The 7 Best Cafes in Amsterdam: My Top Coffee Shops in 2026
If you know me, then you already know that I am a huge coffee, brunch, and breakfast lover. Wherever I go in the world, I always make sure to track down a great cup of coffee and I have to say, that was particularly easy to do here. Amsterdam has an insane amount of amazing cafes that many of them make a really great latte or flat white!
I’ve been visiting Amsterdam as a tourist pretty much my whole life since I grew up only a two-hour train ride away in Germany. Because of that, I’ve had plenty of time over the years to experiment and figure out which cafes are actually worth your time and money.
Since I know how completely overwhelming it can be to pick and choose a spot in a city with so many options, I’ve put together this quick guide with my personal favorite coffee shops, breakfast restaurants and cafes in Amsterdam.
Hopefully, this helps you narrow it down a bit and find the perfect spot to fuel up before a long day of exploring!

What are The Best Cafes in Amsterdam – My Quick Answer
I know a lot of you don’t want to read through a super long article with a million different recommendations, so I’ll give you the quick version right here: in my personal opinion, the two absolute best cafes in Amsterdam are Bakers & Roasters and KaZik Amsterdam. Of course, everyone has their own favorites, but these two are unmatched for me.
Bakers & Roasters is a Kiwi/Australian-style brunch spot. Since I actually lived in Australia for three years and became completely obsessed with the breakfast culture down under, it’s really no surprise that I love this place so much. Their flat whites are just pure perfection.
Kazik Amsterdam is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. It’s a Polish cafe that serves incredible coffee and cakes, but when I was there, I tried their daily special: pierogi. They are traditional Polish dumplings, and they were absolutely delicious. The whole place is super cozy, too, making it definitely one of my favorite little hidden gems in the city.

1. Bakers & Roasters

Let’s start with my absolute favorite cafe and brunch spot in Amsterdam: Bakers & Roasters.
I’ve actually been coming here for years now, the very first time was literally like six years ago, and it’s still one of my go-to places in the city. As a Kiwi and Australian-style cafe, they serve amazing flat whites and super delicious food.
I’ve tried quite a few of their brunch items over the years, though their menu does change from time to time. Most recently, we ordered our usual coffees, and for food, I ordered their “Big Breakfast.” It came loaded with sourdough bread, avocado, bacon, poached eggs, and even pancakes. Needless to say, I was completely stuffed afterward, but it was so worth it.
The only real downside is that it gets super busy, and they pretty much do walk-ins only. I’ve often seen massive lines stretching out the door.
Thankfully, they now use a virtual waitlist that you can join via a QR code once you arrive. But here is a little insider tip for you: you can actually join that exact same waitlist directly on their website before you even arrive. I usually put my name down about 20 minutes before I get there, which saves me from standing around on the sidewalk!

Another one of my absolute favorite places for coffee and breakfast is KaZik Amsterdam. It’s a bit niche and definitely not your typical, cookie-cutter breakfast cafe, but that’s exactly why I love it, it is just a little different.
It’s a super cute and cozy Polish cafe, and during my last trip, it happened to be pretty close to my hotel. Because of that, it quickly became my absolute go-to spot every single morning to grab a coffee.
But of course, I couldn’t just stop at coffee; I had to try some of their food too. While they had an amazing display of homemade cakes, I fancied something way more savory that morning, so I went straight for their pierogi.
Since I grew up in Germany, I’m already familiar with what they are, but if you’ve never had them before, pierogi are traditional Polish dumplings. They are often filled with things like sauerkraut or potato, and they come served with a delicious yogurt sauce.
I’ll admit, it was definitely a bit rogue of me to have heavy Polish dumplings for breakfast, but honestly who cares?! They were super yummy and the perfect fuel for the day.

3. The Greasy Spoon
Opening Hours: 9am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★
Menu & Location
I know that a fry-up, also known as a Full English breakfast, is probably one of the most controversial morning meals out there. I also know for a fact that my American friends are usually not the biggest fans of beans and tomatoes for breakfast, but personally? I absolutely love it.
When I was younger, I used to take tons of trips to London just because it’s such a cool city, so naturally, I ended up falling in love with a proper Full English while I was there.
In all honesty though, there won’t be any fry-up in Amsterdam that comes exactly close to the ones you get in England. Let me just put that out there right away. However, the absolute closest I have ever found in the city was right here at The Greasy Spoon.
I’m pretty sure the owner is actually from the UK, which explains a lot. Their sausages and black pudding were both really really good. Apparently, their vegan options are also supposed to be incredible, though I haven’t tried those out myself.

4. Florentin Brunch
Opening Hours: 9am-4pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Location
I feel like whenever I travel to a new city and start researching the best spots for coffee and brunch, there is always that one place that pretty much everyone knows about. It gets more and more popular, creates a snowball effect, and then becomes the undisputed hot spot in town. For Amsterdam, that place is definitely Florentin Brunch.
I’ve only been here once so far, but I for sure understand the hype. The restaurant itself is really cool, they have loads of outdoor seating, and the food is just so so yummy and for sure some of the best breakfast food I’ve had in Amsterdam.
When I went there, I ordered the “Colombian Breakfast,” which came with sausage and traditional arepas. Since I’ve actually traveled to Colombia before, I was so surprised to see that on the menu, and it absolutely hit the spot and tasted as good as I know them from Colombia.
The only big downside is that it gets crazy busy here. If you show up on a Saturday or Sunday morning, you should definitely expect a massive line.

5. Coffee Bru
Opening Hours: 9am-5pm
Price: $$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
I feel like a lot of the places I’ve mentioned above are all full-on brunch restaurants, like sit-down, have a big meal type of situations. So I figured it’s time to add some actual cafes. Somewhere where I would come to just have a coffee and a slice of banana bread, like a little coffee date type of vibe, you know?
One of my favorite places for that is Coffee Bru, which is located in my favorite neighborhood in Amsterdam: De Pijp.
It’s kind of a hipster area with loads of cafes, and while it’s still pretty busy, it for sure feels way cooler than the more touristy city center.
I think if I ever moved to Amsterdam, then this is 100% where I’d want to live. Anyways, Coffee Bru is a cute little cafe. I’ve gotten takeaway coffees here multiple times and it’s always fantastic. I also really like that it’s a little further from the city center, so it usually feels a little less touristy around here.

6. Friedhats FUKU Cafe
Opening Hours: 9am-5pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★★
Menu & Location
Another amazing cafe in Amsterdam is Friedhats FUKU Cafe. To be honest, I would have never found this place myself, but I guess that’s one of the perks of having friends who actually live in Amsterdam, they show me all the cool, hidden spots in the city!
I went here last summer when I was visiting friends, and if I’m being completely honest, this was the absolute best coffee I’ve had in Amsterdam, full stop. It’s a really, really cute little place. We just stopped by for a little bit, got a coffee to go, and went straight over to Westerpark to sit on the grass and enjoy nature. I highly, highly recommend doing that!

7. Hummingbird Coffee Amsterdam
Opening Hours: 9am-5:30pm
Price: $$$
My Rating: ★★★★
Menu & Location
A lot of the cafes on this list are not in the city center of Amsterdam, so they aren’t in the area with all the iconic, cute canals. I feel like that’s pretty common, the really good food and the really good coffee are often where the tourists aren’t.
However, I wanted to include at least one cafe that’s more central and easier for you to get to, and that’s Hummingbird Coffee Amsterdam.
I actually haven’t been here myself yet, but I have heard great, great things about it. It’s in a perfect location and super easy to walk to if you are already staying fairly central in Amsterdam. You should definitely check it out and let me know how it is! The coffee in their pictures at least looks really, really good.
