Top 14 Spring Break Destinations for Families in 2025

Spring is the perfect time to hit pause and plan a family getaway. Whether it’s lounging on sunny beaches, having a blast at Florida’s theme parks, having desert adventures in Utah’s national parks, or delving into America’s rich history and culture, there are so many amazing options for a spring break adventure. Honestly, the choices are endless—it can feel a bit overwhelming (in the best way possible)!

As someone who grew up in Texas, Carae spent countless family trips exploring destinations across the U.S. (and even a few international spring break destinations). Inspired by her experiences and my own love for travel, I’ve always had a soft spot for discovering places that are fun for everyone. That’s why I couldn’t wait to put together this list of my favorite spring break destinations for families in 2025.

Spring Break Destinations for Families in the USA

Spring break is the perfect time to explore all the amazing places right here in the good ol’ US of A! There’s no need to go far—this country has endless cool destinations to discover. Whether you’re hitting the road in your car, packing up the RV, or catching a budget-friendly flight, the options are endless.

Fly over the Grand Canyon in a helicopter , go whale watching along the beautiful San Diego coast, or dive into natural history at the free museums in Washington, DC.

So why not skip the passport stress and make this spring break an adventure closer to home?

1. National Parks for Spring Break – Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, & Red Rock Canyon

One thing the US absolutely nails is its national parks—there are so many, and they’re absolutely stunning. If you’re craving some fresh air, warm weather, and fun hiking trails this spring, it’s time to hit up some of the best parks around.

Some of my all-time favorites, especially if you love the outdoors, are Zion National Park , Bryce Canyon National Park, the Grand Canyon, and Red Rock Canyon. The best part is that They’re all in the same region. You can pick just one or two if you’re short on time, or go all out with a big road trip to explore them all.

Most of these national parks have hikes for everyone—from easy, kid friendly hikes to more challenging adventures (yes, I’m looking at you, Angels Landing in Zion!). There’s something amazing about walking through Bryce’s hoodoos or standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon. And don’t worry—Zion isn’t just for adrenaline junkies. There are plenty of laid-back trails perfect for kids and families too.

2. San Diego – Beach Fun for the Whole Family

Looking for a laid-back spring break getaway? San Diego is calling your name! With so many gorgeous beaches to choose from, you’ll have no trouble soaking up the sun and enjoying that picture-perfect Southern California weather.

Mission Beach and Pacific Beach are two of my favorite spots. They have cute boardwalks lined with shops and restaurants, plus calm waters perfect for swimming with the kids.

Another go-to is La Jolla Cove. You’ll find seals and sea lions hanging out in the cove, making it a must-see for animal lovers.

But San Diego isn’t just about the beaches (though that’s reason enough to go). Balboa Park is a total beauty—wander through its beautiful gardens, explore the museums, or say hello to the animals at the famous San Diego Zoo. And while I’m not the biggest fan of Sea World, I’d absolutely recommend a whale-watching tour instead, where you can see those gentle giants in the wild.

3. Texas Hill Country – San Antonio, Fredericksburg & Austin

If you’re ready to explore a completely different side of Texas, you’ve got to check out the Hill Country. This region is all about charming German towns, delicious food, rich culture, and incredible wine.

For families (or anyone, really), there’s no shortage of fun here. In San Antonio, you can’t miss the iconic Alamo, and a riverboat tour along the San Antonio River is a fantastic way to see the city.

Over in Fredericksburg, it’s fascinating to experience the culture, architecture, and, of course, the food that German settlers brought to Texas over a hundred years ago.

And then there’s Austin—oh, Austin. Live country music everywhere (seriously, it’s the live music capital of the world for a reason), an amazing arts scene, and food that’s absolutely unforgettable. If you’re a BBQ fan, you HAVE to try Terry Black’s BBQ!

4.Myrtle Beach – Family Vacation in South Carolina

A classic spring break trip for the entire family is a visit to Myrtle Beach. This South Carolina beach town has been a popular destination for decades, and it’s easy to see why.

