Where to Stay in Jiufen Taiwan: The Best Hotels & Areas (2025)
Before going to Taiwan, I had never even heard of Jiufen. But suddenly, everyone I met kept saying, “You have to go.” So, I did.
Jiufen is an old gold mining town (hence the Gold Museum), but to be honest with you, that’s not why people go. Jiufen got famous because it supposedly inspired the movie Spirited Away. Even if you don’t care about anime, you’ve definitely seen that black ghost character floating around somewhere. The town is filled with beautiful red lanterns and old tea houses, it’s beautiful.
Most people visit Jiufen on a rushed day trip from Taipei. They show up, push through the main street, snap some photos, and leave before dinner. I decided to stay overnight and I’d absolutely do it again. Once the day-trippers clear out, the place is way more relaxed. You can actually enjoy the narrow alleyways and tea houses without constantly stepping out of someone’s photo.
In this guide on where to stay in Jiufen, I’ll tell you a bit about my own experience staying overnight, where I think you should base yourself, and which hotels are actually worth it. No endless neighborhood breakdowns, no pointless lists, just straightforward advice so you can plan your stay without overthinking it.

Where to Stay in Jiufen Taiwan – My Experience
Most people squeeze Jiufen into a quick day trip from Taipei, usually on some guided tour that includes stops at Shifen, the Golden Waterfall, and Jiufen Old Street. That’s definitely a great option for you, if you’re tight on time or don’t feel like figuring out buses. But getting there on your own is easy, I took the bus and train and had zero issues.
I stayed overnight in Jiufen, and I’d 100% do it again. I caught bus 1062 from Songshan Station in Taipei, which drops you right at Jiufen Old Street. It took about an hour, I got there around 2 pm, and was able to check in and dump my stuff immediately.
Then I headed straight out to explore the famous Jiufen Old Street and all the tiny side alleys. It was packed, and I mean shoulder-to-shoulder packed, especially near the A Mei Teahouse. I weaved through the crowds, grabbed some random street snacks, took a few photos, and eventually landed at a local restaurant with a cold beer and an incredible view.
After sunset, I wandered around a bit more and grabbed dinner at 安迪藥燉排骨, where they had great noodle soup and dumplings. By then, most of the day-trippers had cleared out. There were still a few tour groups hanging around (yep, they do night tours too), but overall it was way calmer. I finally got some decent photos without someone’s umbrella or selfie stick in the way.
The next morning, I had two options: wander the streets again (now with even fewer people) or hike Teapot Mountain. I picked the hike, and I’m so glad I did. We walked from Jiufen and it took about 30–45 minutes to reach the trailhead, then hiked up and back down. We even had time to take the bus back to Jiufen, grab our bags, and check out before heading back to Taipei. Perfect little two-day escape.

Tips & Tricks For Visiting Jiufen Taiwan
Hike Teapot Mountain early. We left our hotel at 6am, and it was 100% worth it, no crowds, no heat, and incredible views. By the time we were heading back down, the trail was already starting to fill up.
Get your photo of A Mei Teahouse before 9am or after 9pm. The crowds are brutal all day, but super early or late at night, you’ll actually get a clean shot without someone’s face or umbrella in it.
Skip the overpriced tea tasting at Jiufen Teahouse. You can walk through the building (including the art gallery downstairs) without ordering anything. Don’t feel pressured to sit down, just have a look around.
A Mei Teahouse? Up to you. Personally, I didn’t go in. I’ve heard really mixed things and decided a photo from outside was more than enough.
Eat the peanut ice cream roll. Just do it. It sounds weird, but it’s ridiculously good. I could’ve eaten five.
Don’t just stick to Jiufen Old Street. It’s chaos during the day. Wander through the smaller alleys and side streets, they’re way quieter and honestly more interesting.
Book a hotel with a view and close to Old Street. Jiufen is hilly and everything’s on stairs. You’ll thank yourself later for not hauling your luggage up a hundred steps.
The garbage truck situation is real. When you hear the bell, get out of the way. There’s no space to pass it, and you’ll just get stuck awkwardly pressed against a wall.
Public transport is easy. If you’re not doing a tour, don’t stress, getting to Jiufen on your own is simple. Bus 1062 from Songshan Station in Taipei drops you right where you need to be.

Best Places to Stay in Jiufen Taiwan
1. Jiufen Nostalgic Inn (Super Affordable Jiufen Hotel)
I stayed at Jiufen Nostalgic Inn and had a great experience. It’s a simple place, nothing fancy, but it’s cute and feels exactly how you’d imagine a hotel in Jiufen to look. The rooms and reception have traditional decor, and the whole vibe just fits.
The terrace views were incredible, and it was the perfect spot to hang out with a coffee and enjoy the views over Jiufen. The staff were great too; they looked after our bags after checkout so we could wander around a bit more before heading back to Taipei.
I’d definitely recommend this place. It’s not luxurious, but it’s cozy, feels authentic, and is affordable. Exactly what you want for a night in Jiufen.

2. Jiufen The Dragon B&B (My Favorite Hotel in Jiufen)
The Dragon B&B was another hotel in Jiufen I really wanted to stay at, but it was fully booked the night I was there. This is easily one of the best hotels in Jiufen. The decor is beautiful and traditional but still modern and super clean. The rooms are spacious, and they have a stunning restaurant and bar area with incredible views over Jiufen. There’s also a cute little outdoor terrace where you can relax and take it all in.
I loved my stay at Jiufen Nostalgic Inn, but if I had to pick the best place to stay in Jiufen, The Dragon B&B would be it. If you can get a room here, do it. It really is one of the top picks when it comes to Jiufen accommodation.

3. Twilight House (One of The Best Jiufen Hotels)
Twilight House is a great hotel in Jiufen with incredible views. I’d say it feels a bit more upscale compared to the first two options, but it’s still not crazy expensive, at least not by Taipei standards.
The rooms here are beautiful, and some even come with a private balcony overlooking all of Jiufen. If you want something a bit more special (without blowing the budget), this is a fantastic place to stay. It’s unique, cozy, and those views are hard to beat.

4.Jiufen Ore Inn (Best Boutique Hotel in Jiufen)
Jiufen Ore Inn sits right at the end of Jiufen Old Street and definitely feels the most “boutique” out of all the hotels in Jiufen. I didn’t stay here myself (it was fully booked when I checked), but I would have loved to.
It’s still fairly affordable, you can easily get a room for under $100 a night, just like most Jiufen accommodation options. The rooms here are a bit more upscale, with freestanding bathtubs and comfy beds overlooking the mountains. It’s a really tasteful, stylish place to stay in Jiufen if you want something a little more special without going overboard on price.

Absolutely. It’s touristy, yes, but also beautiful and totally worth seeing. If you can, stay overnight. But even a day trip is better than skipping it altogether.
Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in Jiufen, Taiwan
Personally, I think staying overnight in Jiufen makes the experience way better. I’m not a big fan of day trips unless there’s really no other option. Getting to Jiufen on your own is easy, and staying the night means you actually get to enjoy the quiet evenings and early mornings without the crowds.
Most tours give you about two rushed hours in town but if you stay, you get all evening and the next morning to wander empty streets, take proper photos, or go hiking.
Hotels in Jiufen are also super cute. I stayed at Jiufen Nostalgic Inn and it was cheap, clean, had beautifully decorated rooms, and an amazing view. I had a great experience there and would absolutely recommend it.
