Where to Stay in Busan: My First Timers Guide with the Best Hotels & Areas (2026) 

Deciding where to stay in Busan can feel a little overwhelming at first. The city is pretty spread out, with beaches, neighborhoods, markets, and coastal walks all sitting in completely different areas. Picking the right base can make a huge difference in how easy your trip feels.

When I was planning my own stay in Busan, I quickly realized you can’t really be close to everything. Some areas are better for nightlife and restaurants, while others are perfect if you want to wake up right by the beach. The good news is that the city has a great metro system and affordable taxis, so getting around is still pretty easy.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best areas to stay in Busan depending on the type of trip you want to have, whether that’s beach days, nightlife, great food, or easy access to the city’s top sights.

Where to Stay in Busan – My Short Answer & Experience

When I was visiting Busan, I wanted to see and do a little bit of everything. It was November when I went, which meant the beach areas were much quieter, and I didn’t really feel the need to stay right by the water. Because of that, I ended up booking a hotel in Seomyeon, and honestly it worked out perfectly. We came in from Seoul, and it was the easiest area to get to from Busan station.

The neighborhood felt super central and was only a short walk from the metro, which made getting around the city really easy. It was also close to some of the best restaurants we ate at during the trip, and we loved wandering the nearby markets at night. Most of the places we wanted to visit were about a 30-minute public transport ride away, which ended up being totally manageable. The only downside was that we couldn’t really pop back to the hotel midday. Once we were out exploring, we were pretty much out for the day.

So my quick answer for where to stay in Busan is this: if you’re visiting mainly for sightseeing and it’s not beach weather, then Seomyeon is one of the best areas to stay. It’s central, lively, and makes getting around the city much easier.

Now if you’re visiting during the summer and want more of that holiday beach vibe, I’d recommend staying near Haeundae Beach. It’s a little farther from some of the main sights, but if you plan one day trip over to Gamcheon Culture Village, most of the other coastal attractions are only about 10–30 minutes away. Plus you’ll have easy access to the beach, great cafes, and plenty of fresh seafood restaurants right by the water. If I visited Busan in the summer, this is probably where I would stay.

Seomyeon – This is the most central place to stay in Busan and honestly one of the easiest bases if you’re planning to explore a lot. The area is packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, and street food, plus it has one of the biggest metro hubs in the city. It’s not near the beach, but it makes getting everywhere else way more convenient.

Haeundae Beach – If you’re visiting Busan for that classic beach city vibe, this is the place. You’ve got a long sandy beach, oceanfront cafes, seafood restaurants, and plenty of nightlife right by the water. It’s a little farther from some of the big sights, but if you’re traveling in summer and want beach days mixed with exploring, it’s hard to beat.

Nampo-dong – This is one of the older parts of Busan and a great area if you want markets, street food, and easy access to some of the city’s most famous spots. You’ll be right near Jagalchi Fish Market and close to Gamcheon Culture Village, so it’s a fun area for sightseeing and local food.

Gwangalli Beach – A little more relaxed than Haeundae, but still right on the water. This beach faces the famous Gwangan Bridge, which lights up at night and makes the whole area feel pretty magical. There are tons of cafes, restaurants, and rooftop bars here, so it’s a great choice if you want beach views without quite as much chaos.

There are quite a few neighborhoods you could stay in around Busan, but for a first-time visit these four areas really stand out. Each one offers something a little different, whether that’s easy sightseeing, beach access, great food, or nightlife. 

Below, I’ll break down each area and share some of the best hotels I’d recommend in each one.

Seomyeon // Best Area to Stay for a Central Location

This is where I stayed on my first visit to Busan, and honestly it ended up being the perfect base. I was only in the city for a few days and wanted to see a little bit of everything, so staying somewhere central made a huge difference. Seomyeon sits right in the middle of Busan, which meant most of the places I wanted to visit were about a 20–30 minute ride away.

What I loved most about this area was how much was happening right outside the hotel. There are endless restaurants, bars, cafes, and street food spots, plus the metro hub here makes getting around the city really easy.

It felt lively without feeling overly touristy, and some of our favorite meals in Busan ended up being right in this neighborhood. If you’re visiting mainly to explore the best of Busan and don’t need to be right by the beach, Seomyeon is a really solid place to stay.

Best Hotels in Seomyeon

$$$ Lotte Hotel Busan — One of the most iconic places to stay in Seomyeon and honestly a fantastic choice if you want a full-service, luxury hotel in the middle of the city. It’s a huge 5-star property with great amenities like pools, a spa, multiple restaurants, and super spacious rooms, plus it’s right by the metro and tons of restaurants. If you want comfort, convenience, and a bit of that classic luxury hotel experience while exploring Busan, this one is hard to beat.

$$ Cozy Tree Hotel — This is actually where we stayed, and it ended up being such a great find. The rooms are modern, super clean, and the location is fantastic for exploring Seomyeon with tons of restaurants and the subway station just a short walk away. It’s a really solid value if you want something comfortable and well-located without paying luxury hotel prices.

$ Lion Hotel — Easily one of the best budget hotel stays in Busan if you’re trying to keep costs low without sacrificing comfort. The rooms are surprisingly spacious and it’s just a short walk from the Seomyeon metro and tons of restaurants, which makes it a super convenient base for exploring the city. If you’re traveling on a budget, this is honestly one of the best value hotels you’ll find in Busan.

Haeundae Beach // Best Area to Stay Near the Beach

This is where I would absolutely stay for a beach holiday in Busan. If your vision of Busan involves beach walks, oceanfront cafes, and ending the day with seafood and sunset views, this area really delivers. The beach itself is huge with soft sand, a long boardwalk, and tons of restaurants and coffee spots right by the water.