The beach here is wide and sandy, perfect for building sandcastles or playing a game of beach volleyball. And when you need a break from the sun, there are plenty of amusement parks and water parks to keep everyone entertained.

One must-do activity in Myrtle Beach is visiting the famous Broadway at the Beach complex, where you can find everything from shopping and dining options to attractions like Ripley’s Aquarium and WonderWorks (a hands-on science museum).

5.Great Smokey Mountains, Tennessee – Hiking & Family Outdoor Activities

Our favorite outdoor adventure in the U.S. is a spring break trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.

For nature lovers who aren’t necessarily looking for the scorching temperatures of Utah or Arizona, the Great Smoky Mountains are a perfect alternative. The kids loved the activities here — from kid-friendly hikes through the woods to seeing waterfalls, spotting wild deer, horseback riding, and camping outdoors. It’s easily one of the most family-friendly destinations, in my opinion.

Carae and I especially enjoyed visiting the local hot springs after a long day of exploring!

We’ve visited multiple times and usually mix our stays between B&Bs and camping. Our favorite campsite is the Smokemont Campground, and our favorite hotel is the Historic Rocky Waters Inn, located in Downtown Gatlinburg right on the river.

One of the best activities in the area is taking the Aerial Tramway (Gondola Ride) up to Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park.

6. Key West, Florida – White Sand Beaches & Caribbean Vibes

Key West, Florida, might be a bit on the pricier side for a spring break getaway, but it’s worth every single penny!

With warm weather year-round, crystal-clear waters, and dreamy Caribbean vibes, Key West feels like the perfect spring break vacation. In my personal opinion, the Florida Keys are one of the most breathtaking areas in the entire U.S. It’s like being on a Caribbean island without needing a passport.

There are family-friendly beaches, plenty of outdoor adventures, and I loved the colorful houses surrounded by swaying palm trees—they’re straight out of a postcard. So warm and inviting, I could stay there all day long. While I’m soaking up the sun, it’s easy to keep the kids busy playing mini-golf or grabbing some ice cream. It’s just great for the whole family!

7. Orlando, Florida – Disney, Universal Studios & Kennedy Space Center

Okay, I know what you’re thinking—Orlando isn’t exactly a hidden gem. And you’re right! But honestly, it’s just so good that I couldn’t leave it off this list. We’ve been there so many times, and it never fails to deliver an amazing experience.

Orlando is one of the major East Coast cities that truly has something for everyone—whether you’re traveling with kids, friends, or on your own. Of course, the main attractions are the world-famous theme parks: Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Sea World.

But here’s the thing: Orlando isn’t just about the parks! If you need a break from rollercoaster thrills, behind-the-scenes tours, and Mickey Mouse sightings, there’s so much more to explore. The Kennedy Space Center is absolutely fascinating (and kids love it!), while Gatorland is a quirky, fun spot where you can get up close with some scaly friends.

8. Washington DC – History, Museums & Cherry Blossoms

If you’ve never been to Washington, DC, it’s a must-visit at least once in your life. The city is rich in history, filled with incredible museums, and offers endless opportunities to explore. While politics might be the first thing that comes to mind, there’s so much more to love about the U.S. capital.

One of the best times to visit is during the Cherry Blossom Festival, when the entire city transforms into a breathtaking sea of pink and white blossoms. Strolling through the National Mall during this time is unforgettable, with iconic landmarks like the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial framed by blooming trees.

But don’t worry if you can’t make it during cherry blossom season—DC is amazing year-round. The Smithsonian museums are a definite highlight, and the best part? They’re free! You can explore everything from art to space exploration without spending a dime. I also highly recommend taking a tour of the White House, but make sure to book your tickets well in advance!

9.Savannah, Georgia – Southern Charm & Family-Friendly Activities

If you’re looking for a charming, family-friendly vacation spot, Savannah should be at the top of your list. This southern city is renowned for its warm hospitality, historic district, and mouthwatering cuisine. Overall, it’s an incredibly family friendly city.

