The Best Time to Visit Ojai California: My Seasonal Guide in 2026
One of the cutest little towns I visited in California this past summer was definitely Ojai. We spent a whole weekend here, and we really treated ourselves a little bit with good food, a great hotel, and just an overall relaxing few days.
We visited in July, and I was actually really happy with that. I love the warm, dry California summers, and to me, that’s pretty much perfect weather. It makes me want to be outside all day, whether that means wandering around town, sitting on a patio with a coffee, or getting out for a hike.
Of course, Ojai can be a pretty different experience depending on when you visit. So, to give you a better idea of what to expect throughout the year, I’ve put together this guide on the best time to visit Ojai, including the different seasons, the weather, and some of the events you might want to plan your trip around.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Ojai California? My Quick Answer
I visited Ojai as part of our month-long California road trip, which we did during the summer, so I didn’t really have much wiggle room when it came to choosing the time of year. Summer it was!
And apparently, summer is actually considered one of the less ideal times to visit Ojai because the town sits in a valley and temperatures can get really hot.
But honestly? I had a fantastic time.
Pretty much every day, we were wandering around downtown, hiking, exploring and sitting outside, and the temperatures were totally manageable. Maybe I just got lucky, but so far, I really don’t understand all the hate for summer in Ojai.
Sure, it got pretty hot around midday, but the mornings and evenings were really nice. Sitting outside at a cafe or on a porch with a cup of coffee while everything was still quiet was one of my favorite parts of being here.
I also unfortunately missed some of the events I would’ve loved to experience, including the Ojai Lavender Festival and the Ojai Wine Festival, but honestly, that just gives me another excuse to come back.
While I personally had a great experience visiting in summer, if you want to play it a little safer with the temperatures, I’d probably recommend spring or fall. That’s when you’ll generally get milder temperatures without having to deal with the worst of the summer heat.

Quick Season Guide
Spring
Spring is a really nice time to visit Ojai, especially if you’re planning on spending a lot of time outdoors. Temperatures are generally around the 80s to 90s°F (27–32°C), which makes it much more comfortable for hiking and exploring than the hotter parts of summer.
And if you’re a big hiker, I’d definitely consider coming in spring. I got a pretty good sweat going when we were hiking around Ojai in summer, so having slightly cooler temperatures would’ve been nice.
Spring is also when you’ll have a chance to see wildflowers, which makes the already beautiful hiking trails around Ojai even prettier.
And then there’s Pixie Month, when the famous local Pixie tangerines are in season. You’ll find them popping up on menus at local restaurants and cafes, which is another fun little reason to visit during spring.
Summer
This is when we visited, and apparently temperatures in Ojai can easily reach the 90s°F (32–37°C) and sometimes even go above 100°F (38°C) during the summer.
That wasn’t really the case for us, luckily. We still had some pretty mild temperatures and were able to spend plenty of time outside without feeling completely destroyed by the heat.
Summer is also a pretty great time to take advantage of your hotel pool, so if you’re visiting during this time of year, I’d definitely look for a hotel with a nice pool area. You might end up spending more time there than you think!
And if you want to plan your trip around an event, summer is also when you’ll find the Ojai Wine Festival and the Ojai Lavender Festival, both of which I unfortunately missed.
Fall
Fall is pretty similar to spring in terms of temperatures, with daytime highs often in the 80s and 90s°F (27–32°C).
I think this could be a really nice time to visit because Ojai starts to slow down a little bit, while you still get plenty of warm weather for sitting outside, hiking and exploring.
It’s also harvest season, which makes fall a particularly good time for olive oil tastings and wine tastings around the area.
So if you’re less interested in spending all day by the pool and more interested in eating, drinking and exploring the surrounding countryside, fall sounds pretty damn good to me.
Winter
Winter in Ojai can still be a really nice time to visit, depending on what you’re looking for. Temperatures are generally around the 60s°F (16–18°C) during the day, so by most standards, that’s still a pretty mild winter.
Of course, the evenings can get quite a bit colder, but I think that can be part of the charm.
Instead of sitting by the pool, winter is more about cozying up by a fireplace, drinking wine, enjoying a nice dinner, or even checking out the hot springs around Ojai.
So while I’d personally choose spring, summer or fall for a trip where I want to spend most of my time outside, I definitely wouldn’t rule out winter if you’re looking for a quieter and cozier little getaway.

