Yoga in Ahangama: My 7 Favorite Yoga Studios + 1 Great Spot for Pilates
Yoga in Ahangama feels like everything else in Sri Lanka right now—it’s growing fast. More restaurants, more cafes, more coworking spaces… you can really tell the south coast is blowing up, especially all those little beach towns.
Even just in the span of a year and a half, the change has been wild. When I first came to Sri Lanka in 2024, there were only a handful of cute little yoga spots and shalas. But when I came back in early 2025, I was shocked at how many more had popped up.
I’ve tried quite a few yoga classes in Ahangama—first during a longer stay of over a month, and then again more recently when I came back for a few weeks. And now they even have a proper Pilates studio offering reformer classes (yay!).
In this guide to yoga in Ahangama, I’m just sharing my personal experience and honest opinions about the yoga studios I actually went to. My goal is to make it super easy for you to find good yoga options without spending ages searching on Google or Maps.
So let’s get right into it—these are my favorite spots for yoga in Ahangama, plus one Pilates studio I think is worth checking out too.

My Yoga Experiences in Ahangama
I’ve tried a few yoga studios in Ahangama—but not all of them—so there might be a few that didn’t make it onto this list. And honestly, with how fast things are growing in Sri Lanka, there might already be new spots popping up since I was last there.
That said, I didn’t want this to turn into a mega list. I don’t think anyone needs 15 yoga studios to choose from—just give me a few solid ones and I’m good. So that’s exactly what I’ve done here.
One of my favorites is actually the first one listed below: The Nuga House, which is also a beautiful place to stay. And I was super excited to see that Ahangama now has a full reformer Pilates studio, too. I know it’s not yoga, but I feel like a lot of people who enjoy yoga for the movement and mindful exercise also love reformer Pilates—especially if they’re looking for something with a bit more of a workout feel.
💡If you’re planning on visiting Hiriketiya, definitely check out my guide on yoga in Hiriketiya—I’ve shared my favorite studios and yoga shalas there.
The Nuga House // My Favorite Place for Yoga in Ahangama
-Drop-in classes every day at 8:30 AM for 3,000 LKR (about 10 USD)
-Mats and bolsters are included
-You can use the pool and showers after (just bring your own towel)
-There’s also a little café on-site with really good coffee and breakfast
The Nuga House was actually the very first place I ever did yoga in Ahangama—mostly because I stayed there the first few nights I arrived. It’s a surf and yoga retreat, but you don’t need to book a full-on package. You can just grab a room and join the classes if you want to.
Right now they run one drop-in class every morning at 8:30, usually Vinyasa style. I kept coming back to this one more than any other. The teachers were lovely—super warm and easy to follow—and the class always had a great flow. That’s honestly my number one thing: if the flow is good and I don’t feel lost or bored or dead halfway through, I’m happy. The classes weren’t too intense, but they also weren’t a walk in the park either. Just that sweet spot.
Also, I really liked hanging out after class with a coffee by the pool. Such a good start to the day.

The Well Yoga Retreat // Best Drop in Yoga Ahangama
–Drop-in classes at 8:30 AM, Monday to Saturday
-Pool use is included
-Mats are provided
-Beautiful open-air Shala with jungle views
I didn’t plan this list in any particular order, but funny enough, The Well really is my second favorite spot for yoga in Ahangama.
The setup is pretty similar to The Nuga House—it’s a property with beautiful rooms (they even have dorms, so it’s a bit more hostel-style), and they offer surf and yoga retreats as well as drop-in yoga and fitness classes. I’ve never stayed here myself, but I’ve done quite a few classes.
They usually have yoga in the morning at 8:30 AM, followed by a fitness session after. I’ve done both. The yoga classes are lovely—pretty chilled out, not too intense, which is perfect when you’re not in the mood to sweat buckets. The fitness sessions after are more focused on mobility and surf strength, which I found really fun and different.
Also, pool use is included with the class, so I usually just hang out afterward, swim a bit, maybe grab a smoothie. It’s one of those places where you end up staying way longer than you planned—in the best way.

