Out of all the small villages located between Seville, Granada, and Malaga, Ronda is probably my favorite one I have visited. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a trip to Andalusia, it is definitely worth it.

Ronda has some of the most beautiful architecture I’ve seen, along with amazing food, incredible views, and surprisingly cool things to do. I enjoyed it so much that after I left, I actually wished I’d had more time there.

Today, I want to talk about one of the most important parts of planning your trip: where to stay in Ronda Spain.

Where to Stay in Ronda Spain: My Quick Answer

The short answer is that, in terms of location, it doesn’t matter that much because Ronda is fairly small and walkable for the most part. The town basically consists of the Old Town (La Ciudad) south of the bridge and the New Town (El Mercadillo) to the north.

My best advice is to stay as close to Puente Nuevo as possible. That’s where I spent most of my time, it’s where many of the best restaurants are, and it’s where most of the main sights are located. I’ll be honest, though, it’s also the busiest area, but for a short trip, it’s definitely the most convenient.

When it comes to hotels, there are some incredibly beautiful properties in Ronda, but in my opinion, Catalonia Ronda is the best hotel in town and my personal number one recommendation.

I absolutely love it when a hotel actually matches the vibe of the place I’m in. There is nothing I hate more than being in a beautiful, traditional European town only for my hotel to look like a modern concrete bunker or a spaceship. I want my hotel to look like a typical Spanish property but still have nice, modern amenities and Catalonia Ronda nails that.

If you are looking for full-on Spanish vibes, this hotel definitely has them, from the wrought-iron balconies to the classic Andalusian styling.

But the real highlight, which I haven’t even mentioned yet, is the rooftop! They have an infinity pool that overlooks the hills of the countryside and lets you look straight down into Ronda’s famous Plaza de Toros (the bullring). I mean, come on, what else could you possibly want?

My Tips for Staying in Ronda Spain

1. There is FREE Parking in Ronda Spain

If you are planning on staying the night in Ronda, I would definitely contact your hotel first about parking options, as spots in the city can be very limited. There is Parking La Merced right in the city center, which is a convenient paid garage, but there is also Parking Público Gratuito just outside the old town. It’s completely free and has plenty of space; that’s where I parked my car for the day and I had no issues at all.

2. Avoid the Tourist Crowds

One of the huge perks of staying the night in Ronda is being able to avoid the heavy tourist crowds. The day-trippers usually start arriving around 10:00 am, and from then on, the main spots get pretty busy (I know, I was one of them, so I can’t really blame anyone!).

However, if you’re staying in town, I highly recommend getting up early to explore. Seeing the bridge and the quiet streets before the masses arrive makes a huge difference in how you experience the vibe of the city.

3. Staying a Night is Better Than a Day Trip

Ronda is definitely worth spending more time than just a day trip in and if I could go back, I’d book a night just to have more time to explore, eat more good food, and drink more local wine without feeling rushed to get back.

4. Head to the Bottom of Puente Nuevo, It’s Worth It!

Many people don’t actually make it down to the base of the bridge, which honestly baffles me!

When you’re in Ronda, make sure to head down to the Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo. It’s a newer walkway that takes you right into the gorge. It costs €5 for the entrance (and they give you a helmet for safety!), but the views from the bottom looking up at the bridge are absolutely amazing.

5. Learn a Little Spanish

Over the months I’ve spent in Spain, I’ve realized that the Spanish are very proud people. The best way to show respect is to give it your best effort when speaking Spanish. Even if the conversation eventually turns to English, I’ve found that most locals really appreciate the effort I put in just by trying a few phrases!

Best Areas & Hotels in Ronda Spain

1. Old Town – La Ciudad

The Old Town of Ronda, also called La Ciudad, is probably my favorite part of the city for so many reasons. The number one reason is that it is much quieter than the other districts, while still being incredibly beautiful.

I spent a lot of time wandering through the small cobblestone streets and back alleys here, and for the most part, you can escape the large tourist crowds, which I really enjoyed. My favorite spot in this area was Plaza Duquesa, it’s a small park with a few little bars and restaurants, and on a sunny day, sitting out there is actually amazing.

I also loved that Martina Speciality Coffee is right in this area. I’d 100% recommend heading there in the morning to grab your flat white before you start exploring. If you want a more relaxed, authentic experience, I’d definitely suggest staying here over the newer parts of Ronda.

Hotel Palacio de Hemingway

Hotel Palacio de Hemingway is one of my favorite hotels in Ronda. It’s fairly affordable and the location is unbeatable, it’s literally just a one-minute walk away from the famous Puente Nuevo.

One thing I love is when a hotel matches the vibe of the destination, and this place does that perfectly. It’s located in the former home of poet Pedro Pérez Clotet and feels like an upscale hotel from hundreds of years ago.

Of course, it’s been fully renovated, but it still has all that historic charm and and very traditional vibe. Also, they offer a great à la carte breakfast which is always a bonus in my opinion.

Hotel Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel

If you’re looking for a fantastic budget-friendly option, this is it. Hotel Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel reminds me a lot of the Palacio de Hemingway but it’s like a more budget-conscious version that still feels very upscale and traditional.

