How Many Days in Granada Spain Do You Really Need? My Honest Opinion in 2026
Granada is one of the many places that I visited on my recent road trip through Spain this summer, and I really hope that it is already on your itinerary for your next Euro summer.
Granada is definitely up there with being one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. It’s located in the south of Spain in Andalusia, which used to be ruled by the Moors back in the day. Because of that history, Granada now has some of the most beautiful Moorish architecture, with the Alhambra, the huge fortress looking over the city, definitely being the main highlight here.
Today in this quick little guide, I want to talk about how many days in Granada Spain I actually needed, and what I think makes the most sense in terms of time for you guys visiting, just to make planning your own itinerary a little easier.

How Many Days in Granada Spain Do You Need – My Quick Answer
To give you guys my very quick answer to this: I’d say that two full days in Granada are probably perfect.
I’m saying that keeping in mind that you are probably visiting other places on your trip too. If you are also going to Madrid and Seville, for instance, then I’d probably spend more time in Seville and only two days in Granada. But of course, you can always spend more time here if you really want to.
I personally spent three full days in Granada, which I really enjoyed because it gave me the time to actually explore neighborhoods like the Albaicín and check out some cool shops and restaurants. But if you are mainly here for the famous landmarks like the Alhambra, the Granada Cathedral, and the historic center, then I think two full days is more than enough.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Granada. But again, I just want to emphasize that if I had to pick, I would choose to spend more time in Seville, Madrid, Córdoba, or even Malaga, just because I felt like there was a bit more to do and more to discover in those cities.

1 Day in Granada Spain (Day Trip)
Highlights for a day trip to Granada:
- Historic Center of Granada
- Alcaicería (Moorish bazaar)
- The Alhambra
- Tapas Restaurant
Even though I spent a full three days in Granada, my family who I was with at the time only came here for a day trip with us. Honestly, for them, it was perfect and everyone was very happy with the amount of time they spent in the city. Because of that, I’m a huge fan of doing a day trip to Granada if you are on a shorter timeframe.
On that day, we pretty much focused on only two or three major things. We started in the historic old town and just wandered around. We had a lovely breakfast and then explored the Alcaicería, which is the historic Moorish market in Granada. Today, they pretty much mainly sell tourist souvenirs, but I think it looks very pretty with its narrow streets and shops, so I definitely thought it was worth the visit.
Afterwards, we headed to the Alhambra, walking there straight from the historic center. We absolutely loved the overall experience. We took a guided tour where we learned so much, and I highly recommend doing that.
Otherwise, you don’t really learn much about it since there isn’t a ton of information given on the signs. The whole Alhambra visit, including walking there, getting through security, and the tour itself, probably took us at least 3 to 4 hours. It kind of took up most of our day, but it’s also the biggest highlight in Granada, so again, it was well worth it in our opinion.
Afterwards, we just headed to a popular tapas restaurant called Los Diamantes, and that pretty much was the end of the day already. A day trip here really is mainly about the Alhambra. And just a little important tip here: make sure to buy your tickets for the Alhambra months and months in advance. Basically, as soon as you book your hotels, get those tickets too!

2 Days in Granada Spain (Alhambra + Old Town)
Highlights for two days in Granada, Spain:
- Historic Center of Granada
- Alcaicería (Moorish bazaar)
- The Alhambra
- Tapas Restaurant
- Granada Cathedral
- Albaicín Area and Mirador de San Nicolás
- Flamenco Show in Sacromonte
Ok, so we have already established what we would do with one day in Granada, but let me quickly recap it. I would totally explore the Granada historic center and the Alcaicería Moorish bazaar in the morning, then visit the Alhambra during the day, and finish it off with some amazing free tapas in one of the incredible Granada tapas bars. Yes, by the way, Granada has the best tapas scene in all of Spain.
With my second day in Granada, I’m definitely doing some things that are still super popular and touristy, but they feel a little less busy. And that is heading to some of the coolest neighborhoods in Granada: the Albaicín and Sacromonte.
The Albaicín is pretty much right next to the Alhambra, and it’s a really cool neighborhood with small alleys, whitewashed houses, and loads of cool bars and shops. It always reminds me of Córdoba, which I highly recommend you visit too, make sure to check out my guides on Córdoba!
And then afterwards, we did this because Carae really wanted to, we went to a flamenco show in Sacromonte. In that area, loads of people historically sought refuge in the caves there, and nowadays, all those caves are transformed into underground flamenco bars. I was very hesitant at the beginning, but I was super happy we went. It was a very fun and unique experience with loads of wine and beer!

