cabernet Grill. The location is a little outside of town, but trust me, it’s worth the short drive.
First off, the property is absolutely gorgeous. It’s set in an old Texas winery, and the vibe is just perfect—rustic, charming, and totally Instagram-worthy. The outdoor seating area is stunning, especially in the evening.
Now, let’s talk food! The menu leans a bit upscale, but the steaks are out of this world. And the wine? Even better. They specialize in local Texas wines, which pair perfectly with the dishes.
I recommend making reservations; otherwise, you might not get a table.

V Supper Club at Vaudeville
Vaudeville Living is a boutique store in Fredericksburg specializing in décor, home goods, and high-quality foods. They have recently introduced V Supper Club, an elegant dining experience located within the store. The menu changes frequently, showcasing seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce.
The supper club takes place every Thursday and, last year, guests could choose between French, Italian, or Japanese-inspired experiences. Each evening featured a five-course meal showcasing flavors from these incredible cuisines.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to experience it ourselves, as reservations are required. However, we spoke to other guests, and they said it was incredible!