It’s in a similar, super-central location close to the bridge and is actually built into a 1730s Andalusian mansion. I know how expensive hotels in Spain can get, so if you are traveling with a tighter budget but still want that classic Spanish design and architecture, this is definitely the one I’d consider.

2. New Town – El Mercadillo

The New Town, also known as El Mercadillo, is the area north of the bridge. It is just as gorgeous as the Old Town and technically makes up the heart of the city center.

Everything here was super walkable for me, so as I mentioned before, the exact location doesn’t matter that much. My best advice is to just pick a hotel you genuinely love, it’ll almost certainly be within walking distance of all the sights, restaurants, and activities.

I loved this part of Ronda just as much as the Old Town. This is where you’ll find the famous bullring as well as most of the shops and restaurants. Even though I personally loved the quiet vibe of the Old Town, I’d consider this the true “center” because there’s just more going on.

I would totally stay here myself, yes, it’s a little busier, but in my opinion, this is where the better hotels are located. And since I personally love a good hotel, this is probably where I’d recommend booking your stay!

Catalonia Ronda

I mentioned Catalonia Ronda briefly earlier because, from what I’ve seen, it’s hands-down the best hotel in all of Ronda.

I love it when a hotel matches the vibe of the city or country. I want my hotel to look traditionally Spanish, and this one really nails it. Even though it has a more classic look, the inside is completely modern with spacious rooms, and the location is perfect right in the city center.

The absolute highlight, and the reason I want to book this hotel right now, is the rooftop pool. It literally overlooks the Ronda bullring, which is so cool and unique. If i was going on a trip to Ronda this sumer then this is 100% the hotel that I will be booking.

Catalonia Reina Victoria

Another amazing property a little further out from the busy city center is Catalonia Reina Victoria.

This is a beautiful old estate located right on top of the cliffs, so it has incredible views over the hill country and the surroundings of Ronda. It feels a bit more like a grand manor, and of course, it has an amazing pool and restaurant on-site.

I would stay here myself if I was looking for something a little quieter and more secluded while still being close to the action.

3.Outside of Ronda

Ronda actually has some of the most beautiful countryside I’ve ever seen. I spent days driving through the hills with olive groves to my left and right and it was stunning and a total highlight of my trip.

There are loads of wineries scattered all around (I highly recommend checking out La Melonera!), and staying just a 20-minute drive outside the city is a fantastic option.

First off, it’s often cheaper than staying right in the center. Also, you get access to these incredible finca-style hotels and rental houses that make road-tripping through Andalusia so much easier.

This is basically what my family and I did, we used a base outside the city and just drove into Ronda for the day. It’s a much more relaxed way to see the area.

It really comes down to your vibe though, are you a city hotel person who likes to wander straight from the lobby, or would you rather have a house in the middle of nature with a stunning pool? Honestly, I like both depending on my mood!

Arriadh Hotel

Arriadh Hotel would be my personal top pick for staying on the outskirts of Ronda. I always tell people that if you rent a car, staying outside the city center can be so much better. At Arriadh, you get a beautifully renovated modern finca with a pool and rooftop terrace views over the countryside. It is just gorgeous, and you get all that for about half the price of a similar style hotel room in the city center.

Hotel Finca Los Pilares de Ronda

This is a spot I found during my research, and I love how authentic and traditional it feels without being outdated. It’s a classic finca (a Spanish country-style house) with beautiful gardens, cozy rooms, and a great pool. It’s definitely the spot to go if you want to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the crowds.

This is somewhere I definitely would have stayed on my own road trip through Andalusia. I personally love staying outside the bigger hubs because of the value. These apartments are brand new and feature an incredible rooftop pool with amazing views. The apartments themselves are beautiful and modern, perfect if you want to cook for yourself and enjoy a slow breakfast at home before heading out to explore.

It depends a bit on your travel style, but in most cases, I’d suggest staying somewhere in the city center to be close to the action. Catalonia Ronda is absolutely beautiful if you want to be in the heart of it all. However, if you’re looking for something more relaxed and quiet, there are some amazing finca-style hotels in the countryside just outside of town.

Is Ronda cheap?

Yes, at least, I thought so! I remember only paying €2 for a coffee, and lunch was very affordable too. Hotels aren’t overly expensive compared to other Spanish hotspots, and since you can find free parking, it’s definitely one of the more budget-friendly tourist destinations in Andalusia.

All in all, Ronda is so compact that it almost doesn’t matter exactly which street you stay on. My best advice is to pick a hotel that you actually love, one with great reviews and the facilities you want, and try to get as close to the Puente Nuevo bridge as possible. That way, you’ll be able to walk pretty much everywhere in Ronda right from your front door.

Alternatively, if you’re road-tripping through Andalusia like I was, I can’t recommend the countryside enough.

Many people don’t realize that staying 15–20 minutes outside the city is often much cheaper and way more relaxed. You can enjoy the peace of a rural finca at night and just drive into the city center for the day. It’s a great way to save some money while having a much more tranquil experience!
