Where to Stay in Taichung Taiwan: My Top Areas & Hotels 2025
A lot of people, including me, probably won’t spend too long in Taichung. I feel like most travelers stay about a night or two, and honestly, that’s usually enough.
Taichung City is known as a student city, not too far from Taipei. It’s less of a tourist destination and has more of a local vibe, which I really enjoyed. Most tourists only stop here on their way to Sun Moon Lake and just stay a quick night. But honestly, I think it’s worth staying an extra night to really explore Taichung and check out the amazing night markets.
In this guide on Where to Stay in Taichung, I’ll share my experience staying in Taichung, my favorite areas, and my picks for the best hotels in Taichung to help you figure out where to stay.

Where to stay in Taichung – My Experience
I stayed in Taichung for two nights to explore the city a bit more, and I actually didn’t visit Sun Moon Lake from there. I took the train from Taipei to Taichung and then went straight down to Tainan afterwards. So I figured I’d spend two nights in Taichung just to check it out properly.
It was definitely fun to explore a different city than Taipei, especially since Taichung has more of a young, student vibe. There are more boutique stores, cool shopping streets, and fun night markets that feel way more local and lively. It really had that typical student city energy, and I loved it.
When I stayed in Taichung, I knew I’d only be there for a short time, so I made sure to stay in the central district near the train station and that’s exactly what I’d recommend. That way, you can actually explore a lot on foot (which I always prefer), and being close to the station just makes everything easier. It’s your entry point from Taipei and your exit when you head to Sun Moon Lake or, like me, straight down to Tainan.

Best Areas to Stay in Taichung Taiwan
Taichung Central District
This is where I stayed and where I’d recommend if you’re only in Taichung for a short time. It’s super convenient because it’s close to the main train station, which makes arriving and leaving so much easier. You can walk to a bunch of restaurants, night markets, and shops, so you don’t have to rely on buses all the time. If you only have a night or two here, staying in the Central District just makes life simpler.
Taichung North District
The North District has a slightly more local, laid-back vibe. It’s home to the Yizhong Street Night Market, which was my personal favorite, and there are lots of affordable eats and shops around. You’ll also find more student crowds here since it’s near some universities, so the area feels young and lively but less touristy than other parts of the city. A great option if you want that local, everyday feel.
Taichung West District
The West District is a bit trendier and more upscale compared to the others. Here you’ll find more boutique shops, cute cafés, and a few fancy hotels. It’s also close to the National Museum of Natural Science and Calligraphy Greenway, so if you’re into art, museums, and creative spots, this area is perfect. It feels a bit more modern and upscale, so it’s a good choice if you want something stylish but still central.

1. Taichung Hotels in the Central District
Le Meridien Taichung
Le Meridien is probably the most “proper” hotel option on this list, it’s right next to the train station, so if you’re coming in late or leaving early, the location is super convenient. The rooms are modern, spacious, and feel a bit more upscale. The breakfast here is supposed to be pretty great too (I didn’t try it myself, but worth mentioning). If you want a comfy, slightly fancier stay without going full luxury resort mode, this is the perfect choice.

BlueSky Hotel
This is where I stayed, and I really liked it. It’s one of those boutique hotels that feels modern and fresh without being all design-y and trying too hard. The rooms were bright, super clean, and actually felt bigger than I expected. The staff were super friendly, and they looked after our bags after check-out so we could wander around a bit more before leaving. The location is great too, close enough to walk pretty much everywhere in the central area and to the train station. For the price, it’s honestly a great deal, and I’d happily stay here again.

Phoenix Hotel Taichung
Phoenix Hotel is a nice middle-ground option. It doesn’t have the same boutique vibe as BlueSky or the fancier feel of Le Meridien, but it does its job well. The rooms are simple but comfy, and the location is right in the center, so it’s easy to get to the night markets and other spots on foot. If you’re after a reliable, no-fuss place to sleep after a day of exploring (or stuffing yourself at the markets), this one is for sure a great place to stay in Taichung.

2. Best Hotels in Taichung North District
Aroma Chew Hotel
Aroma Chew Hotel was actually my plan B when I was looking for places to stay in Taichung, and I almost booked it. The rooms here look super modern and clean, and I really liked the bright, minimalist design. If you’re into newer, sleek hotels rather than something old-school or too classic, Aroma Chew Hotel might be a good place for you to stay. It’s also close to Yizhong Street Night Market, which is probably my favorite night market in Taichung, so you can easily roll out for late-night snacks. I didn’t end up staying there because BlueSky Hotel was slightly cheaper.

Easylazy Inn
Easylazy Inn is a fun, budget-friendly option in the North District. This place has a casual, almost hostel-like feel but with private rooms, so it’s great if you want something social without actually having to share a dorm. The design is simple but cute, and the location is super convenient if you want to check out the night markets or just explore the area on foot.

3. Taichung Accommodation in the West District
Intercontinental Taichung
If you’re looking for a proper luxury hotel in Taichung, the InterContinental is probably the best luxury hotel in Taichung. It’s brand new with a super cool design, and easily one of the most high-end options you’ll find. Great location, modern rooms, rooftop pool, the full package. Obviously not the cheapest, but if you’re only in town for a short visit and want to be comfortable, this is the one I would stay at if I wanted to splurge a little.

Evergreen Laurel Hotel
The Evergreen Laurel is more of a classic-style luxury hotel and a little older in its look, but still very much of a 5 star hotel in Taichung. The rooms are spacious, there’s a gym and pool, and the service gets great reviews. It’s not quite as flashy as the InterContinental, but if you prefer a more traditional vibe, then this is one of the best Taichung hotels for you.