Take a stroll through the cobblestone streets of the Historic District, where you can admire stunning architecture and lush, green squares. I suggest taking a trolley tour if you don’t feel like walking all day.

Savannah isn’t just enjoyable for adults—families will love it too! The Children’s Museum of Savannah features interactive exhibits that are both educational and entertaining. If your kids are animal lovers, head to the Oatland Island Wildlife Center to explore and learn about a variety of native wildlife species.

10.Anna Maria Island, Florida – Secluded Beach Getaway for the whole family

One of my absolute favorite little beach towns in the USA has to be Anna Maria Island in Florida! Everyone probably has their own idea of what makes a great beach town, but for me, it’s all about that laid-back vibe. A place where you can walk or bike everywhere, with just a handful of charming shops and great restaurants, and, of course, stunning beaches. That’s Anna Maria Island!

On Anna Maria Island, the kids can ride bikes straight to the beach—it’s that kind of place! You can stay in one of the adorable boutique hotels, enjoy delicious meals at local restaurants, and spend your days relaxing on the soft, white sand beaches.

If you’re looking for a spring break destination that’s peaceful, beautiful, and full of charm, this is it. I honestly can’t recommend Anna Maria Island enough.

11.Honolulu, Hawaii – Waikiki Beach & Family Fun

When it comes to beach vacations, you can’t go wrong with Hawaii. And the most popular destination in Hawaii is undoubtedly Honolulu, home to the famous Waikiki Beach.

But Honolulu isn’t just about soaking up the sun on a beautiful beach (although that’s definitely a big part of it). Families can also enjoy activities like snorkeling, dolphin watching tours, and visiting cultural sites such as Pearl Harbor.

Plus, Honolulu has a great selection of family-friendly resorts and hotels that offer something for everyone. From kids’ clubs and pools with waterslides to spa facilities and romantic dinners for parents, you’ll find it all in this tropical paradise.

12.Hilton Head Island, South Carolina – Boat Tours & Historic Sites

Hilton Head Island is a beautiful and serene destination where families can relax and reconnect with nature. With miles of pristine beaches and a variety of outdoor activities, it’s no surprise that this is one of the top family vacation spots in the US.

A popular activity for both kids and adults is taking a boat tour around the island. You’ll get an up-close look at local wildlife, including dolphins, sea turtles, and even alligators! For those interested in history, there are also tours to explore historic sites such as Fort Pulaski National Monument or the Penn Center, one of the first schools for freed slaves.

International Spring Break Ideas

While a spring break trip within the USA might be more convenient, some of you may be craving an international adventure. My top two recommendations for that are, without a doubt, Costa Rica and Mexico. These destinations offer everything you could want for a stress-free spring break. Most people speak English, there are fantastic family-friendly resorts, and the infrastructure makes traveling easy and enjoyable.

13.Costa Rica – Adventure & Nature for the Whole Family

If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure overseas, let me point you straight to Costa Rica. I spent over a month in this stunning country, and I think it’s the perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

You’ll find amazing beaches and surfing spots on the Pacific coast, particularly in Santa Teresa and Tamarindo. Beyond that, you can explore some of the most breathtaking national parks I’ve ever seen, including Manuel Antonio and Monteverde.

The highlight, especially for kids, is the chance to hike and zip-line through the cloud forests. These rainforests are packed with waterfalls, hiking trails, and endless adventure activities.

14. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Family-Friendly Resorts & Warm Spring Weather

If you’re looking for a laid-back getaway, Puerto Vallarta is the place to be. This stunning resort town in Mexico has it all—gorgeous beaches, amazing weather, and a vibe that’s all about relaxation.

It’s the perfect spot for families, with plenty of all-inclusive resorts that make life easy. Many even offer kids’ clubs and fun activities to keep the little ones entertained, so you can kick back by the pool with a margarita in hand.

If you’re after something a bit more authentic and less resort-focused, head to nearby Sayulita—my favorite spot in all of Mexico! Just a short drive up the coast, Sayulita is a charming traditional village with colorful streets, artisan shops, and incredible street food.