Senses Sri Lanka
-Up to 5 different classes daily for 3000 LKR (around $10)
-Mats are included
-Beautiful location surrounded by nature
Senses Sri Lanka is a yoga retreat, so just like the others, you can either book a full week-long yoga package or just drop in for a single class. It’s a little further tucked away in nature than the first two spots I mentioned, with a jungle-style shala and even some classes and sound healings held right on the forest ground—which is pretty cool, honestly.
I only went to one class here, and I did enjoy it. The vibe was peaceful, the flow was nice, and the surroundings made it feel like a proper little escape. The class itself was very beginner-friendly, though—maybe a bit too gentle for me personally, which is probably why I didn’t go back. Also, it’s a bit more out of the way. But if you’re just starting out or want something super chill in a beautiful, quiet setting, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Yin Yang Ahangama
-Jungle surroundings with monkeys and birds
-Classes feel more spiritual and laid-back
Yin Yang Ahangama is definitely something a little different. They offer yoga classes every day on their floating platform by the river (yes, the same float where they host parties on the weekends).
The setting here is stunning—it’s right on the river, surrounded by jungle. When I went, there were monkeys in the trees and birds chirping, and the whole thing felt kind of magical. The yoga class itself was good, more on the spiritual and relaxing side rather than a strong workout, but it flowed well.
I only went once, but for the location alone, I’d say it’s worth trying at least once—just for the experience.
Shramalaya
Up to 5 daily yoga classes
Drop-in classes from 3000 LKR
Very cool spiritual, eco-friendly community vibe
They offer Yoga Teacher Training
Shramalaya is a newer spot in Ahangama, but it’s already become pretty popular. It’s not just a yoga studio—it’s more of a whole community space focused on wellbeing. They offer yoga, massages, breathwork, cooking classes, and all kinds of workshops, and the vibe is definitely more on the spiritual, eco-conscious side.
I’ve only been to two classes here, but I loved the teacher they had at the time. Her class had such a nice flow and was genuinely fun to join. The space is a little outside of the main town, so you’ll probably want a scooter to get there easily.
They run a really full schedule, with up to five classes a day, and if you’re into the more holistic side of things, this might be your favorite spot on the list.

Sarana Ahangama // Best Hidden Gem for Ahangama Yoga
Small Shala, very intimate vibe
Drop-in class around 3000 LKR
Also recommend their craft classes like pottery and batik
Sarana is one of my favorite little hidden spots in Ahangama. It’s a bit of a mix between an arts center and a café, and I actually found it because I took a pottery class here (which was so fun—highly recommend). After that, I tried one of their Batik classes too, and while hanging out there, I realized they also offer yoga.
Their yoga shala is super small but so beautiful. It’s right in the jungle, with birds chirping and monkeys in the trees—such a peaceful setting.
They don’t have a proper website or booking system, so you just have to DM them on Instagram to ask about class times. It’s definitely a more off-the-radar spot, but that’s part of what makes it special.

Pulse Nest
Pulse Nest in Ahangama has a really beautiful setting. I came here once for a drop-in class and was blown away by the view from the shala—lush jungle and a lake right in front of you. It honestly felt like something out of a dream.
Unfortunately, it started raining halfway through, and since the shala is open, some of that rain came in and interrupted the class a bit. But even with that, it was still a good session. The teacher was super technical, which I really appreciate sometimes—especially when someone actually tells you how to improve your form instead of just flowing through poses.
Ulu House of Pilates // Best Pilates in Ahangama
Ulu House of Pilates just opened at the end of 2024 and it’s officially the first (and only!) proper reformer Pilates studio in Ahangama—finally!
The studio is brand new, with high-quality reformer machines, and the whole space looks amazing. It has that clean, tropical, minimal Sri Lanka aesthetic that just makes you want to stay longer.
I tried a few classes here and loved every single one. The instructors were great, the vibe was welcoming, and if I had stayed longer, I would’ve definitely become a regular. They also offer mat Pilates and even Muay Thai classes, which is kind of wild and fun.
They post their schedule weekly on Instagram and run multiple classes a day, most of which fill up quickly. What I loved most is that they’re really building a little community around it—with things like Pilates brunches and other social events. Such a great spot for digital nomads or expats staying longer in Ahangama.

Final Thoughts on Ahangama Yoga
The first time I was in Sri Lanka, I did most of my yoga in Hiriketiya and loved it—but I honestly didn’t realize how big the yoga scene in Ahangama had become until I came back this time. Now I get it. There are so many beautiful shalas here, amazing teachers, and just really good energy all around.
I don’t need a dozen different studios to feel happy—give me one good class with the right vibe and I’m set. But the cool thing about Ahangama is that there are a lot of options. Some studios are more modern and technical, others are super spiritual and flowy. And you can feel that difference not just in the classes, but in the actual shalas too. Whether you’re here for a full retreat or just a casual drop-in, you’ll find something that fits.
