Noosa was one of my favorite stops on our East Coast road trip through Australia. It had everything I love in a destination: beautiful beaches, scenic coastal walks, local markets, and a relaxed small-town atmosphere that makes it so easy to slow down and enjoy.
We spent a few days exploring the area and managed to check off a lot of what was on our list, though there are still a few things I wish we’d had time for. If you’re planning a trip to this amazing tourism destination, this guide covers 18 of the best things to do in Noosa, from nature and beaches to local coffee and day trips. It’s a great starting point to help you make the most of your time on this incredible stretch of coastline.

Things to Do in Noosa Queensland Australia – My Experience
Quickly, before I dive in, I just want to give you a bit of a raw picture of what a couple of days in Noosa can actually look like, just to help set your expectations. While this is quite a long list, you don’t need endless days to tick everything off, unless you’re planning a trip to K’gari, which is more of a full-day commitment.
What I found during our time in Noosa is that a lot of the best things to do naturally link together. On our first day, we set out on the famous coastal walk through Noosa National Park and ended up checking off four of the beaches we wanted to visit along the way, swimming, sunbathing, and stopping at lookouts as we went. That afternoon, we wandered down Hastings Street, grabbed a coffee, and picked up a few locally made bits and pieces.
So if you’re working with a tight itinerary, don’t stress, Noosa has a way of unfolding naturally. You’ll find that one activity often leads into the next, without much planning required. Whether you’re after slow mornings and beach walks or more active adventures, this list will help you build your perfect few days in and around Noosa.

18 Fun Things to Do in Noosa QLD Australia
Here are 18 fun things to do in Noosa, including everything we managed to experience and a few I’m already planning to go back for.
1. Walk the Coastal Track in Noosa National Park
This was our very first activity in Noosa, and it set the tone for the whole trip. The coastal track runs right along the coastline with sweeping ocean views, and it’s hands down a must-do while you’re here.
We didn’t spot any koalas (they’re definitely around, but not easy to find), though we kept our eyes up just in case. Along the way, we stopped at Tea Tree Bay, Granite Bay, and Alexandria Bay, and took a break at Dolphin Point. Even without any wildlife sightings, just being out in nature made it more than worth it.
2. Swim at Little Cove
After the coastal walk, a dip at Little Cove was just what we needed. Tucked between the cliffs next to the National Park, this beach feels secluded and gentle, ideal for pulling on your bathers and relaxing in calm water. We spent an hour floating around, letting the waves lap and soaking in the sunshine. It’s small, peaceful, and far less crowded than Main Beach.

3. Take a Surf Lesson on Main Beach
Neither of us are pro surfers by any stretch, but Noosa’s Main Beach is one of the best places to give it a go. The waves here are gentle enough for beginners, and there are a few great local surf schools right along the beach.
We booked a group surf lesson and spent a couple of hours learning the basics. We both managed to stand up a few times! It was such a fun way to be in the water, and the instructors made it feel super approachable, even if you’ve never touched a board before.

4. Watch the Sunrise from Sunshine Beach
We’re not usually early risers on holiday, but one morning we set the alarm and made it to Sunshine Beach just before first light, and it ended up being one of the most peaceful moments of the trip.
The beach is quiet that early, mostly just locals out for a walk or surf. As the sun came up over the ocean, the sky turned all shades of orange and pink, and we had the whole stretch of sand almost to ourselves. If you’re only going to wake up early once, let it be for this.
5. Whale Watching (If You’re Visiting in Season)
We got super lucky with our timing as we were in Noosa right in the middle of whale season (June to November), and there were signs everywhere advertising daily tours. While we didn’t end up booking one, mainly because we had a Whitsundays Islands cruise coming up later that week, it was definitely tempting.
If you’re in town during those months and haven’t seen humpbacks before, this is an unforgettable whale watching tour and the perfect way to spend a few hours. They often breach just off the coast, and tours leave right from Noosa or nearby Mooloolaba.
6. Stroll Along Hastings Street in Noosa Heads QLD
We ended up on Hastings Street almost every day, whether it was for a morning coffee or a cheeky drink in the evening. It’s full of great cafés, boutique shops, and that easygoing beach-town energy that makes you want to linger.
We grabbed a flat white one morning and just sat in the sun for a while, then came back later for an Aperol spritz before dinner. The nightlife here is pretty mellow, but it’s a great spot to unwind after a big beach day. I also recommend staying on Hastings Street as you have the beach to one side and then all the restaurants on the other, and the atmosphere is buzzing!
7. Kayak or SUP Around the Noosa River
One of the beautiful things about being in Noosa in Queensland is how green and lush everything feels, even when you’re not deep in the rainforest. We took a break from all the salt and sand and joined a guided kayak tour on the Noosa River.
It was calm, peaceful, and a totally different way to see the area. We paddled past mangroves, spotted a few birds, and saw all the big mansions on the waterfront. It was pretty cool! This is one of the more unique things to do in Noosa!

