Best Whitehaven Beach Day Trips from Airlie Beach – My Experience
When we were choosing our day trip from Airlie Beach, we knew we wanted a sailboat, something chill where we could lounge on the deck, take in the views, and stop for a snorkel along the way. That instantly narrowed things down and made the decision way easier.
From there, we went down a full-on rabbit hole of tours, Reddit threads, and Google searches trying to figure out what was actually worth it. We ended up booking our day trip through GetYourGuide because they had loads of five-star reviews, and most of the private companies were already booked out and not available(we went during the Whitsundays high season, rookie move).
We chose the Camira Sailing Adventure, and honestly, it was the perfect sailing trip for us. It included a visit to Whitehaven Beach, a walk to Hill Inlet, and a BBQ lunch. The catamaran was smaller than most of the speedboat-style tours, so it felt more personal and relaxed not just a boat designed to launch you straight to the beach and back.
We got to actually enjoy the journey, stretched out on deck, soaking up the sun, chatting with other travelers. After a couple hours at the beach, we went snorkeling at the outer part of the Great Barrier Reef, and it was incredible. The weather was perfect, the water was crystal clear, and it was a full-day experience in the best way.
While I’ve included four other tours below, but I really recommend the Camira. It was a total highlight of our time in Airlie Beach.

It’s relaxed, scenic, and has just the right amount of social energy, plus, wine and beer start flowing after 11am. If your dream day involves sunbaking on the deck, taking in the views, and chatting with fellow travelers over a cold drink, Camira hits the mark.

You’ll cruise through the Whitsundays, stop at Whitehaven Beach, and snorkel a coral reef along the way. It’s a slower-paced tour, so it’s perfect if you want something laidback and scenic without the buzz of a big group.
You can help pull the sails, or just catch a tan on the deck! The tour also has lunch included, and you can BYO drinks for a cheeky sundowner on the way back.

3. Thunder Cat Eco Cruise with Lunch Buffet // the Quickest way to get to Whitehaven Beach from Airlie Beach

It’s a full-day tour that somehow squeezes in a lot without making you feel rushed. You’ll get a solid buffet lunch, plus morning and afternoon snacks, and there’s even space to stash your bags and towels.
The boat itself is kind of like a bus on water with traditional seats, fully covered, and protected from the sun, which makes it a great pick for families or anyone not trying to roast on deck all day. This is one of the most popular day tours through the Whitsunday Islands from Airlie Beach!

4. Ocean Rafting Semi-Rigid Inflatable Boat Tour // Budget Friendly Airlie Beach Day Trip to Whitehaven
Ocean Rafting is a great option if you’re up for a bit of adventure. The semi-rigid inflatable boats are fast, like, really fast, and the ride can get a little bumpy, but that’s part of the fun.
You’ll visit Whitehaven Beach, snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, and stop at Whitehaven Beach Lookout for that iconic white swirling view. There are two tour options to choose from: Northern Exposure includes more time in the water for snorkeling, while Southern Lights gives you extra time relaxing on the South Whitehaven Beach.
The boat is open-air with bench seating, so you’re in the sun and sea spray most of the day, definitely come prepared with sunscreen and a dry bag. It’s a fun, energetic tour and ideal if you want to pack a lot into one day and don’t mind getting a little salty along the way.

If you’re strapped for time, or money, let’s be real, this half-day tour is an excellent choice. It gets you out to Whitehaven Beach without the full-day commitment, and still includes the iconic Hill Inlet lookout walk.
You can choose between a morning or afternoon departure, which makes it super convenient if you’re arriving in Airlie on a cruise ship or have other plans in the day. It’s a relaxed itinerary with no snorkeling or lunch included, but it’s ideal if you just want to see the beach without squeezing your entire day (or wallet) dry.