3 Days in Granada Spain (Explore Local Spots)
Highlights for 3 days in Granada, Spain:
- Historic Center of Granada
- Alcaicería (Moorish bazaar)
- The Alhambra
- Tapas Restaurant
- Granada Cathedral
- Albaicín Area and Mirador de San Nicolás
- Flamenco Show in Sacromonte
- Hammam (Arab Bath)
- Local Tapas Restaurants
With three full days, again, I would do exactly what I had mapped out for my two days. Explore the old town, obviously go to the Alhambra (which also includes the Generalife and the Nasrid Palaces), and then for sure check out Albaicín and a flamenco show in Sacromonte, which kind of was my secret little highlight next to the Alhambra, to be honest.
So this is pretty much what I did with my third day, and as you can already tell, I’m not adding too much to this list just because I don’t think a third day is necessarily needed here. Instead, I just explored a lot on foot, did a lot of shopping, and tried a lot, lot of food.
There is a cute little cafe I went to in the morning called La Finca Coffee, and I went to another amazing tapas spot called Bodegas Castañeda where we had literally so much food and such good cheeses and tapas, it was incredible.
Then in the evening, we did something that I really enjoyed doing while I was in Spain, and that’s a hammam. I had done one before years and years ago when I visited Turkey and never since, so I was super excited to do it here.
It’s basically an Arabic spa/bath/body scrub, and it’s super cool and very popular here again due to the Moorish history. We of course went to Hammam Al Ándalus, which is the most popular here, but the bath is so beautiful with Moorish architecture all over and heated pools, it’s just an amazing place to be.
We bought our tickets like 2 weeks or so in advance. I don’t know if that was actually needed though, but I highly advise checking early on!

FAQs About Granada How Many Days Do I Need
Is Granada Spain worth visiting?
Absolutely. Granada is 100% worth visiting, and I will always make sure it is on my itinerary. Even though I think cities like Seville or Madrid are better overall, the Alhambra is so impressive that it is enough reason to visit Granada on its own, even if it is just for a day trip.
How do I get to Granada Spain?
I personally had a rental car and drove there, which was super easy since Spain’s roads are great. But the public transport is also amazing, so you can easily take a train to Granada from Seville, Madrid, or Malaga. I like booking my tickets on Omio, which is the best site for that.
What is the best cafe in Granada Spain?
I had a lot of good coffee and pastries in Granada, but my favorite was La Finca Coffee. It’s a super cool specialty coffee shop right in the historic center, and they made a great latte and flat white.
Where should I get tapas in Granada?
There is always a big debate about which spots are good and which aren’t, but from a visitor’s point of view, I think Los Diamantes and Bodegas Castañeda are the two best places to go.
What is the best place to stay in Granada?
I obviously haven’t tried every single hotel in Granada, but when I was there, I stayed at Las Amiras Home. It is a really cool boutique hotel that is modern but still has a lot of Spanish details and charm. I 100% recommend staying there, you should check it out.
Is 2 days enough for Granada?
Yes, 2 days in Granada is enough. In fact, I actually think it is the perfect amount of time. Only one day feels a little too rushed. On the other hand, I spent three full days in Granada, and to be honest, I thought that was a little too much. So yes, 2 days is perfect.
Final Thoughts on Visiting Granada Spain
To wrap this up quickly, based on my own experience, I recommend visiting Granada for two full days. You can either book 3 nights at a hotel, or just do 2 nights and make sure you arrive really early on your first day.
That will give you more than enough time to see all the famous landmarks, like the Alhambra and the Granada Cathedral.
A day trip can work as well, especially if you have a rental car and are doing a larger road trip through Andalusia. But if you are trying to map out a standard 10 to 14-day trip to Spain, allocating exactly 2 full days to Granada is the sweet spot.
I stayed for three full days and didn’t really need that last day. It was nice to have the extra time to relax since I am traveling long-term, but for a shorter vacation, save that extra day for somewhere else!