Another thing I like about this area is how close it is to some of the big sights nearby. You’re only a short drive from the beautiful Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, and you also have easy access to the coastal paths around Haeundae Blue Line Park and the famous sky capsules. So even though it feels like a beach getaway, you’re still close to some of Busan’s best experiences.

One thing to keep in mind though is that during the summer this area gets really popular, and hotels can book up quickly. If you’re planning a summer trip, I definitely wouldn’t wait too long to reserve a place here because prices climb fast once the beach season kicks off.

It sits right by Haeundae Beach with beautiful ocean views, stylish modern rooms, and resort-style amenities like pools, a spa, and multiple restaurants. I am dreaming of staying here.

It sits on the top floor with wide open views of the ocean and Haeundae Beach, and it’s the kind of place you’ll want to hang out for sunset with a drink in hand. It’s also a really solid mid-range option, making it perfect if you want a stylish beach stay without splurging on a full luxury resort.

Nampo-Dong // Best Area to Stay for Solo Travelers

If you’re really hoping to experience a more traditional Korean side of Busan, this is a great area to stay. Nampo-dong feels busy, local, and full of character, with street food stalls, markets, and tons of little restaurants packed into the neighborhood.

We came here one night while exploring the area and honestly I remember thinking it would be a really fun place to stay. It’s right next to BIFF Square and within walking distance of the famous Jagalchi Fish Market, so you’re surrounded by some of the best food spots in the city. It’s also close to the colorful Gamcheon Culture Village and only a short ride from the scenic Songdo Marine Cable Car and Songdo beach.

When I was looking at hotels around here, I noticed there were quite a few really good options for the price. Because of that, I think this area would be especially great for solo travelers or anyone looking for a lively neighborhood with great food and solid value hotels.

Best Hotels in Nampo Dong

$$ Ocean2Heaven Hotel & Spa — A really great option in Nampo-dong if you want ocean views while still staying right in the middle of the action. You’re within walking distance of markets and food streets, but many of the rooms still have beautiful water views and spa-style bathrooms. It’s the best of both worlds if you want that coastal feel without leaving the heart of the city.

$$ Stay Gaon — A really cute boutique-style stay in the Nampo area that feels a bit more like a cozy apartment than a typical hotel. The rooms are clean, modern, and there’s even a shared lounge with beautiful harbor views, plus little perks like free snacks and drinks. It’s a great value if you want something stylish and well-located near markets and major sights.

You’re within walking distance of spots like Bupyeong Market, BIFF Square, and the seafood market, which makes it a super fun base if you want to explore the local side of the city. It’s comfortable, well-located, and a really solid value for the area.

Gwangalli Beach // Perfect Stay for a Relaxing Vacation in Busan

If you want beach views but with a slightly more relaxed vibe than Haeundae Beach, this is a really great area to stay. Gwangalli sits right along the water and looks out over the famous Gwangan Bridge, which lights up at night and honestly makes the whole area feel pretty special.

I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere here. It wasn’t too busy but still had enough going on… and that was in the fall, so I can’t even imagine how vibey it is in the summer.

The beach has a long stretch of sand, but what really stood out to me were all the cafes, restaurants, and rooftop bars facing the water. It felt lively but still a little more laid back than Haeundae.

This area is a great middle ground if you want beach access while still being fairly central to the rest of the city. Plus, if you happen to be in Busan on a Saturday night, this is where the famous drone show happens over the water, which makes staying here even more fun.

Best Hotels in Gwangalli Beach

$$ After Chapter Hotel Gwanganri — A super stylish boutique stay just a couple minutes from Gwangalli Beach. The rooms have a cool, modern design and the hotel has a pool with beautiful views, making it feel a little more special than your typical mid-range stay. It’s a great pick if you want something trendy and comfortable right by the beach and close to lots of restaurants and bars.

$$ H Avenue Gwanganri Beach — A great budget-friendly stay right across from the beach in the Gwangalli Beach area. Many rooms have partial ocean views and you’re literally steps from the sand, plus close to tons of cafes, bars, and restaurants along the waterfront. It’s a really solid pick if you want that iconic Gwangan Bridge beach view.

For a first visit to Busan, I think Seomyeon is the easiest base. It’s also packed with restaurants, markets, and cafes, so there’s always something happening.

Where to stay in Busan for nightlife?

If nightlife is high on your list, Seomyeon Busan is the place to be. This area is full of bars, restaurants, late-night food spots, and clubs, and it stays lively well into the night. It still feels very local though, which makes it a fun place to experience Busan after dark.

Where to stay in Busan in winter?

In the colder months I’d recommend staying somewhere central like Seomyeon or even Nampo-dong. The beach areas are much quieter in winter, while these neighborhoods keep their energy year-round with markets, street food, and plenty of indoor places to explore.

Where should you stay in Busan near Haeundae?

If you want to be close to the beach, I recommend staying at L7 Haeundae Hotel. It’s a great value for money, with an amazing rooftop pool overlooking the ocean.

How many days in Busan is enough?

I think 2–3 days in Busan is the sweet spot for most travelers. That gives you enough time to see places like Gamcheon Culture Village, visit the temples and coastal walks, enjoy the beaches, and still have time to explore the food scene without rushing. Final Thoughts on Where to Stay in Busan

I’m already looking forward to my next trip back to Busan. Depending on the time of year, I’d probably either stay in Seomyeon again, maybe at Lotte Hotel Busan, or base myself near Haeundae Beach for that classic summer-by-the-ocean kind of trip. I’m already picturing sunset walks along the sand and slow mornings with coffee by the water.

At the end of the day, don’t stress too much about choosing where to stay. As long as you stick to one of these four areas, you’re setting yourself up for a fantastic time exploring Busan.
