Where to Stay in Anna Maria Island, Florida (TOP Places + Amazing Hotels in 2025)
Anna Maria Island might just be the coolest beach paradise in the United States! With its stunning white sand beaches, charming Old Florida-style beach houses, delicious seafood, and the amazing perk of not needing a car, it’s a total dream destination.
When I first visited Anna Maria Island in 2019, I was hooked. One of the things I loved most is that you can walk just about everywhere. Want to head to the beach? It’s just a stroll away. Craving breakfast or a coffee? The cutest little coffee shop is probably right down the road. That walkable vibe gives the whole island this relaxed, small-town beach community feel, and honestly, it’s such a refreshing change. It reminded me of the laid-back charm you’d find in the Caribbean, but hey, it’s right here in Florida—and I think that’s pretty awesome!
Even though Anna Maria Island is small, it’s long and skinny, which means choosing where to stay is a bit of a thing. You’ll want to make sure you’re in the right spot to make the most of your trip.
So, let’s dive into my recommendations for where to stay in Anna Maria Island.
How to Get to Anna Maria Island
Getting to Anna Maria Island is simple and stress-free. If you’re not driving from nearby, you’ll likely need to fly. There are two main airport options: Sarasota Bradenton International Airport and Tampa International Airport.
Sarasota Bradenton International is just 30 minutes from Anna Maria Island, making it the closest option. You can easily grab an Uber to the island, but keep in mind that it’s a smaller airport and flights here are often more expensive.
Tampa International Airport is a more budget-friendly choice and only about an hour’s drive from the island. As a larger airport, it offers a wide range of airlines and plenty of car rental options, giving you more flexibility for your trip.
We usually fly into Tampa International Airport and then either rent a car or book one of the shuttle services that take you to Anna Maria Island.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Anna Maria Island ?
The best time to visit Anna Maria Island is from April through November when the weather is warm and sunny. However, this also coincides with peak tourist season, so you can expect larger crowds and higher prices during this time.
If you want to beat the crowds and save some money, consider visiting in December through March. While temperatures may be cooler (by Florida standards), the island still sees plenty of sunshine.
We often visit in November or December just because it’s way less busy but still great for the beach.

Anna Maria Island Neighborhood Guide – Best Places to Stay on Anna Maria Island
Anna Maria Island, located on Florida’s Gulf Coast, is a gem filled with beautiful beaches, great food, and luxurious accommodations. The island is small and narrow, so choosing the right neighborhood to stay in can really make a difference.
The island is divided into three main communities: Anna Maria City, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach. All three are fantastic, but we usually stay in the North Beach Village area, which is part of Anna Maria City. It’s quiet, charming, and super convenient.
Getting around the island is easy. The simplest option? Walk! If you’re staying in a central spot like North Beach Village, you can easily reach everything you need on foot. If you want to see more of the island, rent a car or a golf cart to explore.
Anna Maria Island also offers free public transportation with the Anna Maria Island Trolley. It runs the length of the island, stopping at all the popular spots. It’s an easy, stress-free way to get around without worrying about parking or directions.
If you’re visiting Anna Maria Island for the first time and prefer walking over driving, my top recommendation is Anna Maria City.
Holmes Beach, located in the center of the island, is a great choice if you want to be in the heart of the action. It’s full of restaurants, bars with live music, and hotels offering beachfront views.
Lastly, I recommend Bradenton Beach, located at the southern end of Anna Maria Island. It’s a bit quieter, which I love, but you’ll likely need a car to explore the area if you stay here.

Anna Maria Island’s 3 Best Neighborhoods
In this next section, I’ll give you more information about the three communities/neighborhoods of Anna Maria Island. We’ll dive into what the areas are like, a few things to do, and I’ll also share some of my favorite hotel recommendations.

The north end of Anna Maria Island, known as Anna Maria (City), is a laid-back, charming area filled with stunning beaches, quaint streets and alleyways, swaying palm trees, and classic Old Florida-style beach cottages and homes.
It’s my favorite spot on the island, which is why I highly recommend staying here if it’s your first visit.
At the heart of the area is Pine Avenue, a delightful high street with cozy coffee shops, great restaurants, and unique boutique stores. Everything is conveniently within walking distance—from the beach to the northern tip of the island.
If you’re in the mood to explore further, simply hop on the trolley and head south to see more of what the island has to offer.
Batemans – Best Vacation Rentals for Families
This is my top recommendation for a large family or a big group of friends. We stayed here one year with the whole family, and it was so much fun. For a start, the house is stunning with an outdoor pool, but it also has a dock, sun terrace, foosball table, and loads of other activities.

Holmes Beach – The Best place to Stay For Families & Exploring
Holmes Beach is right in the middle of Anna Maria Island. I’ve only stayed here once, but I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely busier and louder than other areas, but that also means there’s more to do.
The beach here, Manatee Public Beach, gets super crowded during high season, but I totally get why. It’s a white sand beach with plenty of space and crystal-clear water. There are showers, restrooms, and changing rooms, and just behind the beach, you’ll find loads of shops and restaurants. If you’re traveling with family, it’s a great spot because it has everything you need.
In the town center, there are tons of restaurants and bars, and some of them are my absolute favorites. The Ugly Grouper is my go-to for a post-beach lunch, a cold beer, and live music.
