Setenil de las Bodegas is very well known because of how the white buildings and houses are built right into the side of the cliff. You’ve probably seen pictures of it before, it’s definitely one of the top photo spots for people visiting the region!

How to get to Setenil de Las Bodegas – My Quick Answer
To keep things quick and simple, your two best options basically are to rent a car and drive yourself or to join a guided bus tour from Malaga, for instance.
I personally drove to Setenil by car, and I would highly recommend this! We rented a car for multiple days and drove to Setenil as well as to Ronda, and it was just so much easier. That way, we weren’t on anyone else’s schedule; we were flexible to go wherever we wanted and do our own thing. Also, parking in Setenil is free, so overall it was just the easiest option in my eyes.
I recommend either staying in Ronda, which is a beautiful village, from there it’s only 20 minutes to Setenil de las Bodegas, or visiting from Malaga. From Malaga, it’s only about a 90-minute drive, which is also totally doable in my opinion.
Of course, if you are not comfortable driving in a foreign country or you just want to keep things simple and easy, a day tour with a guide also works perfectly well. On most day trips from Malaga, you will be visiting both Ronda and Setenil, which is amazing! I’ll make sure to link the best trips to book down below for you to check out.

Renting a Car for Setenil
We stayed in Malaga in a vacation rental with my family for over a week and had a rental car for the whole time.
We rented it from Wiber Car Rental at the airport in Malaga and were super happy with the whole experience! From Malaga, we drove up to Ronda and Setenil, and driving was super easy; the roads were in good condition and Google Maps always knew exactly where we had to go.
From Malaga, it took us about 90 minutes to get up to Setenil de las Bodegas, but if you are staying in Ronda, it will only take you about 20 minutes. If you are road-tripping around Andalusia, I would personally stay in Ronda for a couple of nights, I really loved that city, and then just take a day trip from there to Setenil.
One thing I do recommend is getting an eSIM so you have internet at all times for navigation while driving. I’m using Sim Local and I am super happy with them! You can sign up for Sim Local here and use my discount code GIRLONAZEBRA to save on your data!

Join a Guided Bus Tour to Setenil
I haven’t done this option myself, but I did some thorough research when we were planning our trip! I looked into loads of different tour options, and for the most part, they are all fairly similar. Usually, it’s a guided bus tour from Malaga that hits both Ronda and Setenil de las Bodegas in the same day.
The perks here are, of course, that you don’t have to worry about a single thing since you’re being driven around. But the best part in my opinion is that it comes with a guide to tell you all about the history and culture of these spots.
That was definitely one downside I experienced by visiting on my own, while it was a fun adventure, I didn’t really get any background info or history, which is definitely worth it here!
So, if you are already in Malaga and have a spare day, I would 100% do a day trip to Ronda and Setenil. It’s an easy way to see both without the stress of navigating. I’ll link a few great and affordable options down below for you to check out!

Parking in Setenil de las Bodegas
One thing I learned very quickly while road-tripping through Spain is that whenever I plan on driving into a city or town, it doesn’t matter what size, I always make sure I know exactly where I am going to park. Ideally, I look it up beforehand and have Google Maps navigate me directly to the lot. I’ve had one too many experiences driving around Spanish cities trying to find parking on my own, and it is such a nightmare!
Luckily, parking in Setenil de las Bodegas is actually very straightforward, and there are a few spots where it’s completely free.
When I visited, I parked right next to the town’s soccer pitch (Click here for location). There is plenty of free street parking there, and it’s only about a 5-minute walk into the center of town. Alternatively, you can park on the other side of Setenil near Calle San Sebastián, where there is also free street parking. Both work very well!
If you’re visiting in the summer, make sure to arrive early to beat the crowds though. Also, please be aware that the roads here can be very steep and narrow. I didn’t have an issue at all (we had the tiniest rental car, a little Fiat Panda!), but it’s definitely something to keep in mind so you don’t get caught off guard!

My Tips for Visiting Setenil de Las Bodegas
1. Arrive early to beat the crowds
I’ve mentioned it before, but I made the mistake of arriving in the afternoon at the same time as all the bus tours, which is why my experience was a little “meh.” That’s why I urge you to arrive here really early in the morning!
That way, you’re guaranteed a parking spot and you’ll have the streets to yourself to take those amazing pictures without a literal line behind you.
2. Don’t stay in Setenil, stay in Ronda instead
Setenil de las Bodegas doesn’t actually have that much to offer for a long stay, which is why I’m a big advocate of staying in nearby Ronda instead. Ronda is definitely my favorite village in the region! I’d suggest staying there for maybe two nights, and from there you can just rent a car and drive over to Setenil, it only takes 20 minutes.
3. There is free parking in Setenil
Getting here by car is super easy, whether it’s the 20-minute drive from Ronda or the 90-minute drive from Malaga. I always make sure to pick the parking lot I want in advance so I don’t get lost in those tiny, stressful alleyways. Luckily, there is plenty of free parking in Setenil; I’ll make sure to link the specific location here for you.
4. Get an eSIM
I love having an eSIM because it means I have internet at all times, which is a total non-negotiable for me, especially when I’m driving and need to navigate highways and foreign cities. Currently, I am using Sim Local and I am super happy with them! Sign up here and use my discount code GIRLONAZEBRA to save some cash!
5. Don’t eat at the touristy restaurants
I personally would not recommend eating at any of the restaurants on Calle Cuevas del Sol (the main street under the cliff). To be honest, it’s just not worth the money. The food is pretty mediocre and overpriced because of the location. Trust me, the food in Ronda is much better!
Final Thoughts on Driving to Setenil de Las Bodegas
All in all, getting to Setenil de las Bodegas is super easy. While I personally prefer driving myself; having a rental car is just fantastic for exploring the south of Spain, the hidden villages, and all those different beaches, it’s really something I recommend you do!
However, if you don’t have the time or just don’t want the stress of driving, joining a guided tour is also a great way to see it. This is especially true since, in most cases, you get to see both Ronda and Setenil de las Bodegas in the same day.
Also, you’ll have a guide to fill you in on the history, which was definitely the one thing I felt I was missing out on during my own trip.
I hope this little guide gave you a good idea of how to get to Setenil de las Bodegas and where you can find the best free parking while you’re there!
