Where to Stay in Taipei Taiwan: My Top Areas & Hotels in 2025

Last Updated on June 27, 2025 by Oliver

Taipei totally surprised me but maybe that’s because I had no idea what to expect when I came here. I visited for the first time this year, and it ended up being one of my favorite cities of 2025. The food is amazing, the culture is super fun to dive into, and the people are genuinely some of the friendliest I’ve met while traveling.

As the capital of Taiwan, Taipei is pretty big, and figuring out where to stay in Taipei can be a bit confusing at first. So in this guide, I’ll walk you through the best areas to stay in Taipei, which neighborhoods I personally liked most, and some hotel and hostel options I’d actually recommend. I spent a week here and stayed in a couple of different places, so this is all based on my own experience in Taipei.

Where to Stay in Taipei City – My Experience

When I first arrived in Taipei, I honestly had no idea where to stay. I didn’t know which areas were fun, what was convenient, or what the vibe was like, so I just booked a random place for the first two nights to figure things out on the go.

I ended up staying in a small hostel near Taipei 101 (Taipei 101 isn’t just the skyscraper, they often refer to the whole area as Taipei 101 now), and I actually really liked it. The neighborhood had loads of little side streets with great restaurants and really good coffee shops, so I could just walk out in the morning and grab breakfast and a coffee without needing to hop on the MRT first. That’s something I really value when I travel.

After a few days, I switched it up and stayed in a nicer hotel closer to the Ximending district. This area felt much more nightlife-focused with lots of neon lights, busy streets, and night markets right around the corner. The Ximending Walking District was super fun in the evenings with everything open late, and it was a great area to explore after dark.

No matter where I stayed, I still had to use the MRT to get around and explore other parts of the city, so being close to a station was key. But personally, the most important thing for me was being able to walk to good food and coffee in the morning. If I can start my day on foot without needing transport right away, that’s always a win.

Definitely one of the best hotels in Taipei!

The Best Areas to Stay in Taipei

Taipei 101 ( Xinyi District)

This ended up being my favorite area to stay in and I didn’t even plan it that way. I booked a hostel near Taipei 101 for my first couple of nights and just kind of stumbled into the perfect neighborhood. It’s a little more upscale than other areas, but not in a boring way. You’ve got great cafés, local restaurants, and the big shiny Taipei 101 skyscraper right there with a huge mall and the observatory on the 89th floor. It’s also close to Elephant Mountain and not too far from Raohe Night Market, so location-wise it’s kind of perfect. Super walkable, super convenient. I’d absolutely stay here again.

Daan District

Daan has more of a chill and local feel. It’s where the university is, and it gives off big “student neighborhood with great food” energy. There are leafy streets, tons of casual spots to eat, and one of my favorite parks in the city, Daan Park. If you’re looking for somewhere that’s still central but less hectic, Daan is a great choice. There are also some surprisingly affordable boutique and 4-star hotels around here that feel way more expensive than they are and it’s close to places like Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall.

Ximending

After a few days near Taipei 101, I switched it up and stayed near Ximending. The energy here is completely different, way more nightlife, neon lights, and people everywhere. I was near the Ximending Walking District, which meant I could just walk out and be in the middle of everything: food stalls, shops, street performances. If you’re someone who likes to be where the action is, this area’s a great choice.

Taipei Main

I didn’t personally stay right in this area, but I did spend quite a bit of time around here catching trains and hopping on the MRT. It’s super convenient for getting around the city or for arriving from the airport, and if you’re planning to take day trips, staying near Taipei Main Station makes things easier. It’s not the most exciting neighborhood in terms of atmosphere, but you’re a short walk from Ximending and other areas.

Where to Stay in Taipei Taiwan: My Top Areas & Hotels in 2025

1. Taipei Hotels around Taipei 101

Grand Hyatt Taipei

Needless to say, the Grand Hyatt is one of the best hotels in Taipei City. It’s located right across from Taipei 101, so the views, especially from the rooms facing the tower, are pretty incredible. The rooms are spacious and stylish, and the hotel has everything you’d expect: a big swimming pool, a spa, and a gym. This is definitely one of those “treat yourself” places. If I ever come back to Taipei and want to splurge (or win the lottery), this is where I’d book.

Humble House Taipei

Humble House is another high-end hotel that’s perfect if you’re in Taipei for something special like a honeymoon or a couples trip. The rooms are modern, bright, and super comfortable, and some of them also have great views of Taipei 101.

Work Inn 101

This one’s for all the budget travelers. Work Inn 101 is a small hostel just a short walk from Taipei 101, and it’s surrounded by loads of great little restaurants and cafés. I stayed here for a few nights and loved the location, it’s easy to get around, and the area feels local but still central. They’ve got dorms with pod beds and a few private rooms as well. Nothing fancy, but for the price, it’s definitely a great choice.

2. My Favorite Accommodation in Taipei Daan District

MGH Mitsui Garden Hotel

The Mitsui Garden Hotel, and the next one on this list are honestly two of the best value-for-money luxury hotels I’ve come across in Taipei. They’re both rated 4 stars, but to me, they easily feel like they’re on par with some of the 5-star hotels in the city. Mitsui Garden has beautiful, modern rooms that are super clean and spacious, as well as a great restaurant and even an indoor pool. No, it doesn’t have a Taipei 101 view, but for around $100 USD a night (depending on the season), it’s hard to beat the value.

Miramar Garden Taipei

Miramar Garden is another 4-star option that’s even a little more affordable than Mitsui. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and the hotel’s location is pretty central. It’s definitely more on the simple side compared to Mitsui, but if you’re looking for a good, reliable hotel that won’t break the bank, this is a fantastic choice. I’d totally stay here again next time I’m in Taipei, especially if I’m looking to keep things budget-friendly but still comfortable.

3. Best Hotels in Taipei Ximending District

Meander 1948

Ximending in general is a much cheaper area to stay in, there are loads of small, affordable hotels that are totally fine if you’re mainly here to explore. I stayed at Meander 1948, which is technically a hostel with dorm rooms (so great for backpackers), but I booked a private room for just $50 USD a night. Honestly, it didn’t even feel like a hostel at all, more like a cute little boutique hotel. If you’re after a private room that’s clean, affordable, and in a great location, I’d definitely recommend this place. Perfect for couples too.

N Hotel

N Hotel is probably one of the best cheap hotels in Taipei. It’s modern, clean, and recently renovated. The rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but honestly, for the price, there’s nothing to complain about. It’s inside a building with a bunch of other hotels, so it does feel a bit more budget overall, but the rooms themselves are great and for around $40 USD a night, it’s kind of a steal.

4. Best Places to Stay in Taipei Main

Cosmos Hotel Taipei

This is one I’d definitely book if I wanted two things:
A) to be in a super convenient location close to Taipei Main Station, and
B) to still have a bit of comfort.
It’s a slightly older hotel, but definitely more on the upscale side. The rooms are spacious, the service is great, and they have a surprisingly impressive breakfast buffet.

Hotel Resonance Taipei

Hotel Resonance is a Hilton property and one of the newer hotels in Taipei. Everything here feels super modern, the design is sleek, stylish, and clean. It’s also in a great spot just a short walk from Taipei Main Station. If you want to stay somewhere that feels fresh and a little more high-end but still practical, this place is perfect. Spacious rooms, a big breakfast buffet, and even a gym.
