Where to Stay in Lombok Indonesia: My Favorite Areas & Hotels 2026
Lombok is Bali’s direct neighbor, and I am predicting that it will become more and more popular over the next 5-10 years, especially since Bali is becoming a bit of a mixed bag in terms of overtourism.
I just spent over two months living in Lombok and exploring the island, and I absolutely loved it. I loved the stunning beaches, the beautiful mountains, the waterfalls, and all the little islands and beach towns scattered around.
Lombok is a huge island, though, so deciding where to stay is very important. Don’t make the mistake of just typing “Lombok” into a booking site, that way, you’ll end up in the middle of nowhere!
That is why I have decided to help you guys out by creating a bunch of guides around Lombok. Today, I’ll be talking about where to stay in Lombok Island, including my favorite areas and beach towns, as well as my absolutely favorite boutique hotels.
I recommend these so you can get a better idea of which area and which hotel might be the best fit for you.

Where to Stay in Lombok – My Experience
I stayed in Lombok for just over two full months, so I definitely have a pretty good idea of what the island is all about. For the most part, I based myself in Kuta Lombok, where I stayed in a few cute boutique hotels and even had a private house for the majority of my time there.
However, during those two months, I also took a 10-day trip to the Gili Islands, which, by the way, was an absolute highlight. I’m completely obsessed with them, especially Gili Air!
On top of that, I took smaller weekend trips to see other parts of the island. I’m really happy I did it that way; it gave me a much better sense of the place than if I had just stayed in one spot the whole time.
From my own experience, Kuta Lombok is my favorite area on the island. To me, it felt like a “mini Canggu” and it has all the good things Bali has, but none of the bad stuff. It’s a small town that doesn’t feel overrun, yet it’s packed with amazing restaurants, cafes, gyms, and incredible villas and hotels. Also, you get great surf without all the crazy traffic you find in Bali. My Favorite hotel in Kuta I stayed at was Origin Lombok which was just so beautiful and relaxing and also super affordable!
Right after Kuta, I’d say the Gili Islands are my second favorite. I’ll be honest: I loved them so much I could have easily stayed there for two months and been perfectly happy! In Gili Air I stayed at a boutique hotel called Divino Gili Air and it was honestly such a dream, I would 100% stay there again!
Don’t get me wrong, I had such an amazing time in Kuta, especially since I was really focused on improving my surfing, but if I wasn’t there for the surf, I’d be picking the Gili Islands any day of the week.
All in all, my experience staying in Lombok, including Kuta, the Gili Islands, and other parts like Selong Belanak and Senggigi Beach, was fantastic. Even though Lombok is majorly different from Bali, I think it’s a great alternative, especially if you love a quieter, less touristy vibe.

My 4 Best Areas to Stay in Lombok Island
1. Kuta Lombok (I Stayed Here for 2 Full Months)
The place in Lombok I stayed for by far the most time was Kuta (don’t mix it up with Kuta in Bali!), and it’s also my favorite place on the island. Kuta is a small surf town with a big backpacker, surf, and digital nomad community.
When I was looking for a place to stay for a little longer, I wanted somewhere that had decent surf opportunities and surf schools, but also a good community, restaurants, cafes, and gyms and Kuta had all of that.
The town also has some amazing beaches all around. Yes, I needed a scooter to get pretty much anywhere, but that’s not a big deal for me.
I know I keep comparing Lombok to Bali, and I know I should probably stop, but it makes so much sense when explaining what Kuta is like! To me, it has most of the things I love about Bali, but on a much smaller scale, which I personally love.
I know some of you love having 10 different luxury gyms to pick from, but I don’t need that, I just need a few essentials, and that’s good enough for me.
My Top Hotels in Kuta Lombok
Origin Lombok (This is My Personal Favorite Hotel in Lombok)
My favorite little boutique hotel in all of Lombok that I stayed at was Origin Lombok because it was by far the most beautiful place I stayed.
The overall design with the pool, gardens, and all the green, lush pool villas scattered around, was just so peaceful. I only stayed there for two nights, but this is 100% where I will stay the next time I’m in Lombok!
One little thing to note: it’s not right in the center of Kuta, so I needed a scooter to get around, but I’m pretty used to that.