Best Time in Ojai for Hiking
If you’re really into hiking, I personally think spring is probably the best time to visit Ojai. The main reason is obviously the temperatures. Summer can get pretty damn hot here, and I definitely worked up a good sweat when we were hiking around Ojai in July.
Spring gives you some much more manageable temperatures, so you can actually spend a few hours out on the trails without feeling like you’re slowly cooking in the California sun.
And there’s another big bonus: wildflowers. Spring is when everything around the valley starts blooming, so the already beautiful hiking trails can get even prettier.
Best Time to Visit Ojai for a Spa Weekend
For me, fall and winter would be the perfect time for a little spa weekend in Ojai.
I personally always prefer doing a spa getaway when it isn’t ridiculously hot outside because that means I can actually enjoy the sauna, hot tub and all the other cozy spa stuff without immediately wanting to jump into an ice bath afterward.
And if you want to go all out, Ojai Valley Inn has by far one of the most impressive spas in the area. You can obviously stay at the resort itself, but they also offer spa experiences for visitors, so you don’t necessarily have to book a full stay there to enjoy the spa.

Events in Ojai California
Ojai Lavender Festival
One event I really wish I could’ve visited while I was in Ojai is the Ojai Lavender Festival.
As you might have guessed, the entire event is basically a celebration of lavender, with local vendors selling everything from fresh lavender and plants to soaps, essential oils and other lavender products. There’s also food, drinks, live music and plenty of other little things to walk around and check out.
The festival takes place right in the heart of downtown at Libbey Park.
And if you’re planning a trip for 2027, the current listing has the festival scheduled for June 19, 2027, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Definitely check the official event information before booking your trip, though, because dates and details can always change.
Ojai Wine Festival
As much as I love lavender, this one is much more up my alley.
The Ojai Wine Festival is something I also would’ve absolutely loved to experience. I’ve been to countless wineries and vineyards around Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and the surrounding Central Coast, so obviously a whole wine festival in Ojai sounds pretty damn good to me.
The festival takes place at Lake Casitas, where you’ll find loads of wineries, breweries and other drinks to taste, along with food vendors, live music and a bunch of other stuff going on throughout the day.
And here’s something important for 2027: the current official listings have the Ojai Wine Festival scheduled for June 19, 2027, which is the same day as the Lavender Festival.
So if those dates stay the same, June 19 could actually be a pretty crazy day to visit Ojai. You’d have two major events happening at the same time.
Either way, if you’re planning a trip around these festivals, book your hotel early. I’d expect that weekend to be a lot busier than a normal weekend in Ojai.
Pixie Month in Ojai
Ojai is famous for its little Pixie tangerines, which are tiny, seedless and super sweet, and every April the town celebrates them with Pixie Month.
During the month, you’ll find Pixies showing up all over town in local cafes, restaurants and bars. They get used in food, desserts, cocktails and all kinds of other little creations, and there are also special events and promotions happening around town.
The Pixie harvest itself generally runs from around March through May, but April is the big celebration. So if you’re a foodie and want to experience a very specific little part of Ojai culture, this could be a really fun time to visit.

FAQs About When Should I Visit Ojai California
Is Ojai Worth Visiting?
Yes, for sure! I loved how relaxing and quiet Ojai felt, and I think it’s especially nice if you’re looking for a little spa or wellness weekend.
That being said, I think a weekend, one night, or even just a day trip can all work really well here depending on what you want to do.
What Is There to Do in Ojai?
There’s quite a bit of hiking around Ojai, as well as horseback riding, farmers’ markets, wine tastings and spas.
But thinking back on my time here, I don’t really think of Ojai as a place where you come to pack your itinerary with activities. To me, it’s much more of a wholesome, relaxing weekend destination where you can eat good food, explore the town and just slow down a little.
What Is the Best Time of Year to Visit Ojai?
I’d say spring and fall are probably the best all-around times to visit Ojai, mainly because the temperatures are more comfortable for hiking and other outdoor activities.
Summer can get seriously hot, especially around midday, while winter is cooler and can be rainy at times.
That said, I visited in July and had a fantastic time, so I definitely wouldn’t rule out summer if that’s when your trip happens to fall.
Is Ojai Expensive to Visit?
It can be, but it definitely doesn’t have to be.
There are some awesome high-end luxury resorts here, including the Ojai Valley Inn, which looks absolutely gorgeous and is somewhere I would’ve loved to stay.
We stayed at the Emerald Iguana Inn instead, which was much more affordable and still gave us a really cool boutique-hotel experience.
Final Thoughts on When to Visit Ojai
At the end of the day, I really don’t think there’s a wrong time to visit Ojai. It just depends on what kind of trip you want.
Pretty much everyone on the internet told me not to go in summer because it would be way too hot, but I went in July and honestly thought the weather was great. Sure, spring and fall will generally give you milder temperatures and better conditions for hiking, but that doesn’t mean summer is a bad choice.
And then winter has its own appeal too. If you’re not coming here to hike all day, you could easily turn it into a cozy little spa weekend with saunas, massages, hot tubs, good food and a nice hotel.
I hope this guide on the best time to visit Ojai California gave you a better idea of what the different seasons are like and helped you figure out when you’d most enjoy visiting.
