Where to stay in Mancora: The Ultimate Guide For Mancora in 2024

Mancora, Peru, holds a special place in our hearts because it’s where we traveled together for the first time and where we relaxed after all the intense hiking adventures in Peru. If you’ve trekked around Peru, you know the drill: you’re basically hiking everywhere, bracing for the cold due to high altitudes, and ending up totally exhausted from all the fun but tiring activities.

That’s where Mancora comes into play, the ultimate game-changer in Peru. Imagine a chill beach town where the vibes are laid-back, the food is amazing, the beaches are stunning, and the surf is on point. It’s the dream spot to lounge and power up before you jet back home.

After spending a solid two weeks here at the Pacific Ocean, we’re pretty much locals, and we’re psyched to share our insider’s guide on ‘Where to stay in Mancora’ so you can have an epic time too.

Where to stay in Mancora – Best hotels

Las Olas

Las Olas is definitely one of the most popular and, in our opinion, also one of the best Mancora hotels. It doesn’t come with a swimming pool, but the hotel sits literally right on the beach, which makes it the perfect Mancora Beach hotel. The hotel amenities are great, the private rooms are spacious, and all in all, the hotel has just a super cozy and authentic vibe.

Selina Mancora

The Selina in Mancora is most likely one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. In fact, it actually feels more like a luxury hotel than a hostel. It has an outdoor pool, which is located right on the beach. They offer a really good breakfast, and it’s the perfect spot to relax, take in ocean views, and meet other travelers.

Eco Lodge Mancora

Many people might consider this a cheap hotel, but I say it is one of the best Máncora hotels out there. It has only nine rooms, but this little eco-lodge is definitely one of the coolest spots to stay at. It has a beautiful, relaxing design, a swimming pool, and even a coworking area. It’s perfect for digital nomads!

Arennas Mancora

The Arennas Mancora is probably the hotel with the best location in all of Mancora. It’s located right on the blue ocean, which is just a little bit outside of Mancora town but totally worth it. The rooms are super spacious and come with amazing ocean views. Plus, they have a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the beach. They also offer free wifi, cooking classes, and a stunning swimming pool area, and it is not too far from the nearest airport.

Where to stay in Mancora – Best Areas

Mancora, a hidden gem tucked away on Peru’s far north coast, doesn’t need much introduction to uncover its perfect stay spots, but let’s dive into our top picks in Mancora:

First-timers, aim for Plaza Mancora. It’s the heart of everything, with all the tasty eats and the beach just a stone’s throw away.

For those in love or just after something cozy and stylish, Barrio Industrial is your go-to. Nestled close to the shore, it is also home to some great dining options.

For all families, Pocitas is the perfect spot. Slightly removed from the hustle, its beachfront hotels offer a serene family getaway.

And for all of you budget-conscious travelers and backpackers, the City Center is your best pick. Here you’ll find plenty of hostels and cheap eats.

1. Where to stay in Mancora for the first time: Plaza Mancora

For all you first-timers visiting Mancora, let me put you on to the go-to spot: Plaza Máncora. It’s the typical lively city heart where the action is, offering plenty of hotels and dining options. Whether you’re on a budget or looking to splurge a bit, you’ll find everything from cozy hostels to chic luxury resorts and boutique hotels.

The beach is also just a stone’s throw away, where you will find some great restaurants, bars, and one of our personal favorite beach clubs, the Del WaWa Hotel. There, you can easily stroll up from the beds, grab a sunbed, and you’re good to go with drinks from the bar. My little insider tip: head upstairs for the tastiest freshly made empanadas and smoothie bowls, perfect for refueling after a morning surf session.

In my opinion, food-wise, Plaza Mancora is unbeatable. Whether you’re craving cheap street food or a fancy sit-down meal, you’ll find it all here.

Things to do in Plaza Mancora

Mancora is a surfer’s paradise, the ultimate spot to catch some waves. With breaks super close to the beach and not swamped by tourists, it’s mostly the locals shredding it up. Show some respect and friendliness, and you’ll be riding waves with them in no time! For newbies or those looking to improve, Surf School Inka Warrior is your go-to for affordable rentals and top-notch lessons.

