Is Setenil de las Bodegas Worth Visiting – My Quick Answer

It’s actually really hard for me to give a straight answer here because I’m personally a bit on the fence about Setenil de las Bodegas. I’m not entirely sure if I actually liked it or not, but if I had to choose, I would say YES, it is worth visiting, however, that comes with a few big “ifs.”

Don’t get me wrong: Setenil is beautiful and super unique. We don’t even need to argue about how cool the whitewashed houses look built straight into the cliffs. It’s an architectural wonder. However, due to overtourism, it has definitely turned into a bit of a and I don’t want to say “tourist trap,” but it felt a little like one when I’m being fully honest.

The main street in town was packed with mediocre restaurants selling overpriced fried food, and there were just loads of day-trippers wandering around, which made it hard to really feel the “village” vibe.

I think the timing of my visit was the big issue for me. I arrived in the afternoon right when all the day tours from the coast were at their peak, so I didn’t have the best experience.

One of the obvious things I personally love about Setenil de las Bodegas is, of course, its unique design. I could have literally walked around for hours just staring at the buildings built into the cliffside. The coolest part is when you step inside some of the restaurants or shops, you’ll see the actual raw cliff face forming the back or side wall of the house. It’s unlike anything else I’ve seen in Spain!

2. Super Walkable and Easy to Explore

I’m a big fan of any walkable city or town, and Setenil is exactly that. Yes, it’s fairly small, but it’s very easy to navigate on foot. We parked our car and only had to walk about 10 minutes to reach the heart of the city center. If you happen to arrive by tour bus, there is even a little “tourist train” that shuttles people from the car park directly into the town center.

3. Very Accessible with Free Parking

3. Don’t Plan to Eat Here