El Tropico Boutique Hotel
My second favorite hotel in Kuta Lombok was El Tropico, where I also stayed for two nights. I loved El Tropico because of its chic rooms and nice pool area. It was a little less green than Origin Lombok, but it’s in a much more central location. If you don’t want to rent a scooter, I definitely recommend staying here.

2. Gili Islands (I Stayed Here for 10 Days & I Want to Go back so Bad)
I honestly fell in love with the Gili Islands when I was there recently. Funny enough, I had actually been to the Gili Islands about seven years ago and wasn’t that obsessed, but now that I’ve been again I completely fell in love with them.
The Gili Islands are a small group of islands just off the coast of Lombok and are officially part of Lombok, which is why I’m including them here. This time around, I only visited Gili Trawangan (Gili T) and Gili Air, though I did visit Gili Meno on my first trip years ago.
I really liked Gili T. I went scuba diving there and it was awesome, and we even set free baby turtles, which was so incredible! However, I personally loved Gili Air more. It has such a cool, chill vibe with loads of amazing boutique hotels and cute restaurants and cafes; it was definitely more my speed.
All in all the Gili Islands are just an island paradise with white sand beaches, crystal clear water, palm trees and plenty of beautiful small island boutique hotels. If i was limited on time I personally would only visit the Gili Islands and just skip Lombok main island all together to be honest.
My Favorite Hotels in the Gili Islands:
Divino Gili Air
As the name suggests, Divino Gili Air is my favorite hotel on Gili Air because it was honestly just perfect. I’m not even joking, it might be the best hotel on the island. I don’t even know where to start!
The rooms were so stylish with a chic island vibe, and the pool was beautiful, perfect for lounging. They have a small spa where I got an incredible massage, and it’s only about a four-minute walk from the beach. I think, if I remember correctly, I paid around $70 USD a night, which is just crazy value.

Kuno Villas
Wow, I have to say, even though I slightly prefer Gili Air over Gili T, the villas I stayed at in Gili T were incredible. They’re called Kuno Villas, and the small villas were so cozy with such a cool design that fit right into the island theme. The pool was amazing, and overall, it was just a fantastic stay. Because I’m a “Level 3 Genius” on Booking.com, I even got a three-room upgrade to a poolside villa, which, needless to say, made my stay there even better!

3. Selong Belanak (Family Friendly Beach Town)
Selong Belanak is not too far from Kuta Lombok, and I’d heard great things about this small, sleepy beach town, so I spent a weekend there to see what all the fuss was about.
Honestly, I really liked the vibe, there were a good number of restaurants and cafes around, but all in all, it was much quieter than Kuta, which I personally didn’t mind for a relaxing weekend.
The main beach here was fairly busy, and one thing I noticed was that there were loads of families. That makes total sense, because the water is shallow and absolutely perfect for swimming. It’s also an ideal spot for absolute beginners to take surf lessons; I saw so many families with their little kids trying their very first steps on a surfboard!
I personally wouldn’t stay here again because I prefer something a little more outgoing and social, but if you are coming on a family beach vacation and want your kids to learn how to surf, I don’t think you can find a better place than Selong Belanak.
My Top Hotels in Selong Belanak:
Segara Lombok Beach Resort
As I mentioned, I think this area is perfect for families. If you are traveling with kids, you’ll definitely have a better time staying in a resort. Segara Lombok is more like a boutique resort, it’s fairly small, but it’s right on the beach. It has a beautiful pool and they even offer family rooms with plenty of space for the kids to sleep. The only thing I recommend is maybe renting a car if you stay here!

Driftwood Lombok
This is where I stayed for the weekend, and while it’s not right on the sand (it’s in the town center), I had a really solid stay here.
It’s a very small, nice boutique hotel with spacious rooms and a clean pool. My favorite thing, which I honestly didn’t expect, was their in-house cafe. I had a great breakfast there both mornings! It is for sure an amazing budget-friendly option; I only paid around $40 USD a night for a really decent stay.