Horseback riding on the beach is another vibe in Mancora. Many hotels offer same-day sunset tours for a chill and romantic experience. And don’t worry about the horses; they’re not overworked and are well-cared for!

If you’re looking for a super fun night out then the Loki del Mar Mancora Hostel is the perfect spot! With its pool parties and amazing drinks, this party hostel is the place to be for a wild time.

And, of course, you can’t miss the food scene in Mancora. It’s unexpectedly awesome, with some seriously good eats around every corner. Make sure to dive into the local culinary delights and discover your new favorite dish!

Best restaurants in Plaza Mancora

  • La Mosca en la Sopa: A hidden gem in Mancora, offering what feels like Michelin-star quality food without the hefty price tag. Our must-tries are their octopus and tuna filet – absolutely delicious.
  • Atlier Mancora: For those seeking a cozy atmosphere with dim lighting and a fine glass of wine, Atelier Mancora is the spot. Their hummus is a standout, and their seasonal main dishes are always a delight.
  • La Sirena de Juan: Another high-quality spot that surprises with its affordability. It’s cozy, the staff is incredibly welcoming, and it’s the go-to place for traditional cow’s cheek and other fancy meats.
  • Green Eggs & Ham: Our favorite breakfast spot is right on the beach, nestled between colorful wooden houses, giving it a Key West vibe. Their American-style breakfast, featuring eggs, pancakes, bacon, and sandwiches, is perfect for starting the day. Don’t miss out on their brownies; they’re delicious, and we had way too many of them.

2. Where to stay in Mancora for couples: Barrio Industrial

This area might be dubbed the industrial neighborhood, but trust me, it’s actually a super cool spot just south of the Mancora lighthouse. We used to stroll along the main road, peeking curiously into this area, always wondering what was going on over there. That ultimately led us to stay there for a few nights and explore what the little area has to offer.

Turns out, Barrio Industrial quickly climbed to the top of my list of favorite spots in Mancora. It’s dotted with some seriously amazing eateries and bars. The variety is just great! From cozy local hangouts where you can grab a drink and a bite, to upscale sushi joints and other chic dining spots.

Tucked away from the main drag, it offers a quieter, more laid-back vibe, making it the perfect area for couples. You have top-notch hotels and dining just around the corner, but if you’re itching for a bit more buzz, the main hustle and bustle of Mancora is just a short walk away.

Things to do in Barrio Industrial

Barrio Industrial enjoys a prime location near the beach, making it an ideal spot for a day of sunbathing, swimming, and surfing.

Additionally, a wonderfully romantic activity is to stroll up to the Mancora lighthouse to witness the sunset. The view from there is breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the coast and serving as a super unique setting for enjoying a few drinks. There’s even a little cafe up there where you can enjoy beers, smoothies, and snacks.

To make it even cooler, if you get lucky, you might stumble upon one of the spontaneous raves held there. The locals often bring a professional DJ and sound system to play during the sunsets. I’m not entirely sure how you find out about those events in advance; we just heard the music blasting from our hotel and followed the sound.

Best restaurants in Barrio Industrial

  • Palmeras Eco Tienda: This should be your must-visit morning hangout. This eco cafĂ© is so much more than a simple corner shop (Tienda). With a cute little cafĂ© offering yummy smoothie bowls and coffees, plus a cool shop featuring locally sourced items and handmade treasures, it’s absolutely one of my favorites in Mancora.
  • La Quebrada: This is pretty much your go-to neighborhood hangout for drinks and snacks. Its laid-back vibe and colorful decor make it the ideal spot to grab a cheap and filling meal after a beach or surf day. Don’t miss out on their delicious ceviche and must-try grilled chicken!
  • Tokuyo: My top pick for sushi and poke bowls is definitely Tokuyo. They offer sushi and poke with fresh ingredients. While it’s not the cheapest, it’s certainly worth the spend. Plus, you can enjoy the pool as long as you grab some drinks at the bar.

