The Trapp Family Lodge is one of the most famous and beloved hotels in Stowe. This Austrian-style lodge was founded by the von Trapp family, yes – the same family from “The Sound of Music”! Hotel Edson Hill
Hotel Edson Hill is another beautiful luxury hotel in Stowe, Vermont. This elegant country house offers a more refined experience with spacious suites and a peaceful atmosphere. The property is literally in the middle of the woods, but it’s so peaceful and relaxing.
The Lodge at Spruce Peak
The best resort in Stowe, VT for all skiers and snowboarders, the Lodge at Spruce Peak is located right on the slopes of Stowe Mountain. With direct access to the ski lift, an outdoor heated pool, spa, hot tub, and luxurious rooms with mountain views, this is my favorite luxury hotel for the perfect ski trip to Vermont.

If you’re heading to Stowe, Vermont, let me share a bit about where to stay. This mountain town is surprisingly big, so choosing the right spot is key. Stowe is divided into three main areas: The Stowe Mountain Resort, Stowe Village, and West Branch. They’re quite a distance from each other, so pick your location wisely! I learned this the hard way, so trust me—having your own car or renting one is a must to make the most of your trip.
Where to Stay in Stowe, Vermont for the First Time: Stowe Village
If you’re planning a fall trip to Stowe, VT, then I think that Stowe Village is the absolute best spot to stay. It’s super cute, right in the heart of everything, and has some amazing hotels and cozy guesthouses that are just perfect for embracing that fall vibe.
Since it’s fall and not quite winter yet, there’s really no need to be near the Mountain Resort and the gondola. That’s why I’d recommend staying in the Village. There are a bunch of adorable little restaurants and cafes where you can soak in the stunning fall foliage while munching on some delicious local food.
For coffee and breakfast, Black Cap Coffee or Butler’s Pantry are my absolute favorites! And for a cozy dinner, you can’t go wrong with Harrison’s.
Things to Do in Stowe Village
If you’re looking for some slow-paced outdoor activities, Stowe, VT is the place to be, especially in the fall. It’s all about hiking, leisurely strolls, and soaking in the stunning fall foliage. Here are my personal favorites:
First up, Cady Hill Forest is right next to Stowe Village, and it’s perfect for a nature walk. Then there’s the iconic Sunset Rock—it offers breathtaking views of the charming little village below.
And, of course, no trip is complete without a visit to the Gold Brook Covered Bridge, just south of Stowe, which is a perfect photo location. While you’re there, if you’re still up for more hiking, head over to the Stowe Pinnacle Trail. The hike to the top rewards you with amazing views over Stowe!

The Stowe Village Inn
If you want similar vibes to the Green Mountain Inn but don’t mind some modern convenience, then The Stowe Village Inn is a great choice. It has that classic New England feel with all the modern amenities you could need for a comfortable stay.

Outbound Stowe
My favorite new and modern hotel in Stowe is definitely Outbound Stowe. The whole property feels like a little compound, with a hotel block featuring multiple deluxe double rooms and plenty of charming A-frame bungalows scattered around, which I absolutely love.
The best part is the direct access to Stowe’s recreation path. In case you didn’t know, the Stowe recreation path is the best walking and hiking trail, leading you through the most beautiful parts of Stowe and its natural surroundings.

Where to Stay in Stowe Vermont for Skiing: Stowe Mountain Resort
With Stowe, VT being one of my favorite ski resorts in the Northeast, it’s no surprise that Stowe Mountain Resort tops my list of places to stay. Whether you’re hitting the slopes all day or just looking for a cozy and luxurious spot to relax after a day on the mountain, this is the place.
Stowe Mountain Resort is the designated area for skiing because, in Stowe, VT, the village and other nearby areas are quite separated from the ski lifts. The ski lifts and the entire ski resort are located in the Stowe Mountain Resort area, which is about a 10-minute drive from Stowe Village.
Things to Do in Stowe Mountain Resort
Of course, the number one thing to do at Stowe Mountain Resort is skiing! With over 300 inches of annual snowfall, it’s a powdery paradise for skiers and snowboarders. However, there’s actually plenty of other fun activities if you’re not super into skiing or snowboarding.
In the winter, I absolutely love going snowmobiling. If you don’t have your own, there are many tours you can book where you’ll follow a guide on your own snowmobile, and it’s so much fun!
In the summer, the ski slopes transform into hiking and biking trails, creating a perfect setting for hikers, but even more so for mountain biking!
Best Hotels to Stay in Stowe Mountain Resort
The Lodge at Spruce Peak
For a luxurious and cozy stay, I highly recommend The Lodge at Spruce Peak. Located right at the base of the mountain, this hotel offers ski-in/ski-out access, making it convenient for skiers and snowboarders. They also have a heated outdoor pool, a spa, and a hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes. It’s all in all definitely the most luxurious hotel here in Stowe and my personal favorite for a ski trip.

Where to Stay in Stowe Vermont for a Family Vacation: West Branch
Set between the Mountain Resort and Stowe Village, West Branch feels like its own little town, and I absolutely love it! It’s way smaller and quieter than the other spots, which can get a bit too touristy and busy, especially in peak season. West Branch is just so chill, and after staying there for a week, I almost felt like a local!
If you ever want to head over to the other areas, it’s just a 5-minute drive to either place, or you can even walk Stowe’s recreation path. But honestly, there’s no real reason to leave. West Branch has the cutest cafes, fantastic restaurants, and a supermarket, so you’ve got everything you need right there.
Things to Do in West Branch
For those warm summer days, I definitely recommend exploring the breweries around Stowe—there are quite a few. One of my favorites is the Alchemist Brewery in West Branch. They offer a super interesting tour with a guide who dives deep into the brewing process. They also have a great outdoor terrace where you can enjoy a cold beer in the sun.
And if you’re looking for something even more refreshing, I absolutely love heading over to Red Barn to try some of Stowe’s best ice cream. It’s a must-visit!