4. Senggigi Beach
Senggigi Beach is the only area on this list where I myself didn’t actually stay, but I know how popular it is, so it felt wrong not to mention it in this guide! For a start, I think Lombok as a beach vacation destination still flies a bit under the radar, apart from Senggigi Beach, which seems to be by far the most built-up area on the island.
This is where you will find proper large resort hotels with big pool areas right on the beach, jet ski rentals, and so on. To be fair, Senggigi Beach looks stunning, so if you are looking for an all-inclusive type of hotel or resort vacation on the beach, I’d say this is the spot for you. It’s also fairly close to the Gili Islands, so I would totally combine these two destinations and maybe do seven nights in a nice resort in Senggigi Beach and then three nights in the Gili Islands to go scuba diving and snorkeling.
The Best Hotels in Senggigi Beach, Lombok:
Jeeva Klui Resort
If I were going on vacation here and wanted somewhere for absolute relaxation, I would for sure book this resort. Jeeva Klui has rooms and villas with a beautiful Indonesian island-style decor and design (I personally love it when hotel design matches the local culture and architecture).
The resort also has peaceful gardens and private access to the beach. I’d definitely stay here, especially because you can get a room for under $100 USD a night, which is such good value for a 4-star beachfront hotel. In the USA, you can only get a Motel 6 for $100 a night and that’s about it!

The Puncak Lombok
If I were looking for something a little smaller but more unique, I would for sure stay at The Puncak Lombok. I personally prefer smaller boutique hotels over big resorts, especially when they are this cool. The Puncak is perched on top of a hill with a pool that has the most incredible views over Lombok and the ocean. The rooms look lovely, too but the infinity pool is definitely the highlight here for me.

FAQs About The Best Places to Stay in Lombok Island
Is Lombok worth visiting?
Absolutely! I personally love Lombok, specifically because it’s such a great spot if you’re craving something a little different. I’m all about finding a nice, relaxing boutique hotel tucked away under palm trees where I can just chill without being surrounded by massive crowds. If that’s the vibe you’re looking for, Lombok is perfect.
What is the best hotel in Lombok?
My personal favorite has to be Origin Lombok. It’s an incredibly peaceful little boutique hotel with gorgeous rooms and a stunning pool. I only stayed for two nights, but honestly, the whole experience, from start to finish, was just fantastic.
Are Lombok hotels expensive?
Absolutely not! I’ve traveled all over, and I honestly think the hotels here offer some of the best value for money in all of Asia. You can find super cute boutique hotels starting around $40 USD a night, a really nice boutique hotel for $60–$80, and even a 4-star beachfront resort for about $100. It’s wild how far your money goes here compared to so many other places in the world.
Where should I stay in Lombok for surfing?
If you are a total beginner, I’d point you toward Selong Belanak since the waves there are so much kinder for learning. But if you’ve got a bit more experience and you’re feeling confident on your board, then for sure check out Kuta Lombok. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a better spot for surfing on the whole island than Kuta!
Where should I stay in Lombok for families?
I usually recommend Selong Belanak for families. It’s packed with family-friendly hotels, and from what I’ve seen, the beach itself is just perfect for kids. There’s plenty of shade, lots of restaurants, and the water is nice and shallow, which is a massive win when you’re trying to keep the little ones safe while they swim.
Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in Lombok Island
All in all, I think it really comes down to what you’re looking for from your trip and that’s going to be the deciding factor for where you should plant yourself.
If you’re a backpacker, a digital nomad, or a surfer looking for a cool, laid-back community, then Kuta is 100% the best place to be. That’s where I based myself for two months, and it was just awesome.
If you couldn’t care less about surfing and just want that pure, unadulterated island life, the Gili Islands are incredible. And for the families out there, I’d definitely stick with Senggigi or Selong Belanak.
I really hope this little guide helps you get a better feel for which part of Lombok is your perfect match. Happy travels!