3. Where to stay in Mancora for families: Playa las Pocitas

For an awesome family and chill beach holiday, the Las Pocitas Beach area along with the stretch of beach between Mancora City and Las Pocitas Beach is our favorite. What’s superb about it is the simplicity – it’s pretty much a single line of hotels, Airbnb’s, and beachfront houses, all incredibly peaceful, giving you a beach that feels almost private. It’s especially perfect for families craving some relaxing family time but not wanting to stay too far away from Mancora.

But heads up, it’s super quiet around here, so don’t expect many restaurants and bars outside of those within the hotels. But no worries, because most of these places offer some fantastic dining options, and you are still within walking distance of Mancora Beach.

I would totally recommend getting an Airbnb down here especially if you are visiting in a bigger group or with kids because this way you have your own pool, and kitchen and can just relax a lot more than in a hotel!

Things to do in Pocitas

The main attraction in Pocitas is, of course, the beach. You can spend your days relaxing in the sun, swimming in the ocean, and building sandcastles with your family. The beach here is known for being less crowded and more peaceful compared to other areas of Mancora.

If you’re up for some adventure, there are plenty of opportunities for water sports such as surfing, kitesurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding. You can also take a horseback ride along the beach or go on a boat tour to spot dolphins and other marine life.

Best restaurants in Pocitas

  • The Garden Mancora at Selina Hostel: This spot is my go-to for lunch and drinks in Mancora. They’ve got all the typical lunch eats like tacos, ceviche, and burgers, plus fantastic drinks. This Selina isn’t your typical hostel; it’s more upscale, think more like hotel vibes. There’s an awesome pool right by the beach, and an outdoor bar, and you can use all the facilities just by grabbing some food and drinks. Plus, they host a market once a week with local vendors, live music, and food stalls – totally worth your while!

4. Where to stay in Mancora on a budget: City Centre

For all you budget travelers and backpackers aiming to stretch your dollars, the city center is absolutely your go-to spot for lodging. It’s a tad further down the main road than Plaza Mancora, but it has more of a neighborhood vibe. That’s where the magic happens. You’ve got your pick of hostels and budget-friendly eats, all while being a stone’s throw from the beach.

As I mentioned, the area has more of a local feel with small streets lined with homes, yet it’s still packed with eateries and cafes. My favorite part, however, is that the party hostels here are top-notch. Wild Rover Hostel and The Point Mancora Hostel are the places to be, offering that lively atmosphere with pools, outdoor bars, and themed parties every weekend. And the cherry on top: even if staying in hostels isn’t quite up your alley, you’re welcome to swing by for a drink and a dip in the pool, no overnight stay is required.

Things to do in the City Centre

If you’re hanging around Mancora for a bit, totally consider taking some Spanish lessons—it’s an adventure you’re not gonna forget anytime soon! There are cool schools around like Wasi Language School. They hook you up with homestays, so you end up living with a Spanish teacher and their family. Honestly, it’s the best way to learn; you get to do everyday stuff like chores and grocery shopping with them, all in Spanish.

And if you’re into kitesurfing, you’ve gotta check out Wild Kite Peru in the City Centre. Doesn’t matter if you’re just starting or already a pro, it’s the hotspot for lessons and gear rentals.

Best restaurants in the City Centre

  • Pizzeria Trattoria El Italiano: Unquestionably, this is my top pizza choice in Mancora. Tucked away in a quaint back alley, it offers an undeniably authentic vibe. Perhaps its authenticity stems from the owner being a genuine Italian. The pizza here is nothing short of phenomenal, the appetizers are fantastic, and the wine is surprisingly affordable. We’ve certainly spent numerous evenings here, enjoying more than just a single bottle of wine.
  • Kiba: Kiba stands out as another excellent choice for pizza and delightful Peruvian dishes. Located directly opposite the Wild Rover Hostel, it’s a hotspot for backpackers. Many guests come for dinner and stay for the drinks that follow.
  • Blacksheep Cafe: This cafe is just too cute. It’s a great spot to grab your morning coffee and breakfast before heading out for a day of surfing or exploring Mancora. They offer smoothie bowls, sandwiches, and fresh juices – perfect for a healthy start to your day.