8. Catch the Sunset at Laguna Lookout
We came up to Laguna Lookout one evening before dinner, and it was such an easy, worthwhile stop. It’s a short drive from town with parking right at the top, and the view looks out over the river, the ocean, and the surrounding hills.
The timing was perfect, sunset hit just as we got there, and we had a clear view of the whole coastline. It’s a great way to wrap up the day, especially if you’re already nearby or heading out for dinner after.
9. Spend an Afternoon in Noosaville
We didn’t end up making it to Noosaville during our trip, mostly because we were based in Noosa Heads and had plenty to keep us busy there. But it’s definitely on the list for next time.
The area is known for its relaxed riverfront vibe, local cafes, and a slower pace compared to the main beach strip. You can rent a BBQ boat, take a walk along the foreshore, or just settle in for a long lunch by the water. If you have an extra day to explore, it’s worth branching out beyond the main hub.
10. Cruise Through the Noosa Everglades
This was one we also didn’t get the chance to do, but it’s high on my list for next time. The Noosa Everglades are one of only two everglade systems in the world, and everything I’ve heard about them has been glowing.
You can explore by kayak or hop on a guided eco-cruise through the calm, mirrored waterways surrounded by lush greenery. Some tours even include a glass of champagne or locally brewed beer, which adds a nice touch. It’s a great way to learn more about the region, its history, and support local businesses while you’re at it.

11. Wander the Noosa Farmers Market (Sundays)
We always try to visit a local market when we travel, and the Noosa Farmers Market did not disappoint. It’s held every Sunday morning and has a great mix of fresh produce, handmade goods, and ready-to-eat bites. We picked up fresh fruit for beach snacks and couldn’t resist grabbing a few pastries and locally roasted coffee.
The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, with live music playing and locals catching up over breakfast. It’s a great way to start a Sunday and support small local producers at the same time.
12. Take a Peek at Alexandria Bay
We didn’t actually go down to Alexandria Bay, mainly because we were traveling with my parents and, well, it’s a designated nude beach. But we did spot it from above while walking the coastal track, and to be fair, it looked absolutely stunning.
The bay is tucked between cliffs with golden sand and bright blue water, and it’s a bit more remote than the other beaches in the area. That said, in my opinion, there are better beaches nearby, with beautiful views and without naked strangers.
13. Spend a Morning at Peregian Beach
If you’re over Hastings Street and the parking chaos, I highly recommend making your way down to Peregian Beach for a slower, easier morning. We had a delicious brunch and coffee at Skal (would go back just for that), then wandered straight onto the beach. It’s a great spot for longboard surfers, and while beginners can definitely give it a go, it’s a bit trickier than Main Beach. The town itself is small and relaxed, with a much more local feel which is ideal if you want a break from the buzz.

Best Road Trips from Noosa
Before we wrap up, I wanted to include a few things to do just outside of Noosa. If you’ve got a bit more time or a car to explore, there are some really great spots nearby that are well worth the drive. From quiet hinterland towns to dramatic coastlines, here are a few easy day trips to mix things up.
14. Browse the Eumundi Markets
If your visit lines up with a Wednesday or Saturday morning, the Eumundi Markets are such a fun way to spend a few hours. It’s about a 20-minute drive from Noosa and packed with local stalls, everything from handmade jewellery and art to clothes, skincare, and street food.
Personally, I think this is one of the best markets I’ve been to in Australia and one of our close friends from the sunshine coast has a stall there, Botanic Arcana, where she sells amazing homemade candles and bath salts, you have to check them out when you go! It’s a little more laid-back and eclectic than the markets in town. Go early for fewer crowds and a better chance at finding parking or book this Eumundi Markets tour with transfer to make your like 100% easier!
15. Hike Up Mount Tinbeerwah
If you want a bit of a view without committing to a full hike, Mount Tinbeerwah is the move. It’s only a 10–15 minute walk to the top, and the views are incredible with panoramic coastline on one side, green hinterland on the other. We weren’t able to do this hike as it’s about 25 minutes from Noosa Junction and we just didn’t have the time. But if you’re looking for ways to get in some exercise, this is a great little sidequest!
16. Explore the Noosa Hinterland Towns
Cooroy, Pomona, Montville are tiny towns are full of character and surrounded by beautiful countryside. We actually ended up staying in Montville for two nights in one of the coolest eco stays I’ve ever been to! It was such a laid back couple of days with good wine and nature.
Expect cute cafes, random antique finds, and plenty of greenery. If you’re into slower travel moments or just want to see a different side of the region, the hinterland has plenty to offer and there are loads of great noosa accommodation if you want to stay longer. You can also enjoy an awesome wine tour from Noosa into the Hinterland towns!
17. Visit Rainbow Beach
Rainbow Beach was one of the prettiest stops we made on our road trip. The coloured sand cliffs are super unique and the beach stretches for miles. Even if you’re not into 4WD adventures, it’s still worth the trip for the views alone. We didn’t spend the night, but it made for a great stop on the way to K’gari (Fraser Island), or as its own half-day trip if you’re staying in Noosa longer.
18. Explore K’gari (Fraser Island) – Overnight If You Can
K’gari ended up being one of our absolute favorite experiences from the entire trip, even though we didn’t visit from Noosa directly. Instead, we rented a 4WD from Hervey Bay (just a bit further north) and spent two nights on the island and I’m so glad we did.
Personally, I’d really recommend staying overnight or at least booking a guided tour. There’s so much to see like Lake McKenzie, the Champagne Pools, Eli Creek, and even though the island isn’t massive, the tides dictate when you can safely drive along the beach. Trying to squeeze it all into one day is doable, but staying longer gives you a lot more flexibility and time to actually enjoy each spot.
