The most gorgeous private villas in Santa Teresa can be found at Selva Resort. You can choose between private villas for two people, with some accommodating up to 11 guests. They offer a private outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, free WiFi access, a sun terrace, and breathtaking views.
($) Ventura Santa Teresa
Ventura in Santa Teresa is a much smaller and more affordable option, a small boutique hotel perfect for couples and long-term stays, as many of their rooms are apartments with a small kitchenette. The property also features an outdoor pool, a shared lounge, free Wi-Fi, and free private parking.

Santa Teresa is a charming, small beach town where some spots are within walking distance, but others require a bit more effort to reach. The town is essentially one main road along the coast, so choosing where to stay depends on your preferences. You can also explore the jungle up the hill, where you’ll find loads of villas perfect for groups and families.
Santa Teresa North, often referred to as Santa Teresa Beach, is the heart of the town. It’s packed with hotels, restaurants, and direct access to the beach—perfect if you want to be in the middle of the action.
For a quieter vibe, head to Santa Teresa South. Just a short walk from the northern area, this part of town is ideal for couples, with boutique hotels and excellent brunch spots.
Beginner surfers should look no further than Playa Hermosa. While it’s a bit out of town, the early morning waves are absolutely worth it.

Like almost everywhere in Santa Teresa, you’re steps away from the beach no matter where you stay—and honestly, that’s one of the things I love most about this place. If your priority is being close to the sand and surf, you really can’t go wrong. But here’s why Santa Teresa North stands out: it’s got some of the best hostels (perfect for backpackers), plus a fabulous mix of boutique hotels, surf camps, and food spots to suit any budget.
💡One of my absolute favorite activities in Santa Teresa was taking a Day Trip to Tortuga Island. You can explore the stunning island, relax on the beach, go snorkeling, and even catch a glimpse of dolphins or humpback whales!

- Kick back at Santa Teresa Beach and soak up the sun while cooling off in the refreshing water—it’s the perfect place to hang out and spend the day.
- Start your day right with a coffee and a breakfast burrito at El Patio Cafe—my absolute favorite spot to fuel up for the day ahead.
- If you’re craving Japanese food, head to Nami Santa Teresa! They serve up delicious dishes that won’t break the bank.
- Treat yourself to some serious relaxation at Jungle Wellness Santa Teresa. I had the most amazing massage there while overlooking the jungle!
- Don’t miss the sundowners! Everyone grabs beers or drinks from a corner store, heads to the beach, and just chills out while watching the sunset.

Funky Monkey Lodge
One of the best affordable boutique hotels in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, is Funky Monkey Lodge. The property offers an outdoor swimming pool overlooking Santa Teresa Beach, cozy double rooms with balconies, and a great breakfast, which is actually a highlight because you can enjoy it on their sun terrace. Of course, it also includes free WiFi, free private parking, and air conditioning.
Fuego Lodge Santa Teresa
If you’re looking for full-on tropical vibes, then Fuego Lodge is your go-to spot, and you’ll see what I mean when you check out their pool area. A super cute boutique hotel in Santa Teresa Beach is Manala Hotel. They offer an outdoor pool surrounded by their lush gardens. Where to Stay in Santa Teresa Beach for Couples: Santa Teresa South
Just a quick stroll south of Santa Teresa Beach, you’ll find the dreamy Santa Teresa South or often reffered to as Playa Carmen—a perfect spot for couples. This area is quieter and feels much more relaxed, making it ideal for a romantic escape. We loved how peaceful it was compared to the main beach—fewer crowds, more privacy, and a calmer atmosphere.
The accommodations here are definitely more upscale. While there aren’t as many options, the boutique hotels and villas really cater to couples. Here, you can find cozy villas with private pools or jacuzzis overlooking the ocean at sunset. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that.
Things to Do in Santa Teresa South
- Spend the day at Carmen Beach (Playa Carmen) and soak up the sun—it’s the perfect spot for a chill day by the beach.
- Not a fan of just lounging on the beach? No problem! Check out Banana Beach, a super fun beach club. It’s my go-to spot for lunch, dinner, or sunset drinks.
- For your daily coffee fix, head to The Bakery, my absolute favorite brunch spot in Santa Teresa South! Their coffee and bagels are *chef’s kiss*—it’s perfect to start your day.
- For sushi lovers, Katana is a must-visit! Not only is the sushi incredible, but the decor is so unique and stylish. It’s such a cool place for lunch or dinner.

Hotel Nantipa
One of the most extravagant resorts on my list is definitely Hotel Nantipa. The resort is located right on Santa Teresa Beach and has a stunning pool area with a private beach. The private rooms offer great views of the pool, and their private villas come with a plunge pool overlooking the jungle and the beach.
Nala Luxury Living
If you’re planning on staying in Santa Teresa Beach for a little longer and don’t want to give up on some luxury, I recommend staying at Nala Luxury Living. The property offers luxurious apartments with a bedroom, lounge room, and kitchen. It also includes a shared swimming pool and free Wi Fi.

If you’re looking for a relaxed surf spot near Santa Teresa, then Playa Hermosa is the perfect choice. Just a short drive north, this small surf community feels like a hidden gem. With only a few roads, cozy apartments, boutique hotels, and laid-back surf camps, it’s ideal for staying close to the waves.
The real highlight is definitely the beach. Playa Hermosa is a top spot for beginner and intermediate surfers. When I stayed in Santa Teresa, we always drove up here for lessons because the conditions are perfect. If you stay at Playa Hermosa, you can surf early in the morning before the schools arrive or later in the afternoon when the crowds thin out.

El Chante Surf House
